Best Like A Thief In The Night Poems
Those who do not know the trials of love,
do not ask the state of my heart
I've been left standing in the rain,
feeling like meaningless words,
searching for silent serenity,
away from turbulent thunder.
Safe in a sanctuary of solitude,
where the laments of lightning,
no longer harm my soft sanity.
Will speech be my foe, forever?
On the edge of silence,
losing all desire to speak,
write or breath with time.
I read the promises of poets,
yet felt no intense impulsivity
in their ink, which made me think.
Is poetry a fictitious fellowship?
Words can be like crushed promises,
like fragile leaves of vulnerability,
waiting under twilight trees for death.
Sometimes loneliness is barbaric,
but when there's wilderness, there's magic.
As I stumbled upon her misguided quill,
the crimson shade of my soul,
felt warmer than cinnamon tea.
Her poetic wings had succumbed to slumber,
within a fragile cocoon crumbling with cracks.
First glimpse of her eremitic eyes,
I saw billions of solitary stars,
illuminating like golden tears,
so I kissed them without touching -
healing her, soothed my tired tongue.
She was the butterfly,
and I, her rose of desire.
In the absence of iced emotions,
like a thief in the night,
she stole my once forsaken heart.
Forgotten lost words returned,
as I lost control of flowing verses.
She had never read my poetry,
but was the one hidden behind verses.
Her voice sang a secret symphony,
who's melody makes my muse dance.
Was I even a wordsmith,
before you diversified my pen.
I know you are like the wind,
regardless how hard you blow -
I will forever calm each zephyr.

Thump, thump...thump, thump
Your heart beats with internal impediment
Making each breath a struggle.
I see your pain, I feel your anguish,
I dearly love your determination to endure.
I can only imagine how difficult it is to
relinquish days of youth when your strength
was the marvel of the men you worked with
side by side...celebrated as the Paul Bunyan
of the shipyard whose power knew no bounds.
Advancing years have garnered fears of
imminent shadows from the Grim Reaper
inching closer day by day until you can
feel his breath on the nape of your neck.
Past regrets loom before you of missed
opportunities, and so many things left
unaccomplished, unattended projects that
act as brutish reminders of failing health.
You think I don't understand the dilemmas
you face in just getting through another
hellish night of insomnia to sleepwalk
through another day plagued by doubts of
Time slipping away like a thief in the night.
I want to be here for you...with you.
Please let me be.

Tick tock
Tick tock
I lie awake and watch the clock
Pain
You stalk me like a thief in the night
Robbing me of sleep
Tick tock
Tick tock
I lie awake and watch the clock
Pain
My constant companion
Always by my side
Tick tock
Tick tock
I lie awake and watch the clock
I rise
You follow me
Robbing me of sleep
You stalk me like a thief in the night
Tick tock
Tick tock
I want to scream and break this clock

[Verse 1]
I keep staring at the empty side of the bed
Wondering why you left without a word said
Was it the way I held on too tight?
Or did you just get tired of the fight?
[Verse 2]
You slipped out like smoke through my hands
Leaving me with questions I’ll never understand
There’s a song we used to play on repeat
Now it’s just silence that I can’t defeat
[Chorus]
Every moment’s a cell that I can’t break free from
I wasn’t there when you handed down the sentence, love
Caught between memories and what I never knew
This limbo’s a place where hope just won’t pull through
You were my lover, my closest friend
Now I’m chasing shadows that never end
Are we done? Or just frozen in time?
This waiting, this not knowing—it’s slowly killing my mind
[Verse 3]
You wanted freedom — maybe more than me
Took your Independence like a thief in the night, silently
I’m left in the ruins of all we planned
With nothing but ghosts and a ring in my hand
[Chorus]
Every moment’s a cell that I can’t break free from
I wasn’t there when you handed down the sentence, love
Caught between memories and what I never knew
This limbo’s a place where hope just won’t pull through
You were my heartbeat, my favorite sound
Now it’s just echoes I keep hanging around
Are we done? Or is this some cruel pause?
Girl, living like this is a slow, quiet loss
[Bridge]
If you wanted to leave, just say it plain
Don’t bury me in silence or leave me in pain
I’m drowning in questions, no lifeline in sight
You wanted your freedom — you got your Independence that night
[Outro]
Forever locked away, and I’m still here
Haunted by memories, haunted by fear
Longing for answers I’ll never get
In this limbo where I’m stuck — can’t forget
Wet Dreams
WITH HER DOWN CAST EYES, MY SWEET ANGEL LISTENS TO MY PRAYERS
SHE LOOKS PREDISPOSED TO TRANQUILIZE ALL MY CARES
AS I FALL TO SLEEP OVER MY MIND SWEET FASCINATION REIGNS
TO MAKE ME THINK SWEET PARADISE I HAD GAINED
SHE ENTERS MY DREAMS LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT
I BASK IN HER LOVE WITH EXQUISTE DELIGHT
HER EYES ARE THE STARS, LIKE SPARKLING DIAMONDS IN THE NIGHT
HER SOFT KISSES ARE TENDER, AND DRAIN ME OF ALL MY MIGHT
SHE HAS STOLEN MY SOUL, HER LOVE BURNS LIKE FIRE
INFLAMED IS MY HEART, MY PASSION FILLED DESIRE
I EMBRACE HER BEAUTEOUS SPIRIT; A THOUSAND TIMES I AM BLESSED
HER FAIR STATUESQUE BODY I CARINGLY CARESS
MY ANGEL A TOP OF ME - I CANNOT DENY HER
AS SHE TAKES ME TO HEAVEN- WE SOAR FOREVER HIGHER
WE FEEL THE THUNDER- AS OUR BODIES PEAK
A FEELING SO WANTED, - A NEEDED RELEASE
AN EXPLOSION OF EMOTION,
AND THEN SATISFYING PEACE.
I AWAKE THE NEXT MORN - MY SHEETS SOAKING WET
I REMEMBER MY DREAM,- HOW COULD I EVER FORGET
I PANICK WHEN I SEE - SOME UNMENTIONABLE STAINS
A PRACTICE I KNOW MY PARENTS WOULD PREFER I REFRAIN.
FOR ASSUREDLY I TELL YOU, REMEMBERING THIS YOUNG BOYS BLISS
THAT HUNGRYLY I WAIT FOR MY NEXT ANGEL’S KISS.
Like a thief in the night she stole your heart
But I’ve seen the way you look at her ...
It was simply love at first sight
She has curves in all the right places
You simply can’t keep your hands off her
I can no longer compete for your attention
Ladies....
Why do we have to suffer when men get a new car!
12th August 2015
Calm in the center of the carnage,
inaction seen by detached retinas
Silently viewing
societal norm walls falling
Violently by lewd winds toppling ...
house of marked cards folding
Rendezvous bluff blowing in the bedroom again,
lust treasure memories buried under closet debris sin
Like a thief in the night,
you always wanna take out more than you put in
Step lightly
into the storm building inside of you
Blow the farm silo doors down,
set the milch cow on the barn roof
Step darkly
into the center of the storm,
Rest your troubled mind
inside the heart of the dead calm
Wait until the storm is abated and gone
Then, go outside of yourself ...
see the wreckage everywhere
The twisted limbs of your lovers
strewn in shocked poses of incredulity
Look of lonely etched on their faces,
saying: How could you, baby, do this to me ...
Why did you leave me outside to die horribly?
Blowing them a kiss,
you shovel them into piles of compost
Fertilizer love turning them into ground feed,
and as soon as you finish the dirty deed
Another tornado is forming,
another hurricane is coming
Step inside the fury swirling,
sit inside of the storm, where it’ll be safe
Every new lover wanna shelter there,
but they came to the wrong-hearted place
This poem was inspired by a poem titled
"The Evolution of a Broken Heart" by
the talented poetess, Leanne Lovejoy-Burton
Ghastly sights on the day of the dead frighten me,
Zombie ghouls from the grave will arise from afar
With a howl and a scream sodden ghost running free
Come the fear of dying ‘neath the moon and the star.
On a cold October autumn night keeping watch,
Lest the hand of the witch grab my leg, drag me down
From the rags of my shirt, a demon takes a swatch
I do fear nasty grins of the mime-painted clown.
Vicious haunts of the dead still doth lurk in shadows
Like the pall of one corpse from the hole ever near,
The poor soul freely hangs from old wooden gallows
While I flee like a thief in the night out of fear.
From the depth of my grief here on earth, you hear it,
The deep sighs of my past are still here in spirit.

V.3:
I smell the odor of remorse and hatred in the atmosphere...
Leaving me with scraps of terrifying fear
Waking up in the morning
With you under my sheets
Should I count you amongst the numbers?
Do you stand apart from the rest?
I must confess
Under tons of stress
Hiding this love
Like a thief in the night
I cried a river
In my heart, in my heart
Deliver…oh deliver
Me from temptation that’s been deceiving me from the start
I cried a river
In my heart, in my heart
We’ll be with each other forever and ever
Together, we won’t depart
Ch.:
I’m nothing to you…you came out of the blue
Living this lie…refusing my cries
Frozen inside and feeling kind of numb
I feel dumb…well, it’s a bummer…
Wiping away the pain
Wiping away the tears
I ran because of fear
But I must spill the secrets
(I am here
Here I wait)x3
Here I stand…
I hope you understand…
I hope you can see…
I hope for you to see
To see what happens
When love is given
A second chance to bloom
In my heart
I slept for way too many hours
It empowers me – the thought of reaching out to you
Numb without you motivating me…
Don’t worry – it’s not over…
You can see my heart, you can feel my heart,
Beating to the rhythm of yours
I will pass the test...take your time - I don't mind
I loathe the thought of losing you from the start
I'm left alone, doing countless chores
Here without you, I'm terrified, speechless & awfully blind
The Athiest
I was born and there was no God in sight
Was he taken like a thief in the night
At night passed on a blinking light
but not enough to stir belief
My parents felt the same as I
except to mention pumpkin pie
it evoked a spirit with a taste
when they devoured it with haste
denial made me curious
to traverse to a cultural lore
garnished with sin and disbelief
I resolved myself to say no more
I needed someone to relay
and this is what I heard her say
she whispered a prayer so she could be heard
If faith you are seekng you will be sought
He’ll hear your plea and your soul will be caught

The world prepared for war. If Christ doesn’t come back soon,
They will use their weapons, whether for good or evil.
How good it would be if it was prepared to live,
But they can’t because life is not in them.
Christ came the first time and gave life and life more abundantly,
But the enemy came to steal, to kill, and to destroy.
But be of good cheer, He is returning, sooner then you may think.
Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay everyone for what he has done. But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
I submit to you, now that He is with the Father, He knows!
Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. We are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night, for those who are not prepared.
Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. For the Lord, himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. When Christ who is in your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
So we wait, watching quietly every day,
Whenever the sun rises in the morning, I arise and say good morning Father. Surely it is the shining of His face,
Looking upon the brilliancy of His shining face, the intense brightness of His high place, Beyond the distance of the sea, for I know that He is coming soon. Maybe morning or noon, but He is coming soon,
And when the shadow of the morning Sun, reaches my room, where I am getting ready for my appointed task of the day, I know that He is coming soon, even when my task is done for the day.
The world prepared for war, but I am prepared to live.
Trees, swaying in the cool autumn breeze. Sunlight in your hair, you immortalized in my eyes forever in this moment. Windy whispers play in my ear like Children in the park. Your kiss plays on my lips like lovers in the dark.
Your fragrance slips in like a thief in the night, stealing my senses, robbing me of my defenses. I surrender to you love as i collapse softly into your bosom I'm held captive by your heartbeat as it puts me to sleep. until i drift into endless bliss, i will gather the rest of my feelings about you...so they are kept to myself.
In love I was lost
I plunged headlong
Oblivious of the consequences
For she was fair to behold
E’en fairer than the lily of the garden
She took me by my hand
And together we strolled
We explored the new frontiers of love
My company she greatly adored
Until she couldn’t break free
From the spell of love
Cast on her by fate
Uhm! It’s amazing what love can do
Damning the consequences
I forged ahead with my newfound love
Paradise was unraveled before me
An adventure of some sort it seemed
“Give it a try,” I urged myself
Shutting my mind deliberately to the odds
For if she had known
Then she wouldn’t have allowed me
Entry into her life
But her actions defies all explanation
Void envelopes her being in my absence
What had suddenly come over her?
In so short a while
When she laughed, I laughed
When I cried, she cried as well
The blissful times we shared were dear
Held close to my heart like a testament
“Could anything be this cherished?” I thought
Life definitely seemed very good
She withdrew at certain times
Not because she was through with me, nay!
But she remembers her Man-the Man
“You cannot understand,” she tells me
“You cannot understand,” she affirms
I am another Man’s wife
Like a thief in the night
Her man came
The show he stole
For he had cut short his journey
Unannounced he strolled into the scene
After all he owned the show
He assumes his manly duties once again
Giving her love and succor as it were
He was the man, I was a villain
I was soon relegated to the rear
Despondency and dejection became my theme song
Jealousy I spat out like bile
No one would empathize my shattered heart
For I was warned before hand
Not to fall in love with
Another Man’s wife.
Ike The Terrible
Ike; You had gone to many places and than you came
to Texas. You were not invited, but you decided to come
anyway. A lot of people left before that terrible day. A lot
of us had no choice, but to stay.
Like a thief in the night you arrived, on that 13th of September
of 2008. We didn't sleep that night - everybody was worried. You
came in with force and fury. Soon the lights went out, by morning
you had already done your damage. Millions of people were left
without power.
For some people it was eight days, for others it was more, still others
didn't have power for weeks. But Ike - you didn't care. You came here
to destroy. Many people were without food, ice, or milk for their babies.
Others lost all they had.
In the daytime, when the rains finally stopped, we could see in our areas
the destruction you had left behind, but that was nothing compared to what
you did in Galveston and other towns. What we saw on TV was devastating.
Many lives were lost.
Ike - time has passed and now you are only a bitter memory. We learned
something in these DISASTERS. God can give us plenty, but he can also
take it away. You left us with deep scars, but from this - we will recover.
We are now more united and closer to God.

Note: I wrote this in 2008 when it happened.
It was the first and only Hurricane That I have
ever witnessed.
I Am /A Dandelion
I stem out to a beautiful flower dressed in yellow,
with a milky latex that runs in my veins.
Omitting a fragrant perfume of my own.
As the night falls, I close and slumber till sunrise.
Like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly,
I’m standing tall with downy white feathery fine hair.
As a gentle cool breeze whispers with a kiss,
I surrender my fruit to fall into its hands.
Swept away and drifts like little propellers with the wind,
like a thief in the night whisking them away over long distances
Out to their lovers as they mate with the rich brown soil.

Dandelion late Middle English: from French dent-de-lion, translation of medieval Latin dens leonis ‘lion's tooth’ (because of the jagged shape of the leaves).
