I Rather Not Know
I Rather Not Know I’d hate to think of myself as someone who isn’t in the know, About things in life that tend to hurt me so. I rather go about my day seeing only what my eyes want to see, Rather than this cruel place this world has turned out to be. Why pick up the newspaper to only be let down, By all the crime and violence running rapid through this town. Why turn on the news to hear about another baby left to die, Found in a trashcan by a teenage mother that was high. Why at the water cooler do co-worker have to gossip so, Spreading lies about people that they don’t even know. Turned on my radio at my desk to try to relax a bit, On comes a bulletin about another gang drive-by hit. Get a call on the phone from my wife, who is in tears, The terrorist alert level had just been raised to add to her fears. What’s going on in this world, have people stopped caring, Is bad news the only thing that we are interested in sharing? As for me, let me say it plain and lay it on the line. This type of treatment of others is not really worth my time. So please do not bother me with another line or show, When it comes to the reality of the day, I truly rather not know.
