Best Merlot Poems
When next my eyes are blessed to set on you,
May that be soon or further down the line,
Will tears refuse to paint with only blue,
And choose instead less colors viewed as mine;
I’ll see no beauty where it was before,
No lilac petals shall your garden grow,
And that it won’t, in dark, then to a store,
Where bottles sold are filled with fine merlot;
One sip is all these words will need to slur,
That tell left feet, a pair, attached my legs,
To stumble forth when hunger might occur,
But hear eternal hollow famished begs;
For years have passed since wine thin veins unwind,
Same your resplendence which turns vision blind.
One glass of Merlot makes my innards tingle
Dry wine has a way of making me romantic
Two glasses blur my vision, but I'm eager to mingle
Half a carafe finds my language less than pedantic
No misinterpretation, dwell not on meanings semantic

With trembling fingers I poured Merlot wine
Overflowing the rim of his chalice
Salty drops on my lips, the taste of brine
from tears spilled as he spoke words of malice
His offensive, "Cheers," I chose to decline
the sting of mockery, cold and callous
Piteous, I lingered without relief
Flooded with torment, I'm drowning in grief

Form "O" Contest for Broken Wings
I remember the honeyed words,
and the
...anticipation
of the touch that rendered time irrelevant.
I hear laughter in the next room;
astounded at the drunk and the blind.
it’s all so fleeting; we turn to dust in a heartbeat
...fading
I speak in logic and move inside of thunder.
as my skin is peeled away,
as shadowed eyes follow me,
and I feel fingers reaching from the grave,
the familiarity of your nails scratching
down my back and ancient melodies we shared
that reflect our persistent missteps;
the ones that buried me alive.
I remember the creaky floors that
carried you to our bed,
The crimson sheets where we danced;
We found harmony in this place
As the world stoked it’s flame around us.
I can still hear the echoes,
Distant and smoldering.
“My love was born in your eyes,
Don’t you ever look away.”
Your face hides in the mirror,
Lost inside my own empty stare.
You promised me forever.
But beneath this broken glass,
I can hear it all shatter.
Can you remember how you asked me
if we could turn back time?
The ash that we laid to waste
between your chains
and my misgivings set ablaze
in our lovemaking
Now time is timeless for you
and I feel you, erotic in your ghosting touches
I still claw to hold on to this life
You're essence caresses and taunts me
your touch is warm, from the other side
...of this veil
Our hands release from their dance,
as your dead, coarse skin withers and dries
...no hope for a final embrace
But I can still taste your merlot stained lips;
The way they brushed against mine.
I can still feel your pulse rushing to meet
My own.
Your voice, and it’s promises.
“This world can burn us down,
But our ashes will be spread together.”

To savor this glass I don't need to go
To see the French vineyards within Bordeaux
Or walk the wine cellars of a chateau.
It won't require to see where the grapes grow
Or squeeze their juices between every toe.
Some might prefer all that grandeur, although
For me, only this does contentment owe –
To sit in my chair and sip this merlot
And drift to sleep with a blissful sigh, "Oh."

I’ll never forget that first drink I had,
sweet Raspberry Merlot with my alcoholic dad-
He gave it to me with such ease,
my innocence died turning into disease.
I’ll never forget that first drink I had.
It dripped down my throat with fragrant desire,
I had ignited a flame of drunken fire-
It gave me intense pleasure,
beyond time or measure,
my heart raced and I began to perspire.
I grew up drinking that wine every day,
it drained to my stomach in a comforting way-
The sweet taste of fruit filled my soul,
nothing like that Raspberry Merlot,
until my life unraveled, began to fray.
It doesn’t matter how it was made or where,
all I know is of my life I didn’t care-
An alcoholic I became so quickly,
my passion for addiction I could see,
it was in my blood; was it really fair?
How was I to stop my need for this drink?
I couldn’t face the facts, couldn’t think-
I craved grapes from the vineyard,
my life became so darn hard,
fractured and shattered in one tiny blink.
This disease became my deep shame,
I was filled with frustration and blame-
No one could understand,
why I held wine in my right hand,
I must confess a mess I became.
Almost nine years ago I quit the bottle,
put in all the energy I had full throttle-
I strived for serene sobriety,
a life of tranquil propriety,
but on my heart left a raspberry mottle.
*mottle means: stain; blemish*

STARTING OVER MIDST MERLOT AND CLOVER
You ask me if we can start over as if we just met
with all the errant paths i've taken to forget
let the past be forgotten and today become brand new
and all my expectations depend upon you
we can lay in the clover sipping on Merlot wine
me thanking God that i've got time again to make you mine
we can kiss that kiss that never happened and suddenly slipped away
so perhaps we can make this a brand new love kind of day
sometimes I feel as if the world has left me far behind
with too many bad memories pressing on my mind
the reasons I am the way I am have little to do with you
so I wonder if we can make today seem brand new
I understand your anger and festering frustration
I understand how you can be repelled against such aggravation
I know why you seem angry so often and with such intensity
but honey I swear it's due to my hyper-sensitivity
I hurt for the man who hurts and cry for the woman who cries
I ain't got time for no excuses, exclusions or any sudden surprise
I'd like to know what is and isn't true
and if we can make our love today seem brand new
before all the turmoil when my pain and disappointment took control
before the universe stole my verve, excitement and my soul
so I rebelled against my nerves and let my home be a hollow in a tree
and all the problems we've had originate from me
so you ask if we can start over as if yesterday didn't exist
and let the happiness of tomorrow patiently persist
well baby I tell you that I never want to say goodbye
so if you want to start over honey let's both of us give it a try
