Premium Member Goodbyes

Ears pricked at car door closing in the street,
and focussed on the footsteps through the gate
she stepped into the hall, unsteady feet
they bounded forward, welcome couldn't wait.
Two forty pounds of fur, and sixteen legs,
four eager snouts and tongues shot through the air
her hands held up fruitlessly as she begged,
they brought her down, smothered her face and hair.
A canine/human ball rolled on the floor
propelled by laughter, barks and sudden shrieks
of love and longing, bottled up before
the time has come to leave, and no-one speaks.
Chorus of barking, followed by the whines
the front door closing for the final time.

R.i.P Angela Miles, passed away today but was allowed home
to see her Huskies last week for a couple of hours.

Premium Member Dharma (Etheree)

One
little
morning peep
she would speak to
greet my day, my sweet
African Grey . . . She was
my friend, my confidante. I
bottle fed my baby bird and . . . .
we would sing. Such joy she brought me in
her sweet way. My precious friend died today.

Note:
***My daughter lives alone with her two pet Siberian Huskies
and her 2 and half month old African Grey Parrot she named
Dharma. Jennifer called me this morning at 5am crying to tell
me that her little bird died at the Vets. I wrote this Etheree in
her honor.

Eskimo Dream

Eskimo Dream

Eskimos know 68 shades of snow
They count every flake
Green blue ones fill children with delight
Parents frozen like the dim light of day
Wait with edges of a knife for prey
They dare not move during the hunt for food
Faces etched like leather on fierce weather
In calmer times they sing
Pound igloos into shape before the pending storm
Mukluks on their children’s feet are old and worn
But keeps them warm on moonless nights
Against all odds for life
They hold together chanting on the wind
Stretching across all time and land
Singing about their past and colder weather
And yes, about the color white
Sentry huskies sway left to right in fear
And think of caribou
Soon the ice will cover everything
Settled in the deep
The people sleep
And dream of whale bones by the glacier sea

Premium Member A Caring Heart

Our love for Huskies, led us to meet.
Maybe it was meant to be.
After our own kind of meet and greet,
There was a connection, between you and me.

The more that I got to know you,
I knew that I had found a friend.
Someone who was honest and true.
Firm in your beliefs, but you can also bend.

You are giving, with a caring heart.
Sensitive, you acknowledge that fact.
You can cope without falling apart.
You are you, without putting on an act.

We talk about so many things.
You don't hold anything back.
Your experience and wisdom brings,
good advice, something you never lack.

Our friendship, has become part of me.
It has grown stronger over time.
I hope that you are able to see.
I am grateful that you are a friend of mine.

With love, I write these words for you,
They are sincere, and from within.
Sometimes unspoken, but nevertheless true.
What a wonderful friend you have been.

Premium Member What I Found In My Refrigerator

A Ziplock bag of cut-up hot dogs, treats for my daughter's Huskies
Two gallon jugs of 1% milk, both nearly empty
Three bottles of dressing, ranch from 2007
Leftover spinach salad that looks a bit ashen
Syrup: chocolate, blueberry, and pancake
Raisins and nuts for our Christmas fruitcake
Yesterday's dessert- Apple Brown Betty
Cold, cooked spaghetti
Five types of cheese: cottage, American, cheddar, Swiss and cream
Boiled eggs and beer brats- a Friday night dream!

Huskies

If your think of getting a huskies you better think again
because huskies get hair in your mouth and they get wet again an again
They moult every winter and it gets on your nerves
Because fluff gets stuck on your clothes and in your hair

But the good things about huskies bet the bad
Because there huggable loveable and fluffy
And if you put that together

YOU MAKE MANS BEST FRIEND!!!!!!!!!

So if you think the good things bet the bad like me

Premium Member Walk In the Park

WALK IN THE PARK

a lovely late afternoon
sun and shade at eighty
perfect degrees

my toes curl up inside
my sneakers, not
in shape for this season
of walking

surprised to see
a baby bump
bopping along
with expectant runner

i walk steadily toward the wooden bridge,
cross over the creek,
take a little dirt path,
loop back

as i cross the green grass
a huge American crow, leaves
his perch
with a snack

as long as it’s not me
i’m okay
a little too close for comfort

‘he’s the alpha...he’s the alpha!’
i have no illusions, i
tread lightly
not meeting his eyes

keeping mine on the trail
and my trek continues
without peril

i round the path
where a lady sits
with her two huskies
under a tree

i say hello to several walkers
the general
“nice weather we’re having”

one lady keeps to herself
to her cell i should say
but that’s the prerogative
of the introvert
and shy

we have gone around a couple times
passing face to face
so i finally have to ask
the pregnant lady
and she pauses
perhaps
prepared with an answer

“so i just have to ask, how far
along are you?”

she tells me 39 weeks
says it’s any day

i give a warm blessing
and i head for the car

thanking God
for this early Autumn day
spent with strangers
in the park

Trapper Dan's Mammoth, Part Ii

II.
Through long hills and dense forest,
Slocumb’s dogs pulled the sleigh.
Faint traces of Red Billing’s trail
guided Dan along the way.

He found the frozen Indian,
torn apart by many scavengers.
He said then a silent prayer,
since he couldn’t bury him in frozen dirt.

Another day of searching long,
and by a stream he found, at last,
a small gap in a long ridge,
he stood before the small pass.

It was a very narrow route,
quite easy for a man to miss,
shrouded by a forest of spruce
and the weight of clinging mists.

He worked through the route slowly,
moving the dogs around boulders.
Into a long and narrow valley,
Dan and his huskies soldiered.

The valley seemed like any other,
as he moved slowly through the glades,
with only the sound of the runners
breaking the silence in any way.

He came into a meadowed spot,
on the south side of a ledge.
One hundred feet it fell away,
to a churning river that leapt its bed.

As he looked down a cracking sound
arose from the woods' far side.
Then a piercing wail erupted loud,
echoing both far and wide.

A massive red-brown head emerged,
then a body impossible large!
Huge tusks spiraled towards him,
and the great beast launched a charge.

Dan froze in place, not believing
that an elephant could live in snow.
No wait—a mammoth! That was what
stood faced before him as a foe.

Dan grabbed his trusty Winchester
and dove away from the sled.
The mammoth speared it swiftly,
and both the dogs and sled lifted.

With a toss of its huge head,
dogs and sled flew off the ledge.
Enraged, Dan let go with him gun,
seven rounds in the beast’s head.

But then to his great horror,
the mammoth turned to him.
Bloodied, but not badly hurt,
with a trumpet, it came charging…

Premium Member Cock-A-Doodle-Dont

So, would you tell me Sir, what can’t a labradoodle do
You’ll never hear a labradoodle Cock-a-doodle-do
Neither will a wallaby or skippy kangaroo
Nor anything not chicken, and not a cockatoo

Huskies and Alsatians, they don’t figure in equations
You’ll never see them mouthing off at the United Nations
Or acting as the acting head of covert operations
Though they might do a better job if aided by Dalmatians

So why is it that all the news, whichever news you view
Shows Downing Street or Washington without further ado
Where some bloke with a flag behind him speaks at me and you
But when I listen all I hear is Cock-a-doodle-do

A Winters Tale

A chill wind blows..
            Cutting thro our bones...
            We shake and quiver....
            Even huskies stand and shiver....
            We huddle in the corners...
            Our heads are cold..
            Freezing cold...
            My thumbs are turning red...
            Our feet are numb...
            Are they dead?....
            That chill wind blows...
            showers us with stiffness...
            Our heads and bodies..
            Useless....
            Freezing standing still...
            No will...........
            That cold will kill....
            Our teeth are chattering...
            Rattling...
            My nose is turning blue...
            Our cheeks are reddened..
            Looking sore...
            Lips are soft no more...
            So chaffed and blistered..
            So very..
            very sore...
            The iceman comes and strips
            us to the bone....
            So chilled.....
            That numbing coldness...
You are no friend of mine...

Premium Member If All My Wishes Came True

If all my wishes came true I would be driving a fire truck around town, blowing the sirens.
I would save people’s lives, stop child abuse, and build up bullies, so they could love themselves.

If all my wishes came true, I would live with two hundred and twelve dogs, mostly huskies.
And build a cat tower from here to heaven, so the heaven cats and the earth cats could play together.

If all my wishes came true I would build creative centers in the worst places in the cities,
And the people would come and eat pizza for free, and create masterpieces with their laughing children.

If all my wishes came true, everyone would have a house, clothes, and a lovely marigold-filled garden.
In every country in every universe there would be hope, resiliency, love, kindness, and synergy.

The world would be such a delightful place to live, there would be zero suicides and zero homicides.
The policemen would be around though, so they could wear their badges, and run community gardens.

If all my wishes came true, the world would be such a wonderful place to be, that heaven would smile.
If all my wishes came true, your wishes would also come true, and your neighbors, and mine.
