Best Impressing Poems
oh. dear. gawd.
another patently
meaningless
crush of stanzas, jam-packed with
adjectives and color words
straight from Roget's,
strung together in
strands of misuse and
improper context -
syntax-scraping adverbs and
prepositions dangled
at inhuman angles,
rushing in torrents to a
head-scratching conclusion that
leaves lips numb and dripping clear liquid,
fingers combing deep the
strands to tear out in horrid disbelief,
jaws left agape in
utter confusion and
hopelessness ...
it all settles like
brick-heavy clay in
the gut, that this vile destruction of
the English language and
its artistic forms -
this uneducated and
brutal bludgeoning of phraseology -
words replaced
willy-nilly by thesaurus-crazed maniacs,
(all for the sake of
impressing the masses
who don't know the difference),
is garnering dozens of
enthralled ignorance-is-bliss
comments, and placing
first in
contest-after-contest!!
how could any sane,
serious weaver of words
NOT want to blow
their freaking brains out?!?
the coronavirus pandemic
has been NOTHING
compared to the sickening
misuse of words
that flows on-and-on from public
poetry sites in crushing
waves of feigned
eloquence and verbal vivisection ...
could it be, perhaps,
that the circle writing ISN'T inane,
but rather a strangled striving
for the breadth of
non-linear orthography??
welcome to the
ultimate zero sum game -
the mangy monkey in the monkey
puzzle tree,
Schroedinger's kitty,
skinned and nailed to the barn house ...
fan-freaking-tastic ...
let's kill this clairvoyant clown,
quickly ... quietly ...
cuz ...
it. never. ends.

Even as a child, how I used to enjoy
A simple stroll through the woods
When innocent instincts ruled my heart
And ran after every call from the wild or bush,
Mesmerized by the warbling of the cuckoo and the thrush.
It was a time when every rainbow and every peacock feather
Ignited endless curiosity in me
And colored my imagination wild.
How with my friends, I ran to the beautiful seaside
Watching the wild waves’ fury and cooled by the kiss of spray
Feeling the sea foam and the sand under our bare feet
With what delirious joy we watched at night
A hundred fireflies dancing around
Wondering if they were stars, fallen from heaven.
Like the sweeping breeze, we ran over grassy slopes,
Looking for the bleating lamb
Singing in chorus, ‘Mary had a little lamb’
They were all spontaneous acts like breathing,
With no interest in gaining anything or impressing anybody
But just the simple signs of being alive,
And a way of burning the exuberant energy that overwhelmed us.
I was never called a poet or an artist then—
Not worried about rehearsing or perfecting my art.
I was just an observer, inhaling all the beauty
With a fluid spontaneity, characteristic of childhood

The Perfect Story!!
.
ingredients.... How to write the perfect story?
Tonight I close my eyes, enter the realm in another form
Dig deep inside to find the ingredients for you~ "the Perfect Story?"
Find the enigma behind every expression of beauty
Locate the inspiration of the world your heart seeks
Take your mind deep and far beyond every star
Position my thought with the best ingredients,
that afflicts the unique worlds only I experienced
***
***
First add the ingredient of self-attitude. ( POSITIVE )
Next unlock the skills that hold the masterpiece
Exercise the role of timing, when setting the perfect line
Find a sidekick to help intervene every step without falling
Meet and bond with every word that makes the story unique
Feel the motion in both hands, while perceiving every step
Show off the ability that one can see more than others
Provide the details that feed the readers appetite
Hold a form of originality, impressing the readers imagination
Last create a mystery like no other, evoke the reads curiosity
"TO WANT MORE!"
Wait a second, you asked for A Story,
Not, my inventory!!!

"The Conversation: I Found God, so now what?"
the ugliest thing happened here today,
I could turn away and write of unicorns
but I’ll write about beauty found in the ugliness anyway,
like how a mother said goodbye running out of words
throwing her child into the arms of strangers,
so the child might have a better turn
but I’ll write about beauty found in the ugliness anyway,
of Love in all its strangeness, the mother bleeding heart lost
throwing her child into the arms of strangers,
so the child might have a better turn
the gift of life a mother gives a child, that comes with all its strangeness
of Love in all its strangeness, the mother bleeding heart lost
imprints one day we’ll be together again, impressing my darling Love is never lost
the gift of life a mother gives a child, that comes with all its strangeness
the daughter stands tall talking to her mirror, her reflections become contagious
Imprints one day we’ll be together again, impressing my darling Love is never lost
and you would know me anywhere for you are the Goddess I love more than God
the daughter stands tall talking to Her mirror, Her reflections become contagious
the mother draws Her nearer and whispers to Her child throughout Her ages
and you would know me anywhere for you are the Goddess I love more than God
the runes of life are lost in tears and found on fire deep living in Heaven’s pages
the mother draws Her nearer and whispers to Her throughout Her ages
you will feel me in your heart, for there you’ll hear my voice so much clearer
the runes of life are lost in tears and found on fire deep living in Heaven’s pages
You are me and I am in You in all your deepest stages
you will feel me in your heart, for there you’ll hear my voice so much clearer
the words like braille that stroke the heart where Love like God does dwell
found on fire deep living in Heaven’s pages

I came across a Jumpher
A jumphin’ up at me.
It wasn’t very springy
As far as i could see.
It tried to do someothersault,
Impressing like a tree,
But landed with a thumping thud
And hurt his only knee.
‘How come you like to ravel so?’
I bellied like a navel,
While on the other hand i plied
Some custard on a table.
‘I’m only giving all I’ve got-
A hundred miles an hour.
But if you take it at a trot
It soaks you with a shower.
‘I see,’ i said, came out my head,
And nodding fully clothed,
I asked if he’d seen Ninnynook?
A nose that knows no prose.
‘I likes to smell his gravy soup.’
He jumphered like a sweater,
Then driving like a five wheeled horse
Left home wrapped in a letter.
‘Good luck, you leaphing lunging loon.’
I mouthed in Granny’s gums
Then smiling like a holiday
I went to see my chums.

On a day where
the rain
attacks the windshield
only to be brushed away
like an ill-timed rebuke,
yet caresses my face
sweeping back my hair to unveil
the intensity of longing caused by you
do you think of me?
My entire being sings for you-
My life resonates in your echoes.
I will wait for you...
will you ever come to me?
I dreamed last night of a kiss-
that you leaned down to me
and covered my mouth with yours,
wholly bound to me
as if your tongue wrapped around mine
joined us more than in a marriage
any lovers are.
Do you dream of me?
My entire being sings for you-
My life resonates in you echoes.
I will wait for you...
will you ever come to me?
When I first said your name
it began to grow in me.
On my breath
I hear the whisper of the words.
My heart beats to the rhythm
of the syllables immortally
impressing themselves on my pulse-
in my blood.
Do you long for me?
My entire being sings for you-
My life resonates in you echoes.
I will wait for you...
will you ever come to me?

Sam took to the stage, limping with a leg brace
And more than a mere trace of fear on his face
The humorous speech competition was on
He’d made it to finals, prior contests he’d won
Sam’s lifelong bout with muscular dystrophy
Generated sadness and much empathy
He shook and stammered as he started to speak
Competitors thought his composure he’d breach
“Stage fright is shared by many,” the boy explained
And as he began, his eye contact seemed strained
We wanted to rush to his side, offer aid
Little did we know Sam’s point was being made
He’d soon have us laughing at the “crutches” WE use
To gain courage when stage fright ensues
“I’m picturing you all naked,” he laughed, smiled
Soon his sharp wit had us rolling in the aisle
His strength and confidence built fast as he spoke
Sam finished up with a memorable poke:
“You thought I would fail; I read it in your eyes
Seeing only my handicap, I realize.
Those who can’t see beyond disabilities
Are mired in self fear; YOU have MY sympathy.”
Out of four thousand entrants, Sam took first place
Impressing us all with his wisdom and grace
Today Sam coaches a college debate team
Having mastered the art of building esteem

I missed the meals mama used to cook
Her recipes were not in the cookery book
Mama was just more of a kitchen queen
She's the best cook we have ever seen
Mama's Fufu with Chicken soup was my best
The manner she cooked it was better than the rest
Her meals always nourished the spirit
As they filled the stomach every minute
After school she served us with spaghetti
Mama's garnish as elegant as bugatti
She'll serve with eggs and some salad dressing
It was a special kind of love, very impressing
Oh my gosh! Her meals saved me countless times
I cannot really explain that in poetic lines
Family dinner was a time of joy and conversation
A time of fellowship, laughter and celebrations
She sprinkled all her meals with goodness
And carefully spooned cinnamon for sweetness
Making dessert, bread and cakes for birthdays
Chicken sauce and pineapple drinks on holidays
Never was there a meal like her morning prayers
She'll spend early hours of her days in prayers
Her heart was full of love, peace and joy
She was our lamp, like a light in the city of Troy

Expectations
Triumphant note of a magnolia's pearly white
Wakens the sleeping ground,
Beautiful ballerina
Impressing all around.
Herself the spotlight.
Brave fragile snowdrops light the woods' darkness,
Fluting, keen, white and green
Like panpipes in Peruvian mountain scene
Banishing starkness.
Each year we come to see this lovely sight....
Now, Spring's within our scope,
From Winter's chains we're free.
Like children now, our hearts are light:
Pilgrims and Druids we,
Embracing light and hope!

Yikes, all I feel is attitude with zero Christmas mood.
Blessed am I for Jesus’ birth and sacrificial rood,
but Santa and his deer had best just skip our roof
or I might very well rage out on every furry hoof.
All my Christmas feel of unique is long past its peak.
Do color me aloof, uncouth if you choose, or bleak,
but my entire entirety still feels yuletide fatigue
from the Christmas I’m sure we just had last week.
Makes no mind to me if stuffing that gleeful day
stirs relatives into a finger wagging, yapping say.
I’ll show critics red and green done fist proper,
Christmas-awe land them on their tree topper.
I would rather hang with the Grinch and Scrooge
than endure another round of Santa subterfuge.
Aint no way I’m buying, baking, craftily stressing
while wrapping, decorating or glee impressing.
Ho, Ho, Ho can ever so jolly just blow, blow, blow.
I flat out dare Santa to plan to show, show, show.

WAS THAT A HUMMINGBIRD I HEARD HUMMING?
Have you ever watched a hummingbird hover?
Well he does that to impress his lover
There are many ways to impress someone
And every so often it’s could take a gun
I’ll tell you one way not to let love rule
And this, my friend, comes directly from a phool
One way not to impress a woman is to show her the tracks on your arm
Oh will she be impressed by your charisma and charm
Another way to avoid impressing a lovely you’ve seen
Appear untidy, unkempt and unilaterally unclean
Tell her you shower at least once a year
And she’ll be gone before you can say “you are lovely my dear”
So if you care to entice and enhance a beauty
ignore all this advise on etiquette as if it were your duty
And I tell you now the two of you won’t ever mesh
So it’s between the hover of a lover or a needle piercing your flesh

Dolphins
Watch the aquatic mammals reigning warm waters
Riding ocean waves zestfully flexing playful behavior
Jumping high in air performing acrobatic maneuvers
Synchronizing movements impressing fond watchers.
Be dazzled by their graceful moves peeking up for air
Turning around buoyantly raising caudal fins in pairs
Diving elongated noses under great depths of ocean
Resurfacing with gallant jumps stirring up emotions.
See a dolphin show joyous amid human interactions
As gray mammals emerge like torpedoes in action
Looping in air artfully, bowing to cheerful reactions
Dancing on water regally evoking rush of passions,
Admire as they toss a ball delighting in jovial acts
Walking like penguins to rise and kiss human hands
Splashing water impishly they rejoice as kids laugh
Dipping under water to perform upside down dance,
Amazing to see how they obey human instructions
Jumping through hoops upon listening to directions
Adorning choreographic motion for grateful crowds
Waving hello intelligently as people loudly applaud,
Don't miss gracious goodbye as they retreat in style
Being aware children are grinning with lofty smiles
Saying thanks, rising high-up to accept their reward
Brilliantly they pause to acknowledge the applause.

"Spring drew on...and a greenness grew over those brown beds, which, freshening daily, suggested the thought that Hope traversed them at night, and left each morning brighter traces of her steps." —Charlotte Brontë
Spring heeds His voice,
Prepared to rejoice…
Spring showers wash away each fear,
Singing light across the new year…
Spring invites souls to the blessing,
As sun sings hope so impressing…
Spring whispers of His amazing,
Silencing the past, always praising…
Spring knows the time has come,
The dark of winter will succumb…
Spring risks the disgrace, the shame,
As the wind begins to play its game…
Spring, mostly alive with pleasure,
Restores the spirit’s joy, a treasure…
Spring erases all the tired,
Bringing new, it is inspired…
Spring’s smile, it is assured,
Brings peace that has endured…
Spring listens to His command,
Spreading glory, so great and grand…
Spring is God’s grace poured out,
On the heart who refuses to doubt!

All of our righteousness are as filthy rags
I do believe that's what I read
We all fall short of the glory of God
I know that's what my bible said.
But there are some of you that don't have a clue
You think yourselves an exception to these rules
You think you are wise and perfect in God's eyes
When in reality, you're nothing but fools.
You judge all of mankind making yourself blind
To your own faults, or you pretend to have none
You curse all men who are submerged in their sin
While forgetting the things that you've done.
You're in church every week and when its your turn to speak
You speak loudly, for you love to be heard
You should keep it in mind while impressing mankind
That your actions speak louder than your words.
It is church goers like you when you do what you do
That causes God to quickly take offense
You skillfully dodge all blame and hide in God's name
However, there are many ways to straddle the fence.
Now don't get me wrong for I do not go along
With the things that men are doing today
But I can't throw a stone when I've many faults of my own
I just tell people about God the right way.
You and your kind who are so stupid and blind
Build yourselves up by knocking others down
Because they're not like you and don't do what you do
You say that they're lost, and will not get a crown.
You sit in high places and walk about with two faces
Seeming godly, if only in your eyes
You tell your sisters and brothers that they're better than others
But I know that this is nothing but lies.
Think what you may but come judgement day
When the Master has completed His reaping
You'll stand in His glory and we'll know the true story
For He'll reveil the secrets that you're keeping.
When God sees your mess He will not be impressed
By what you have or what you think you may know
He'll take just one look, see your name not in His book
Then it will be off to hell you will go.
You could change this sad ending if you stopped your pretending
To be perfect and all holier than thou
Stop hiding your evil ways and do as God says
Then you'll be saved, but the time is right now.

At the glassy gate, I wait for you
adding cherry between breaths
adding robes to your soft name
ushering the syllables through my warm mouth
echoing like the sight of a star
on my heart, your name is woven and sewn
like the stitching in my baby blanket
and the baby hands that find your beating chest
I am bound to you
and you, to my gates
But then,
you see the blood on my posts
and then,
my eyes stern and welled,
fixed like the sun, you spin
as night hunkers over you
like a broad toothy uncle
pulling you aside, arms slung like sandbags
impressing you with fools gold
teaching you to gawk, painting me a circus
causing you not to see me,
hiding my heart beneath my chest
and this smooth skin, my red wine gates…
And no matter how I call, the tracks will lay, the wheels will fall
I would cry but it’s too late… the station’s gone…
You missed me love,
you missed me…
