Best In A Word Poems

In a Word

Some words are very ancient,
some words are relatively new
There are words to describe every occasion,
words that aptly characterize me and you
But for the many names given to God we call,
God said He is defined by one word:
God is LOVE
Amen
That says it all

Retire or Re-tire
What’s in a Word?
The Limerick
Written: by Tom Wright
2/28/2016

My wife said our old car we should retire,
So I purchased a new car that she’d admire.
She said with voice shrieking,
It was of tires I was speaking,
Then said now a second job you will require.

What’s In A Word
Humor: by Miracle Man
November 25, 2021

Today, much time is spent on word substituting,
we’re currently being asked to cease using the word looting.
Hoodlum sympathizers have deemed it a racist word,
but to me, looting’s appropriate, and much preferred.

Some waste time lobbying on a better word campaign,
but taking from another what they've labored to obtain.
In every sense of the word you've become a looter,
and must plead your case before some prosecutor.

Over time words evolved and many are now taboo,
and being called white privileged, I find offensive too.
But I tend to agree and, as always, a straight shooter,
smash and grab is more refined than just plain looter.

“Fools live to regret their words,
wise men to regret their silence.”
Will Henry

In a Word

Just in the way one says things ends up setting the tone
With the baggage that brings, more than could be known
Though it's from deep in the heart being too free to reign
Allowing that other instinctive part and thus causing pain

What you wanted to say may have even been appropriate
But in so making your way you soon got caught up in a fit
And other things came to mind and it just went from there
Now you're in a real bind, oh how life always seems unfair

Maybe next time take some advice to train that other part
In who has paid your price and the pure love in His Heart
Momentarily reflect on this and start talking to Him instead
For all the anger will be remiss as His thoughts fill your head

This will only take a minute and saving you so many more
I'm glad you lent me your ear if even to just open that door
For as to what you will find and as to how you will soon feel
For one you'll have peace of mind as the heart begins to heal

Proverbs 15:1
A soft answer turneth away wrath:
but grievous words stir up anger

What's In a Word?

society seems to have lost certain aspects of courtesy
today it's the norm to speak in the language of profanity
n's, b's and h's are the words that people use today
they don't comprehend the negativity in the words that they say

to be polite and mannerly is now a thing of the past
the rap culture mentality has taken over everyday language at last
i understand the need for those artists to express their thoughts
but i can't comprehend why they can't do it
in the proper language that they've been taught

what's in a word?
it's the language that man uses to communicate
it's not what you say but how you say it,
the way that people do relate
if you talk in words that are regarded as being low class
many will perceive
that you have never gotten
the education that others have received
they look at you with contempt
and then become condescending
they look at you as being inferior,
for that is the message you are sending
so be careful of the words that you choose
and the manner in which you speak
for what's in a word and how you use it
determines the level of respect that you seek

Locked Up In a Word Prison

This mind locked into a syllable count
Receiving maxim sentence seventeen
Monoku one liner is this amount
Shakespearean Sonnet it’s revealed in

The Acrostic is vertically straight
Like these prison bars that hold these words
Each line doesn’t have to rhyme to create
It would be smart to use lots of new verbs

Someday using Free Verse setting it free
No set rules follow from these prison walls
A party will be singing jubilee
The key to sonnet this my mind recalls

abab, cdcd, efef, gg in memory
Waiting for the Warden to pardon me

Hidden In a Word

in the beginning,
there was a cathedral
of silence so long,
I could discern blood
congealing,
my face had cracked
in a mirror of denial

and as the horror
of a putrid filth
unmasked in its entirety

I hid,in my castle of refusal
and it all lay in silent morning…
as pieces of self fell away,
splintering to pierce the dawn

with a roar of upheaval
from Africa’s shores,
a keen of mortality
shatters eardrums

continents away
a campaign continues

still,
I run away
into smaller and smaller
rolls of my ballpoint,
consumed in the ink

words flow unchecked as
veins bulge with effortless zeal

All blessing the written word,
as each cornerstone
reinforces my castle walls

             In A Word

Writing this poem in the wee early 'morn.
Oh, so joyfully grateful,I was ever born!
Rich is my life with blessed-family and great friends.
Decidedly, positive, a Deist, planning on joy to my very end!

Alas, no words can I on
this parchment write,
Just meaningless drivel
falls from my pen!
And I, miserable poet,
Shouts to my Muses, three,
Not how, but when, shall
This madness cease!
