Best Rainier Poems
I have seen you flash by
Amidst thick green foliage and swaying pines
Like a distant silver dream
On receding skyline
But was never satisfied
For a close encounter I craved
I did then go up
The Space Needle in Seattle
Hoping to have a clear view
Of your snow-clad balding pate
That thought profound thoughts
Against mortal blues of the empty sky
But, alas, you remained
Elusive to sight
Hiding behind shifting clouds
Yesterday, I drove over a hundred miles
Climbed my way to Sunrise Point
Hoping for a close tete-a-tete
You played truant again
I saw a blank
Of nothingness, void
A grey screen of clouds and mist
As snow-flakes flew around
The board before me read
You were somewhere there
Amidst mighty peaks
Right before my unseeing eyes
Doesn't matter Rainier
You are there, I know for sure
Like the Himalayan peaks
I haven't seen
And yet am charmed by their beauty
On calendars, picture-cards
Inherent philosophy
Their height and grandeur speak
Better luck next time
Rainier, you are a teacher
I have now seen
Lofty nothingness, void
Against which I have all the peaks
Of the world that speak
Of Truth that belongs not to things
But to an evanescent dream
That the Lord, whoever He is
Conjures up for stupid minds

Majestically they've stood since time had its start
rising on a cartographer's global elevational chart
Mountain ranges, wondrous works of God's creation
that eyes have beheld for centuries with fasination
Come along with me on this adventure as my ally
to the towering mountains as they reach for the sky
Let's honor them in our traveling journal of rhyme
penning of their beauty after the challenge of a climb
We'll walk along the Great Smoky ridges of misty blue
much closer to where clouds leave their traces of dew
On to the Catskills, and Appalachians in the Northeast
The States have many ranges, a mountain lover's feast!
We'll journey West to the Rockies to visit Pike's Peak
marveling at the views that tourists call its 'mystique'
We can take the Cog Railway to the top, hike it or drive
Isn't it wonderful that mountains make us feel so alive?
The Northwest's Cascades allow us to climb up three
from their crests, The Pacific Ocean we'll be able to see
Mt. St. Helens, Shasta, and the picturesque, Rainier
For you and I, my faithful ally, will have nothing to fear
Now we'll fly across that ocean to the island of Hawaii
Trek through rain forests and shade of a banyon tree
To the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa we'll go
Then leave volcanic shores in search of mounts of snow
Our destination-Mt. Fuji on the Japanese island of Honshu
We'll reach its grand summit, if it's the last thing we do
Success will be ours, then press on to the highest of all
Mount Everest stands at almost thirty thousand feet tall
The Himalayans are a challenge many climbers have taken
Our adventure'd be incomplete if this one we had forsaken
Travel time is growing short so we must again move on
Up the slopes of Olympus, Vesuvius, and the Matterhorn
To mountain tops we have missed, I'll soon be traveling
and catch a glimpse of those views that are simply dazzling
You're welcome to join me again, as my ally in the clouds
where we'll find complete serenity, away from noisy crowds

Goodbye little rain, rest your soul in peace.
Your memories will remain in our hearts,
Lay down little munchkin in cotton candies.
The echoes of your laugh left in the corner of our house.
You'll be our forever baby, our little brave warrior.
time has come for you to leave,
Take away all our pain and sorrows.
Bring with you our hugs and kisses,
A cuddle of love and kindness,
The spirit of unconditional love.
Goodbye, little Rain,I sing you a lullaby.
To keep you quietly sleeping until the morning comes.
Until we embrace tomorrow in a promised paradise,
Where no more tears, pain and sickness.
Only joyful hopes and happiness arise.
#In loving memory of my nephew, Mark Rainier De Torres :)

The Mountain
Iconic
white peak floats
over the region from Seattle to
Tacoma. Seen easily on clear sunny
days, natures heavily glacially mantled
edifice inspires us to reach great heights, as
we stand in awe of this beautiful sleeping volcanic strato
giant that we have called Rainier, also known earlier as Tahoma.

In Philadelphia, in the year 1929,
an actress was born that had a career that was fine.
Grace Kelly, the daughter of Jack and Margaret Kelly,
came from quite a distinguished Irish Catholic family.
Her father was successful as a self-made millionaire;
her brother, an Olympian and town councilman there.
Grace’s uncle Walter Kelly was a vaudeville actor,
and Uncle George Kelly, a Pulitzer-winning writer.
Any film critic would tell you her acting was quite good.
She was one of the beautiful women in Hollywood.
Among her films were, “Fourteen Hours”, “High Noon”, and “Mogambo”,
and Alfred Hitchcock’s “Dial M for Murder” and “Rear Window”.
For “The Country Girl”, she won the Oscar for Best Actress.
In several other major films, Grace made great progress.
Included with “The Swan”, her other great pictures would be
“To Catch a Thief“, “Green Fire” and “The Bridges at Toko-Ri”
Her last film would be with Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby.
This was the Cole Porter musical “High Society”.
Later that year, Grace would marry Monaco’s Prince Rainier.
She retired from the screen and became a princess that day.
Grace had three children, Albert, Caroline, and Stephanie.
With her husband, she ruled the tiny principality.
Grace’s life ended abruptly when she was fifty-two.
Her life was like a storybook fairy tale dream come true.

Off all people i would most like to meet
At my Dinner Table, please take a seat
We could all choose Who - for various reasons
Just like nature, chose her seasons
A recent chap elected so
Its Obama man, go man go
Mr David Attenborough, the animals man
If they can do it, he can prove they can
Freddie Mercury, deceased singer of Queen
We could Bo Rap, if you know what i mean
Robin Islands, Awesome dude
He changed South Africa, with his wonderful good
This amazing guy, gets two more lines
Nelson Mandela is mighty fine
Grace Kelly of Monaco, of such beauty - Rainier knows
No longer with us, her spirit flows
Then there is me a Highland Lad
To the five above, my tables glad
Incredible in their own way
Two have gone, but there all here to stay
Presence, Legacy left behind
Indeed they are one of a kind.
To be so proud and able
To grace My Dinner Table.

Bowls 'n' bags 'n'
branches 'n' trees
Orchards 'n' lives 'n'
meanings and needs
Taste the sweet meat of
Prunus avium - Bing,
Sweetheart, Rainier, Tulare
the tart, the sweet
the redness - a treat
A bowl, a bag,
by hand-to-mouth
to suck - to chew
to rave - to espouse

Mount Baker seen from my window,
is framed in his garment of snow,
towering over his neighbors and
admired from the valley below.
His beauty can't be disputed,
the poets and artists concur.
His jealous sister is angry.
He's taking attention from her.
So proud of the fact she is taller
than all of her brothers save one,
resenting Rainier for his stature,
he's too near her loved god, the sun.
Mount Hood, Mount Adams and others
who make up the great Cascades Range,
have at one time or other ignored her.
She vows this contempt will soon change.
St. Helens could hold it no longer,
her deep seated, smoldering rage.
She vents it early one morning,
the anger she's held for an age.
The havoc she's wrought is tremendous.
She feels no regret and no shame.
She's striking a blow for sisterhood.
The world will remember her name.
She forfeits some of her beauty,
which passing of time will reclaim.
The others now bow to her fury.
She basks in her ill gotten fame.
Her brothers are slumbering giants.
Their power is yet to be seen.
They're holding their strength in abeyance,
giving Helens her reign as the queen.
We love them, unheeding the danger.
We daringly dwell at their feet,
knowing full well we're under the spell
of idols with dues swift and steep.
St. Helens has sounded a warning,
with some of us paying a price.
We stay, though aware of the perils,
encased in that beautiful ice.

Narrative
In the depths of Mt Rainier fire stirred,
The earth around trembled in dire anger,
As the fiery spirit Elf wandered
In the depths of the spouting volcano
Exuding thick feculent, fusty smells,
And from the volcano's top, exuded
Ash, smoke, flaming rocks and burning lava.
Dare a human female refuse Elf?
Not that he loved her as Indians love.
His fervid lust for her knew no limit.
His anger increased beyond all known bounds.
Rising to the top of the volcano,
Elf hurled fireballs, torching the forests,
So that poor humans flew towards a lake.
There they prayed to their good God to save them.
A large stone fell into the volcano
Burying Elf and his hateful fire.
A fearful blizzard formed and rain and snow
Filled the volcano until all was calm.
A large lake formed and a lovely island
Rose majestically from the waters:
A seventh wonder of Columbia.

Through the pines, stands your white lofty peak.
Blue sky and white clouds, art thou's for-seek.
Over the lake, your reflection is cast.
Like a shadow, from out of the past.
Smaller spires, raise skyward to seek....
The big white cloud, surrounding your peak.
What clearer picture, can we hope to see.
Just what happens, to nature's purest majesty.
Our life on earth, has many a scene.
But, none quite so great, none quite so keen.
Let's hope for peace, and let's hope it's, non-stop.
And let's hope that someday, you don't blow your top.

It is the crown jewel of the Pacific Northwest.
As a city, it stands out among the best.
The Space Needle points boldly towards the sky.
Blue skies and green hills are pleasant to the eye.
There are so many fascinating places to see.
The people living there are as friendly as they can be.
While Mt. Rainier stands as majestic as Olympus,
the gods and goddesses seem to smile upon us.
As a vacation spot, it is truly glorious.
I can just hear this city calling out to me.
One day, I will have to return and see.

No! not about pits
they’re removed
the fruit sliced.
ugly in effigy —
the air turns
their innards
burnt orange.
their rainier skin
scarred and pale —
tasty or not.
i’d rather them red
and plump, but
skinny enough
to fit into
the pitter
and for the pits
to shoot straight
out
not get stuck
like Winnie the Pooh
half in and out —
a honey of an incident,
embarrassing.
i gobble up
nature’s morsels
good for sleep
metabolism and
movements
which i
have a right
to let go.
Let’s not forget
the plastic covering
these incidentals
arrived in
and were shaken loose
from
into a collapsible colander
and given a sprinkling
shower; they shine
their famous; their mine

Light Verse
The good ship "Vision of the Seas" crossed the tidal rip,
And now glides majestically toward her mooring slip.
Seattle 'wakens from its slumber as I gaze across the bay.
A glow in the eastern sky heralds another glorious day!
Ferryboats ply their routes carrying drowsy folks to work.
Little boats scurry about as if they have gone berserk!
From my lofty perch I can see that the rush hour has begun.
The magnificent skyline of Seattle is aglow in the rising sun!
Mount Rainier shimmers from afar, the sun tinting its noble crown.
The Space Needle stands as a sentinel o'er the wakening town.
Playful dolphins dart to and fro guiding "Vision" to her quay.
The dawning o'er Seattle, no mere artist would dare portray!
I'm startled from my reverie by the shrill barking of a seal,
And the plaintive cries of gulls as overhead they wheel.
Sonorous blasts of the ship's horn will awaken the metropolis,
Perhaps even rattling those reposing in the local necropolis!
Tho' Seattle drowses, on the dock there is much ado.
There is no respite for the "Vision's" stalwart crew.
The sights and sounds of the Emerald City I will e'er remember,
As I recall a beautiful Seattle dawn one day in September!
