Premium Member harbor snow

I watch the harbor through the falling snow
the sky and sea form one vast, gray tableau
the sun is nothing but a weak, background glow
the scene draws me, as if hypnotically.

Five mile’s lighthouse warnings go unvoiced
its strobes not lashing out, so what’s its point
it stands majestically but disappoints
replaced electronically

A tiny lobster boat makes its landward way
towards the inlet from the wider channel bay
a powdery blizzard is underway
which melts into the mirror sea.

Ospreys still hunt round the lobsterman's pride
snowflakes stain them as they soar and glide
other seabirds huddle side by side
shivering and crowing lividly.

Through the narrows the lonely boat steams
past icy Luddington Rock and East Breakwater's breech
its berths and moorings, within minutes reach
and sadly, it’s time for me to leave.

Natures Nest

How beautiful the sounds, sights of nature

In the distance alarm call of a cuckoo,

beautiful sound of summer Tanager

Blackbirds hopping around getting in a stew,

Acrobatics of swallows, swifts, Martins,

Crows of the carrion, rooks, jackdaws, Raven

Cooing of turtle doves and wood pigeons,

Chittering robin, eyes closed what heaven,

Finches so sweet, green, bull, haw, gold and more

Speedy blue, great, coal, willow and marsh ****,

nature is such a pleasure never a chore ,

Seeing these wonderful birds thrills two bits

Serenity while watching our game bird

Pheasant, partridge, grouse, geese and mallard duck

Graceful swans glide, sights and sounds must be heard

Wading birds sifting for food through silt and muck,

birds of prey, kestrel, sparrow hawk, Peregrine

Eagles, buzzards, goshawk, ospreys skilful hunters

Larks hovering, lap wings, owls, magpies so pristine,

Sea birds, waders, hunters, lovely colours,

These moments of relaxation, undisturbed

listening, watching our beautiful wild birds.

To the Beach

Sky so unmarred this torrid day,
That, to the beach, let’s make our way!

To the beach, to the beach,
Where we’ll watch sea oats sway
And glad toddlers at play,
Where we’ll hear ospreys screech,
Lying clear of tide’s reach
Cooled in sea breeze all day—

Yes, off to the beach,
	Where, your bikini you’ll flaunt
	As, on waves, sunbeams glitter
While sand castles rise
And we cavort in chill surf:
	Oh, the beach beckons today.

Premium Member Back Creek Sounds

Back Creek Sounds
Rhythmic wave crescendos,
Like dynamic static of radios,
Tinkling and gurgling noises,
As liquid over rocks poises,
Ospreys shriek at laughing gulls,
Slapping water on slicing hulls,
Burping diesels add staccatos,
Winds strum mast-stay legatos,
Sails fill or flap by whispered pressure,
Bouys gong in the background with hauture,
As my toes on the sand go crunch,
Shouts my stomach, “Seafood for lunch”.

White eyed gulls
Soar over crimson tides
As masked butterflyfish swim below

Flocks of migratory birds gather on its banks
Providing a feast for Ospreys and Sparrow hawks

Pharoah's chariots lay at its depths
Ghostly souvenirs of

Sails Gliding On the Shimmering Sea

Sails gliding on the shimmering sea,
don't be hasty to engulf silence
as the chapel's choir engages in a spiritual oratorio praising Him;
an octave higher or lower brings
their inspirational hymn to a desired sound of felicity...
those tones that the loud organ makes!

We, as they, are lifted by the sustenance of faith,
too pure and orthodox to extinguish our oneness of spirit;
adhering to rigid standards and beliefs...forbidding sin
to feed on its vain opprobrium and oppress purity!
We, as they, dwell in this oracle to outshine indefinitely,
and outreach every unreachable and unconquerable limit!

Sails gliding on the shimmering sea,
watch the advancing sunrays osculate the waves of the harbor,
and the optical images that reality conveys!
See the ospreys which learn their skill by osmosis...
that even the ovenbirds can't acquire;
hear the believers's proclamation presaging and predicating unity!

Irreverent and doubtful soul, don't pursue vanity:
don't be similar to a prancing horse that surprises the rider;
don't prattle when foolishness becomes a hangover!
You have put too much effort into exhibiting your valor...
hardly serving a purpose and be totally useful;
be like the sails gliding on the shimmering sea!

Natures Fisher

Over the loch they glide in pairs, one thing on their mind food, hungry fledgling await the lochs delicacies, sun gleams on the calm water, as the cool breeze creates ripples, two pair of Ospreys dip and dive, eyes set ready to pounce at the right time, then without notice one swoops, claws skimming the surface, unsuccessful, empty handed this time, like all fishermen these will not give up, life or death depends on their success, they are so graceful as they glide from one end of the loch to the other, one swoops again then another, both rise from the surface of the loch both with a catch, plucked from the water as easy as a musician plucking the strings of a harp, a tasty meal at last, trout for lunch, back later for dinner, the beauty of nature in glorious flight, exceptional birds.

master fish catcher

glide swoop miss retry got it

                                     trout beware ospreys

Premium Member Collision In Ornithology

Birds are in conflict with man's technology
It's an epic collision for ornithology
To these noble creatures we owe an apology

We hear bird language, we hear their song
Marveling at the music, we mimic along
Birds on earth are four hundred billion strong

A Bluejay's body smashed into asphalt
Pigeons begging on streets, humbling assault

Starlings trapped in stadiums await release
Jet engines regularly suck in our Geese

Falcons make nests up on skyscrapers
Atop utility poles Ospreys become nest makers

A Goldfinch quite naturally flies
Crashes my window and sadly dies

Shotgun pellets fly wildly at Quail
Our bond with nature could likely fail

For sixty million years birds show integrity
Now we witness avian declining prosperity
Humans need to think and do what's right
Find the balance so birds stay in flight

Premium Member Land of the Palms

Florida

To live on sand where brown pelicans glide
And blue heron spear fish in shallow marsh
To watch egrets harvest insects that hide
in long hot summers that are sometimes harsh
Eyes of alligators pierce water's surface
and rattlesnakes lay silently in wait
This land of movement has a softer grace
and a natural beauty so innate
To stroll its white beaches, to feel a cool breeze
To sit under palms and watch ospreys fish
and see gold sunsets as life moves with ease
The time of the day you will never miss

Seeds from Queen Palms hang like grapes
And warmer wind blow across vast landscapes

Parade of Feathers

no bands formed, no marshal led
this was a unique parade for birds instead
all dressed up in their colorful wardrobe
proudly representing their native abode

the great snowy egret so staunch and prim
was calling the flocks that were sauntering but trim
banners were waving with the tossing of batons
Red Robin strolls by with a carriage of newborns

two cockatiels won the most colorful feather contest
cheers of ‘caw caw’ came from high up in the crow’s nest
three woodpeckers with their unique drum roll ratta tat tat!
tweetie bird showed up but not Sylvester the cat.

blue jays squawking at each other to stay in line
some hummingbirds buzzed in with the smell of wine
ospreys swooped down to march just behind the floats
groups of warblers couldn’t sing due to acute sore throats

the redpolls still staggering admist their hangover
spectacular barrage of Starlings gave a grand fly over
few snowy owls perched above on the telephone poles
some Tropicana Macaws were lagging due to aching soles

bobolinks rode on the berry bush wagon pulled by a red tail
arriving late was a raven who just got set free from bail
a chorus was performing mid stage by the mockingbirds
grey cat birds glee club were off key by only two thirds

near the end bystanders were starting to walk away
someone spoke, it’s a bird, it’s a plane that did not sway
a sight of wings circling down, perhaps with some jet lag
came the majestic bald eagle with the American flag.

The Aviators' Alphabet

A is for Airspeed who graduated from Oxford
B is for Bristol with their whispering giants
C is for Convair and Canadair also
B recalls Boulton-Paul who built many Defiants.

D for De Havilland and those sleek Comet racers
E for the energy shown at Embraer
F connotes Fairchild who made a Packet or two
And G stood for Grumman at whom few tomcats stare.

H means Handley-Page or old Hawker-Siddeley
Astounding the globe with their jump-jet designs
I’s for Invincible, she sailed with Sea Harriers
J for the Jetstream with its dynamic lines.

K stands for Kaman so creative with rotorcraft
L must be Lockheed, the Starfighter’s dad
Whining like werewolves when losing their airspeed
Sure to send shivers down the spine of some lad.

M is for Mooney, sleek princess of pistons
N recalls Northrop proud makers of Hornets
Patrolling our oceans from carriers grey
Safeguarding airspace up close to the Arctic
Or defending the cargoes we import every day.

O for the Ospreys whose engines can tilt
P means Piaggio with rare pushing propellors
Drowning-out tenors with their monotone song
Queue for the taxiway, proceed as instructed
Safe separation your life will prolong.

R for those Robins with oddly cranked wings
S stood for Sopwith, with taut wiring and struts
T for the Taylorcraft, no need for sprung nosewheel
U for the uniformed men in rough huts.

V for those Vickers from Brooklands ascending
W for Westland down Somerset way
X-painted large means don’t use this runway
As it’s not been maintained for many-a-day.

Y is the yearning to sit in a cockpit
To strap oneself tight to a privileged seat
Z for the Zeros that rattled their cannons
And so strafed the decks of a Pearl Harbour fleet.

Bar Harbor

Bah Habah is how they say it in Maine.
The cool summer breezes wash over the town.
Sailboats ride at rest waiting patiently at their moorings.
Lobstah fishermen load their traps, hoping for a prize haul.
Ospreys and seals vie for the best fish.
Acadia National Park beckons bikers and hikers.
Icy waters from the Labrador Current will chill the body,
The view from Cadillac Mountain will thrill the soul.
Tourists feast on the fresh sea harvest, followed by Indian pudding.
Ahh, Bah Habah in the summah!!!

Seeing spirals of Andromeda's dish
flinging itself towards the Milky Way;
many billion stars stuck in divine drama.
Through Gaia Observatory's scope eyes -
seems like two Ospreys warring in the skies.
Yet yields colossal change, spun at light speeds.

Seeing clearly our own old origins,
for mortals, this is how it all begins.
Knowing the truth may relieve one's worry,
hear earth's dynamic galactic story.
We're such specks, one of trillions;
in its vastness, aren't many minions.

Seeing one's self on our globe, universe;
always has had deep meaning for humans.
These billions of spheres shall surely collide,
the laws of physics cannot be denied.
Orbiting at an edge of our disk's swirl,
this galaxy's end will likely unfurl.
