Best Pop Off Poems
Between conjecture and classification there is
observation, experiment, data (collection and analysis),
statistics, calculus, and a good guess
about God's intentions - probabilities, fractals, chaos and complexity.
This is the thunderous city.
The form of the poem, the rhyme.
Form cannot be first if you want to reach high artistic levels, since
you are then bound by form, and that form is very often a
betrayal of reality.
Yet I find I am attracted all the time
to philosophies in short skirts, jewels and eyes lined with kohl.
I love where her legs lead, to her very soul.
Three women hike by under an umbrella in a winter rain. Two men side
by side run in rhythm.
An oil truck takes the hill in low steady gear.
My old Marine, 89, died last night without anxiety or fear.
May I overcome my pain enough to reach the place where the deer lay
down their bones
and, like them, die alone.
When making an axe handle, the pattern is not far off.
The purpose of school is to introduce us to the world's innumerable
wonders.
The periodic table, World Wars I and II, Huckleberry Finn and Jim.
But soft,
what light through yonder window breaks?
It is a billion trillion nuclear detonations per second without which
nothing can be done or faked.
The temple bell stops, but the sound still comes out of the flowers.
Forests and the composite species will be nameless. Genetic prowess,
receiving the sacrament, performing Lohengrin from the Great American
Songbook,
the look of love in all the wrong places, facebook,
fakebooks, folios of old family photos on or in pianos.
When we took Pop-Pop off the ventilator,
we put him in a refrigerator.
He stopped eating, he stopped breathing. Circle with a dot.
He had his dream, he'd rowed his boat.
Organic computers using polymerase and qubits came later.
She went to a whole other
place today and guess what? I
took her there. She starts
screaming and yelling and
saying things out of character...
At this point I'm more confused
then I've ever been. Like what
happened to the sweetheart I
met 6 months ago???
Just bought a new car, she
keyed it. Flat screen tv, she
broke it. Some shoes I waited
in line for for 5 hours, she rips
the tongue off of them. The
bracelet I bought her, she
throws it at my head. This all
started because I wouldn't
watch her favorite romance
comedy. Like most men, I
should run like hell but you
know what??? I think it's
adorable. I mean it is my fault
she's like this. When she gave
up on love, I made her see
what she was giving up. When
she lost her first love, I helped
her find another one. When her
first time was horrible, I made
her last time amazing. I was
the one that gave her a cheesy
romance movie beginning.
Since she has never been
swept off her feet, I will be all
the broom she ever needs. So
to my psycho girlfriend, I
refuse to apologize because I'm
going to do you one better.
When ever you freak out and
go through an episode like this
one today I'm just gonna grab
your face and kiss you like your
going away on some very long
business trip. You know... The
kiss where your toes curl up
and your socks pop off. Yea
that kinda kiss. What can I say,
she's psycho because of me
and if if that's not the second
best reward to true love then
idk what is.
There are many names for the common ‘Fart’
To name them all is quite an art
Let’s start off with good old ‘Smell’
Who it’s from we cannot tell
From the mouths of babes a ‘Pop Off’ comes
Always a giggle to all their chums
A ‘Blast Off’ is popular with the wee ones too
Often accompanied with “who’s done a poo”?
The ‘Clanger’ is popular with many a folk
Teenage boys and your average bloke
Grandma says can you please refrain
From letting ‘Fluffy off the Chain’
Here are some more just to name a few
There’s ‘Flatulence’, ‘Wind’ and ‘Air-Poo’
Honourable mentions go to these below
‘Gas’, ‘Toot’ and ‘Fluff’
Other names for ‘letting go’
Although impressive these names above
The trophy goes
To ‘Puff of Love’
The pain I feel inside
Can be derived from my dad pride
I sit alone at night
There is this emptiness that is
The squandering of time
pondering what life will be like
Who knew that twenty-one
Would be More bumps and lumps than fun
I want to dump this chump
Standing in front of the mirror
Waiting till its clearer
This Brings a sobering effect
Over thinking each step
It is like I'm playing freeze tag
With these mundane demons
And They always keep me in check
Because I cant see them
I have been contained and constrained
I complain of chest pains
Till my veins pop off like champagne
Bruce Banner's a freight train
Going insane in the membrane
So should I smoke weed then
To cope with this moping season
Cause my yoke is heavy
and dope seems dope for lots of reasons
Even though I do know
What the verse says in Ephesians
"Do not get drunk on wine...
Instead be filled with the spirit"
This is my one beacon
That's give me hope when I hear it
Its a choice for heathens
Like me, to write our own lyrics
Since death has been beaten
And no longer need to fear it
His love is infinite
My life cant be helped but still strike a pose
punch you in the face call for a second dose
i got so much ice hell just frooze
light a fire up under all your noses

i have no guns i got my tounge
slaying beasts and feeling numb
my heart is gone to puns

Oh Dear, What Can The Matter Be
Oh Dear, what can the matter be
the mirrors all lie – they never flatter me
all they see is a much larger – fatter me
they should be charged with reflective battery
I think the wash shrunk my favorite top
for when I inhale – the buttons pop off
Oh Dear, the jeans in the glass
cannot be mine – just look at that ass
it cannot be true – there must be a flaw
there’s double the chin beneath a slack jaw
Oh Dear, look at that matted coif
I started teasing and just couldn’t stop
Dear, dear, it just isn’t fair
that reflection - it’s perfectly clear
full of looking glass malice
a “Rabbit Hole” palace
that tortured poor Alice
Oh Dear, what can the matter be
why must I seek flat glass flattery

I am a bright yellow blossom
I spread beauty across the lawn
But, adults consider me a weed
And children play games
Wanting to pop off my head!
I am a Dandelion and deserve respect
I am prettier than muddy snow!
When I turn soft delicate white,
People shake me in the wind!
Do they realize my seeds spread more?
Now here comes a Dandelion plucking tool
Oh, My!

…undeniably tattered and shredded
my itinerary compromised by being
considered as prey and being
expected as a masochistic self-flagellator
losing revenue to the big gun’s atrocious tillage of the mind’s phosphorescence
I bagged the boy’s brigade for being bridges
and then being able to be
nearly my own cerebracy and again
appreciating my own celibacy …
in a rational loss of solicitude for
those obliquely using or anti
I built ramparts against the banality
of the ill-advised and the
ephemeral lacy streak of zig-zaggers
and water-diviners
and lost the locality so as to bequeath my
solid grade before I pop off into
the space of the grey morning light
Now don’t get overstrung

Awoken by my internal clock,
the ground is cold and sticky.
Head is pounding,
body is dirty,
why did I sleep here?
Arch my back up slightly off the wooden floor,
shards of brown glass pop off my grey hoodie.
Better get a grip before this gets worse.
My eyes crack open.
It takes longer for the room to get into focus than usual.
For a solid five minutes the living room looked like its reflection in the Hudson River.
Is it dark?
No.
Do my guts hurt?
No.
Do I remember what happened last night?
Barely.
My first six drinks were Pabst Blue Ribbon
but I must have gotten myself into something else.
My nose hurts—
damn,
how much money do I have?
Less but not much less.
If I did cocaine I didn’t pay for it.
Check the clock,
8:35am
class is at 9:20am
better head to the bus.
I get up,
brush myself off,
toss one strap of my backpack over my shoulder
head out the blue door.
Leaving the house like this
leaves me insecure.
My body likely smells of yeasty mold,
my breath likely smells like the inside of an ancient treasure chest,
the general aura of smoke follows me as well.
Jessie stops me in the streets.
Catches me in the act of walking while recovering.
“your hair is messy,
your smell is musty,
your general aura is tired.”
Thanks
I thought to myself.
I tried to leave.
Jessie stops me.
“What do you want out of all this?”
“I want to live like this until something or someone stops me.”
“What about karma?
Don’t you think that if you keep behaving like this, it’ll hit you hard?”
“Karma is reality,
if it just proved it to me I’d be happy.”
She left with an unimpressed prolonged gaze.
but I got to class on time.
I woke up
warm
in my bed.
I like Jessie
I hope I see her today.
She’d make fun of me
and I’d laugh.
I’ve been good for too long,
my finger
have become permanently curved
and I growl
with every other breath
so in order to gain control
I release the beast.
Running into a field
I tear out of my shirt
as my bones begin to shift
locking into a sleeker,
primal form
reawakening the wolf,
and as my jaws extend
I raise my head to the moon
and howl
at the sight
of my aluminous friend.
I slide to a stop
as the last of my fur
finishes extending
through my pores,
sit and cock my head
as I listen,
catching a rustle
off to the right in the near woods.
Instinct decides
to head towards it
and I begin at a ground eating pace.
I can taste its scent in the air,
rabbit.
Reaching the edge of the forest
I delve in full tilt,
mere inches from the trees,
so close
I can feel their presence
on my skin.
There it is
bolting across the path,
I snap my jaws
catching its right hind leg
and swing my head up
lofting my prey into the air.
Back legs sliding
as I turn around,
dirt and rocks
spraying away from me
I leap,
its still trying to run in the air,
futile.
I feel my mouth encircle it
and clamp down.
As my teeth meet
I feel the head pop off
then I come skidding to a stop,
splattered blood
dripping from my muzzle,
breath coming in pants.
I hunker down
to my feast,
desire sated for now,
next time
I’ll have to find
larger prey.
You walk into the store
And stride down the aisle.
You pick me up and
Try to look casual while
You carry me down
To the checkout line.
Pull out your wallet,
You soon will be mine.
Your friends are observing
Every move that you make.
The clerk asks for ID –
You give him a fake.
You quickly walk down
To the front of the store.
You hop in the car
And drive away from the shop.
Then you shut off the ignition,
And pop off my top.
You take a few drinks
And pass me around.
That’s when you decide
To take a drive around town.
You turn on your car
And put your foot on the clutch.
I’m sober, you think,
I didn’t have very much.
You pull onto the road
With me by your side,
Taking occasional sips
As you enjoy the ride.
Then the brakes on the car
In front of you squeal.
You try hard to stop,
But you lose control of the wheel.
You skid off the road,
And you know you have crashed.
The dashboard is shattered,
The windshield is smashed.
Minutes like hours,
You’re in treacherous pain,
That washes your senses,
Envelops your brain.
The screams all around you
Are faint to your ears,
As life flashed before you,
Your hopes and your fears.
Minutes like hours,
You plead and you pray,
I’ll never touch it again,
Just let me live one more day.
Your mine starts to go dark,
It falls apart piece by piece.
And then you slip into blackness,
The pain has finally ceased.
Before you entered that store,
You should have thought twice,
For I am the substance
That cost you your life.
Art is everywhere, buddy.
Flourishing all around you.
A stimulus maximus.
80 arrows at your heart
All the time.
Yet you don't feel it.
It's too much.
You're out there.
Somewhere.
You're somewhere all the time.
While miracles pop off all over the place.
Who cares!
You're trying to keep hold
Of your 5 year old.
