Parade of Feathers
no bands formed, no marshal led
this was a unique parade for birds instead
all dressed up in their colorful wardrobe
proudly representing their native abode
the great snowy egret so staunch and prim
was calling the flocks that were sauntering but trim
banners were waving with the tossing of batons
Red Robin strolls by with a carriage of newborns
two cockatiels won the most colorful feather contest
cheers of ‘caw caw’ came from high up in the crow’s nest
three woodpeckers with their unique drum roll ratta tat tat!
tweetie bird showed up but not Sylvester the cat.
blue jays squawking at each other to stay in line
some hummingbirds buzzed in with the smell of wine
ospreys swooped down to march just behind the floats
groups of warblers couldn’t sing due to acute sore throats
the redpolls still staggering admist their hangover
spectacular barrage of Starlings gave a grand fly over
few snowy owls perched above on the telephone poles
some Tropicana Macaws were lagging due to aching soles
bobolinks rode on the berry bush wagon pulled by a red tail
arriving late was a raven who just got set free from bail
a chorus was performing mid stage by the mockingbirds
grey cat birds glee club were off key by only two thirds
near the end bystanders were starting to walk away
someone spoke, it’s a bird, it’s a plane that did not sway
a sight of wings circling down, perhaps with some jet lag
came the majestic bald eagle with the American flag.
