Premium Member Upon the Sand

An old man wrote upon the sand,
Sea foam sweeping to the shore,
It's lowest ebb, the tidal bore ...
Coins of sunlight, gold and grand.

His pen, a cane that was a gift,
Long ago when times were good ...
His lovely wife had found the wood
     Washed ashore, among the drift.

She carved it in her loving way,
          With intricate designs and words,
A heart, initials, and some birds ...
A gift to him one Christmas day.

She was gone now, twenty years,
          Then ravaged by a winter's flu ...
Now he was left with naught to do,
But try to mitigate his tears.

So each day to the sea he went,
And etched an ode upon the beach,
His tortured soul revealed in each,
Meant to quell his heart's lament.

But twice a day the tide came in ...
And washed his sonnets off the shore,
To him, a sign she wished for more,
Poems of all that might have been.

The love he'd one day see ... again.

Premium Member Poetic Ambitions

To enchant the eye and tickle the tongue
with levels of nuance like well-aged wine,
to engage the ear and limber the lungs
as sea winds seasoned with fragrance of brine.

To hearten the soul or tear it apart,
to start with a sigh and end with a gasp,
to sharpen the mind and quicken the heart,
to aim one's reach to outdistance the grasp.

To roar like a lion and ever stand fast,
to bring out smiles and mitigate pain,
to tell the legends of histories past,
and teach their mistakes, not do them again.

Premium Member A Wish, a Song, a Prayer

May you call to mind cherished lullaby, or prayer,
something tried and true, when it seems no one is there.
Sound and reason, oft times, circumvent the ear
when the shadows drown to expose our every fear.

May you memorize every word in heart and mind
with the melody and its time not far behind.
Soul may weep with tears if the spirit's well-aligned,
but this one-two punch is a plan of good design.

It makes silent that which torments, blinds our view;
stops us drinking from that toxic monster's brew;
chases misery with heartfelt plea anew ~
In the act, we call to arms His whole darn crew.

Let the song console you, mitigate your woes;
as you ruminate, let it soothe your weary soul.
Sing aloud or silently to tempo slow
as your earnest prayer clears a path to daybreak's glow.

Never judge, it's ours to do with as we please;
as we stand, we fall to frail and fragile knees.
Bumped and bruised, we long for modicum of ease,
yet such sweet collapse finds us lost in stormy seas.

You've escaped the depths, you can do it once again,
and again, my friend, if you must. Do not give in.
You are stronger than you ever could conceive.
When you have a choice, choose hope. Always believe.

Not All Poets Are Kindred Souls

Not all poets are kindred souls
That theory is full of holes
For a few, poetry extols
Different goals Different goals

Words guided by what's in our hearts
Wanderlusts or humorous thoughts
I value artful counterparts
I don't hurl darts I don't hurl darts

Don't point fingers of shame at me
I treat no one with treachery
and I don't act like a queen bee
Hypocrisy Hypocrisy

Don't harm poets with pen or knife
If you're unhappy with your life
Why are you filled with angst and strife
Like Barney Fife Like Barney Fife

Sadness is a depressing trait
A mood that might simply abate
If you stop whining... mitigate
No need for hate No need for hate

I'm not part of a gang or pack
My friends and I do not attack
We have not stabbed you in the back
Disgruntled flack Disgruntled flack

Take screenshots like a bombardier
We've no need to tremble in fear
You've no reason to shed a tear
Now is that clear? Now is that clear?

With poisoned seeds of malice sown
Repeated complaints you bemoan
A cawing crow you now are known
Contentious prone Contentious prone

Broken fences will never mend
With a mindset that will not bend
Into those depths I'll not descend
I will transcend I will transcend

I'll write no more and waste my time
On one who thinks her views sublime
I will choose a healthier clime
To write in rhyme To write in rhyme

Premium Member Brokenness

In the beginning it was not so. Adam and Eve were perfect when God’s created them. Their interaction with each other reflected the perfection of the relationship between Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

They, like us were created with freedom of choice and could choose whether to follow God’s plan for their lives, or go their own way. When tempted by Satan, they chose to follow his suggestion and disobey God.

That act of disobedience fractured their relationship with God and with each other, and resulted in the brokenness that we experience today.

Adam and Eve hid from God after their disobedience. This is the first evidence of Brokenness. We hide or try to hide our wrongdoing because we are Broken.

Confronted with his disobedience, Adam and Eve resorted to blame. He blamed God, she blamed the serpent. Ever wondered why we are inclined to blame others for our mistakes. It’s because we are Broken.

Many children are abandoned by one or sometimes both parents, who themselves were abandoned by one or both of their parents. The result is brokenness.

Divorce, substance abuse, prostitution, sexual promiscuity, lesbianism, homosexuality, bisexuality, low self-esteem, pleasure-seeking, lying, cheating, stealing, killing, and a myriad other dysfunctions are symptoms of humanity’s Brokenness.

Where do we find help for our Brokenness? It begins with a choice. We know from experience that to keep our cars running well we need to follow the instructions in the Owner’s Manual.

Follow the instructions and your car runs well and you get to enjoy it for a long time. Ignore the instructions and your car will finally break down and leave you stranded. The choice is yours.

After this Brokenness invaded God’s plans for a perfect life for his creatures, he devised a plan to combat our Brokenness and finally effect humanity’s healing and restoration.

Like cars, we have a Maker and he has provided us with an Owner’s Manual, called the Bible. Read it and become familiar with God’s plan for our healing and restoration.

By following his instructions, we can mitigate the effects of our Brokenness. When we ignore his instructions, we experience break down in one or many areas of life. The choice is ours. Healing and Restoration or Brokenness.

Covid-19 Diary

I started a Corona diary
today, recording what is happening,
and how it’s impacting my family,
as we adhere to social distancing.

There’s more than just one minor risk involved,
that causes us to give this germ wide berth,
to mitigate this problem, not yet solved,
impacting every life on planet Earth.

Most stores are closed, and factories are si-
lent, in a fateful effort to preserve
all lives, both young and old, as we apply
new rules, in hopes to flatten out the curve.

So, here I am ensconcing with my wife,
recording Covid’s changes to my life.

Now Is the Time

Our nation is on a precipice
A deadly virus has gone amiss
Now is the time for us to get right with God
So that this unsettling spirit can be dismissed
Chaos, confusion and uncertainty
Are choking the nation
Now is the time for us to come together
In righteous indignation
God wants us to mitigate in order
To alleviate the disquiet at hand
And he will call on anyone
To further His divine plans
No you don't have to be a saint
To do whatever God does ask
Truth be told God will use the worst sinner
To accomplish His tasks
Now is the time to simply accept
That which God inspires
As we can't live by man's standard
But by only what God desires

Now is the time to stand in the gap
And act on our faith
To show the world what disciples do
Now isn't the time to wait
For now is the time to get rid of pharaohs
Those who oppress and control
For as true disciples and witnesses of Christ
We must be brave and hold

Now is the time to call out to Jesus
Who is the Great I Am
That name above all other names
The Redeemer of man
And unlike Moses we don't have to wander
To wonder nor ask to who
As we now know Jesus is our Savior
And what He can do

Now is the time to say I am here
God use me as you please
For I am your willing servant
And unto to You I will appease

Premium Member Common Sense

I'm concerned with the lack of common sense;
it's notably missing when needed most.
And while its absence comes at our expense,
nothing else can match it, not even close.

It once would mitigate anger, hate, and greed;
lately, however, it has been a no-show.
I pray for its return in thought and deed;
if it's still relevant, I'd like to know.

It could untangle impossible knots;
after all, common sense overrides lies.
But it's missing; try connecting the dots;
is that why anarchy is on the rise?

I Wonder

I wonder,
Whenever it starts to thunder,
And the rain causes most to do a runner,
Before their house goes under,
Do the they lament their biggest blunder,
Of not planting more trees to sit under,
And leaving no green area to mitigate their blunder,
So, they can sleep through the thunder.

Raise Your Voice

you are ambedkarite then raise your voice,
don’t give up your rights raise your voice,
that’s not your god who created,
your dalit destiny,
man is his own creator,
and master of his destiny,

do have a reality check
see your ardent buddhist mate
succeed far beyond the rest
whats dragging you behind,
is you and your own mind,
if one man can do it,
you too can do it,

don’t complain later,
come together follow dr. ambedkar,
arise, awake and gain buddhist sight,
to conquer the caste might,
to overcome your past atrocity,
see right into future possibility,
be educated, united and agitate,
nothing else could mitigate.

Premium Member Soul Stance River - 24

Our fortified camp is well out of range of arrow, or gun shot, except the rear flank,
of course the Shoshone are reputed to be deficient in firearms
but are expert in hand weapons and guerilla tactics,
its a gamble, but we must seek to establish identity and intent
I'm taking a recon group of twelve into the valley
we're spread out to mitigate the impact of ambush
remaining close to the brush and treelines
the interior of the mountains look like the inside of deep candle wells
and we are the flame that attracts attention,
I see three people by a popping creek,
its a girl child, a teenage girl and an old woman with baskets picking grapes,
for an instant I think of the mythological Fates, have we been plucked and cut,
signaling for Drouillard, I procure a mirror, a comb and other small trinkets
to offer as gifts, and I'm rolling up my deerskin sleeve to show I am a White Man,
tactfully I step out of the snowberry thickets unarmed
pleading repeatedly the Shoshone phrase I've learnt from Sacagawea,
" Ta ba bone...Ta ba bone...Ta ba bone..."
the child has immediately wrapped herself around the old woman's leg
the teen has scampered like a doe in silent terror
looking back at me with eyes of screaming innocence, mouth crying open,
the woman is standing frozen with a face of defense
and from her beaded belt unsheathes a carbonized dagger,
Drouillard comes out gently doing his best with the speech and sign language
as I go on one knee showing the gifts, thank Deity they calm, smile, and accept,
we have convinced them to lead us to the village
the woman has persuaded the teen, named Maraseca to rejoin and receive the mirror,

Premium Member The Push Me Pull You Game

Like a character in a Dr Seuss book
I play the New Years “Push Me Pull You” game
Daily I stretch stubborn limbs
Into pretzel-like shapes
Hoping to mitigate nature’s downward force
I beg my legs to carry me with a ballerina’s lightness
Instead I’m gratified to lumber like an elephant

But just as surely
Gravity returns each night
Tightening my joints’ screws
Pulling my tendons’ strings
Compressing my spine's vertebrae
Ignoring my pleas
To just stay where I put them

Hips refuse to do my bidding
I say, “Swivel!”.
They reply with a half-hearted twist
Like opening a tin with a rusty can opener
They creak and protest
Surrendering minimally to my commands

I pray for rubber-band arms
As I reach behind to unzip
I receive a lock-jaw response
Elbows protrude in disjointed positions
Instead of a ballerina’s plie
My legs respond with twisted screams of agony

My neck once had backward eyes that inspired terror
In kids afraid of being discovered
Now it is straight-jacketed into a forward position
Like a soldier in a parade line
Afraid to get called-out by the commander

Don’t push us too far my muscles yell
Aches and pains too terrible to imagine
Will be your rewards
If you overextend.

Noble heritage they cannot erase

Ancestor’s plight laid bare for all to see

Tribal identity etched in each face

Invincible spirit their pedigree

Various attempts meant to “civilize”

Expanding demands for more and more land

Pogroms by forced removal terrorized

Extreme suffering they had to withstand.

Only unshakable resolve saw them through

Providing strength to mitigate their fears

Lives lost, yes, their memory we’ll renew

Endless remembrance of the Trail of Tears.

All Power Belongs To You Almighty Allah

You the omnipotent and Merciful For All,
O my Lord !All power belongs to You,
Whether who is Muslim or infidel doesn’t matter,
Your blessings are uncountable through,

Rainfall or waterfall cold breeze to warm,
Mountain to land , Sea or the endless sand,
Heat or Cold ,everything we hold,
The measure of everything in your hand,

Whom You will grant, Woe or pleasure ,respect or contempt,
Life and Death, wealth and poverty,
Your dignity and beneficence cover the whole world,
Though the vast eternal is your Sovereignty ,

Mitigate the burden of crimes, Supplicate for forgiveness,
We are your sinful creature, pardon us clemently,
Rogation for real success, show us the right way,
As You listen to those who don’t have tongue and they utter silently!!!
