The Whiskey Taster’s Flavor Guide

Gently On the Shoulder

I know some may
prefer the way
  of folks direct, up front

Some love panache
forthright and brash,
  outspoken as you want

Some may prefer
the crash and blur
  of histrionics bolder

But as for me
I'd rather be
  tapped gently on the shoulder

John, I've come across so many people in my working life who lack the skills of managing people. Another hands up for your idea as to how things should be handled correctly. I love your aab ccb rhyme scheme by the way. Cheers - Gary

Gary, thanks for your kind review. I readily admit I am a verbose guy (just check my comments, replies, and the bulk of my poems for evidence, lol). This was my attempt to break free from that and try to distill my personality and philosophy of social interaction down into 12 lines. I have attempted to live by the proverb "a kind answer turns away wrath" and am always grateful when I witness others living out that maxim. I expanded on that concept in my longer poem "Civil Discourse", but I feel a bit more satisfied by the brevity of this one. Thanks for the comment, my friend, and for reading my verbose reply! Cheers ~ John

Much more than loud greeting , a gentle tap on the shoulder is preferable. Best of luck in the contest, poet friend

Thank you Tom. I left you some comments at your blog. The person is also leaving rude comments at Bill's site! I complained to admin - we'll see if they do anything about it. I also sent you a soup mail. If I were that person I'd be looking over my shoulder for undertaker Tom and the Soup Creek posse!
