Best Lay It On The Line Poems

The Chance I Didnt Take

Girl I think it’s time
To lay it on the line
And let you know exactly
What’s been on my mind

As I reflect on my regrets
The one that cuts me deepest
Is the one that breaks my soul, the one that broke will
The one that haunts me still

You’re the chance I didn’t take
The dream I failed to chase
It’s the love we’ve never made
That keeps me in this place

Our yesterday’s have turned to years
With every day it gets more clear
I pray it’s not too late, I changed fate with one mistake
You’re the chance I didn’t take

I can’t imagine life without you
Or the heartache I’d go through
If we never would have worked out
Now I pay for my excuse

You’re the chance I didn’t take
The dream I failed to chase
It’s the love we’ve never made
That keeps me in this place

Our yesterday’s have turned to years
With every day it gets more clear
I pray it’s not too late, I changed fate with one mistake
You’re the chance I didn’t take

The only one to ever scare me
I believe is my soulmate
That’s why I’m stuck here with the regret
I’ll have to carry to my grave

You’re the chance I didn’t take
The dream I failed to chase
I changed fate with one mistake
You’re the chance I didn’t take

Be Legit

 No one is real,
We all have a dual face.
  Find someone who can,
Excite your taste.

  People respect money,
Not the person.
  Money can be,
A Beast of Burden.

  The one you love more,
Is the one that hurts you
the most.
  The rest of your life,
You live with her ghost.

  When you're happy,
You enjoy the melody.
Life is full of fun and
Prosperity.

  When you're sad,
You feel the lyrics.
  You get crap from
The critics.

  Patience is hard when
You have nothing.
  Alone with your thoughts,
It is something.

  Check your attitude,
When you have everything.
  It's often assassination,
That kills the king.

  People want good looks,
They don't want good people.
  Most times the intentions
Are mean and evil.

  Failure slaps you out
In the open.
  It floods you with,
Anger and emotion.

  Success hugs you
In private.
  It’s true,
You can't deny it.

  A poor person,
He has no fake friends.
  He has no money,
To give or to spend.

When the time comes,
Own your s___t.
Lay it on the line,
Be legit.

Flashback

I had a flashback once
It tipped the Richter scale
Almost right at nine
It took control of me

Before I knew the war was on
You didn't see my mind
You only heard my fist
Trying to be kind

Help me find my soul
Hylda wants my heart
To hang it on the wall
Help me get it back

I had a flashback once
It took me by surprise
Next thing you were smiling
A sparkle in your eye

Next thing we were dancing
Kissing and romancing
Next thing we were falling
Falling to the sky

Now I'm falling straight into
A streaming fire of blue
Fountain for a flood of passion
Falling hard for you

Was I falling for them
Or falling down into them
Was I falling helplessly
Into a sky of blue

We'll never know
I never dreamed that part
I never dreamed the part about
Your mother and your dad

Next thing we were falling
Falling in and out
You saved me, I was drowning
Shadow of a doubt

Don't forget to breathe
Don't bet on thirteen
Never let it go
Listen to your dream

Lay it on the line
A diamond or a spade
Never let your color
Show another shade

Never let your sorrow
Over take your heart
Dedicate your legend
Rising to the part

Help me get it half way there
And get it half way square
That or get it back to here
And carry on from there

Listen to your mother
Try to find your brother
Try to find your sister
Your children one another

Surpass until they're grown
Children of their own
Character in each
Friendliness to teach

Exceeding expectation
Defeating all demand
Outshine every means of light
A kind and gentle hand

Road Man

all teeth and eyes
the road-man wears diesel and grease
he wears leather and jeans
his is the hard life
but he lives it like no other
the road-man is a mouthful of bullets and bones
and his eyes are dust and gravel
his motorbike's engine growls like a living thing
its pipes shine in the unforgiving sun
it runs the road like lightening
the road-man is a creature of the
high desert road
where dust devils and snakes crawl the
unforgiving landscape
he is a hard man to know
has not much to say
but you will never meet another man
so ready to lay it on the line
so ready to face the burning road
a dying breed

Independence Day

Beachfront condos shrouded in the early mist
of morning. Seagulls hanging on the breeze,
their screeching waking sleepyheads
before their coffee, it's July the 4th,
the holiday is here!

Sailboats daubed in milky opalescence
growing clear, as sunlight nibbles at the sea wall.
Artists set their easels, hot dog vendors
primed and waiting, T-shirt boutiques
ready for the avalanche.

Parking-lots are full, it's getting hot now.
Suntanned beauties modeling string bikinis
scramble for position.
"Let's get the best spot on the beach!"
they cry, toting towels and frisbees to the sand.

Flags and beer are peddled in profusion,
smells of barbecue and pizza fill the air.
Suntan oil for those who need it,
all those fair-skinned redheads seeking
rest and refuge from the blazing sun.

Painters competing for the famed Grand Prize,
trying to catch the essence of the ocean.
Could be the next Monet! Muted pastels
smeared on canvas. Hold on, Claude,
you'd best not give up your day job!

Para-gliders soar in gay abandon,
floating through the sky like eagles hovering
they lay it on the line. You ask me,
it's sheer recklessness,
all those crazy people cheating gravity!

Musicians making ready for the concert,
violins and tubas tuning up.
People find their beach chairs
and get comfortable to listen
to the melodies of vintage Broadway songs.

And then the fireworks - woosh, boom, crackle! -
shock the heavens with their iridescent light.
'The Star-Spangled Banner.' Couples cuddle
up in blankets to watch the rockets
paint the sky 'Red, White and Blue!'

They make their way contented to their cars,
young and old alike loved the festivities.
Stop to get some Rolaids, (too much pizza,
fun and frolic!) but the day will last forever
in their memories.

The Jester

You can't fool the jester
It just can't be done
He knows you think you can
He's got you on the run

Maybe something told him
Something in his heart
It's time for his medicine
Time to play the part

He's got you figured out
He's figured out the gist
He knows without a doubt
Something that you missed

You try to think like him
What would the jester do
What does he always do
What did he do to you

You sneak around, private lines
He'll never even know
The jester has receptors
Everywhere you go

Lay it on the line
You'll never live it down
Lay it at the jester's feet
He'll never be your clown

My, My, My.

Here I stand before you with so much racing through my mind,
You have always been the graceful patient one; knowing I would come in my own time.
So much time I have wasted, with so much I need to say to you,
I know I must have been crazy; not just to face you and be true.
I’m going to lay it on the line, my thoughts and dreams, and my heart and soul.
I’m nervous because I haven’t done this before, and let out the things you will be told.

My thoughts of you are many,
My dreams of us have always been there to,
My heart is yours that is easy,
Our souls become one as I pour mine out to you,
All these things I should have said before, I don’t know why I was afraid.
You have my heart within your hands now, as I give it to you today.

Your eyes they show brilliance and your smile warms me when I am down,
I love the way your hair falls about me; when were close I know my heart’s been found,
When I dream you’re there with your soothing voice, I need to hear every day,
You calm me with your words, when my mind seems to slip away,
My words sometimes are not many, and there are times I act with no thought,
I know I can drive you crazy, but for you my heart has been caught,
There’s the softness in your touch that sends shivers down my spine,
So many feelings flowing through me knowing I am yours and you are mine.

Complicated Love

My life is so complicated,
It feels as if I'm neither loved nor appreciated.
This feeling I have inside of me,
it burns...

To imagine the touch of his soft skin against mine,
It's like I'm running back and forth through time,
'Cause it's never gonna happen again...

To hear his voice whispering in my ear,
It would be as if I'm reliving that one special year...

I'll never forget the words he said to me...

"I Love You, Baby"...

It makes me cry, even thinking of it now,
As if I'm gonna die and won't remember how...

The feelings I have for him will remain the same,
Even though it makes me feel stupid and insane...

I'd give my life for him,
I'd just lay it on the line,

I'd give my life for him,
To let him know the heart that he'll always have is mine

Just to show him...how much I...care...

You'Ve Got Class

Oooh somewhat of a Charles Dickens
Character from your hat to your boots
Well I can tell you're different than most
People these days but hey that's a good
Thing it's got my goat if you know what
I mean, yes you got what it takes, you
Got what it takes, you just seem to radiate
Oh yeah and baby You've Got Class
You’ve got it going on dear freshman
I just gotta ask do you want me 'cuz
I want you whether it's right or wrong
You’ve got me in a state of ummhmmness
Well you've got it going on, you’ve just
Got it going on and I am a gasp at your
Jaw dropping kinda class
Cool, confident and self-assured you
Could charm the pants off of anyone
Anywhere, anytime but you know that
Don’t you well your eyes make that clear
But hey that's a good thing just go ahead
Baby and lay it on the line it's got my goat
Yeah it's got my goat by the throat, it’s
Got me feeling hotter than a pepper sprout
Over you now 'cuz you've just got what it
Takes and you radiate, you just seem to radiate
'Cuz you just got this certain kinda class
Dear freshman and I want you, I want you
Right or wrong you've got me in a state of
ummhmmness well you've got it going on,
You’ve just got it going on and I am a gasp
At your jaw dropping kinda class, damn baby
You've Got Class!

Word Play Lines

My main line muse stepped over a line –
My confuser got confused off line
Rhymes on strike, my pen went dry in a stiff hard line
Thesaurus got clean away flying through the pipeline.

I searched for foot lines on the moon in bluest of blue lines
Then looked around for yards and yards of a water line
At the park dropped a line running through a tag line
Then my hash line ran away again between the lines.

Drank some punch line, giggles burped – crossing the line
Found a lucky cooper penny on the green A line -
Crossed a plot line, story screamed like angry beelines
Out of line couldn’t find all the frayed drag line!

Dinner time, thick beef steaks on the firing line
Front and center, calories feeding me a story line
Smorgasbord of sights and smells lay it on the line
Honeyed, gooey just desserts lead me to some sweet lines.

Went to a bar almost bought all the current date-lines
Hollow words of neck lines – what a bunch of air-lines
Took the bus – had to duck – bruises on my headline
Tripped then fell - almost drown in the bottom line.

Gained some weight – oh, oh, no – now too snug my belt line
A little late –running tardy way behind the time line
Invitation RSVP to conga in the party line
Rows and rows of polka-dots, line up on the dotted line.

Muse returned from her day – fainted on the deadline
Had to duck, words run amuck in the mixed up chorus lines
Told me this was asinine feeding her a landline
Not too late! Get it straight! Balance on the fine line.

I Rather Not Know

I Rather Not Know

I’d hate to think of myself as someone who isn’t in the know,
About things in life that tend to hurt me so.
I rather go about my day seeing only what my eyes want to see,
Rather than this cruel place this world has turned out to be.
Why pick up the newspaper to only be let down,
By all the crime and violence running rapid through this town.
Why turn on the news to hear about another baby left to die,
Found in a trashcan by a teenage mother that was high.
Why at the water cooler do co-worker have to gossip so,
Spreading lies about people that they don’t even know.
Turned on my radio at my desk to try to relax a bit,
On comes a bulletin about another gang drive-by hit.
Get a call on the phone from my wife, who is in tears,
The terrorist alert level had just been raised to add to her fears.
What’s going on in this world, have people stopped caring,
Is bad news the only thing that we are interested in sharing?
As for me, let me say it plain and lay it on the line.
This type of treatment of others is not really worth my time.
So please do not bother me with another line or show,
When it comes to the reality of the day, I truly rather not know.

Constantly

You own my days
You own my nights
Every second every hour
I’m alive

Where you are
I go too
From the second that we met
I’ve been your fool

Is it the same for you
As it is for me
Does your mind take you there
Constantly
Does your mind take you there
Constantly

I’m not ashamed
Of who I am
If you don’t feel the same
I’ll understand

If I get the chance
I won’t let you go
Absence of the heart
Deals a heavy blow

I’ll lay it on the line
In hopes that you will see
My mind takes me there constantly
Yes my mind takes me there constantly

Is it the same for you
As it is for me
Does you happiness also hold some grief
Do you look forward to the days
When we’ll walk eternally
Does your mind take you there
Constantly
Does your mind take you there
Constantly

She owns my days
She owns my nights
Every second every hour
That I’m alive.....

Lay It On the Line

grook

Take honesty; it matters.
Skirting an issue can shape
the truth until it shatters.
Guile provides means of escape.

Candor is what I desire
over cunning craftiness.
How many people will hire
one who’s extremely careless?

Truth in shreds, as I debate
deciding what to do next.
This is one November date
that leaves me more than perplexed.
