Here Today Gone Tomorrow

I knew one day you'd spread your wings you'd take my heart when you cut our strings through the years Id daydream alot, worried about that day then I'd think to myself "She's a well rounded girl with brains to boot, eh she'll be okay" Now it's all changed as that day is here the anxiety of a loss is what i fear With tears in our eyes you tell me "don't cry, I've groomed my feathers so I'll fly really high As i watch her wings spread far and wide the metaphoric example of a future so bright I swallow the knot that is in my throat as i watch her take off and i feel life broke True to you my beautiful daughter my smile came back within the hour I picked up the phone to hear your voice as you go on and on with your girlie stories These silly moments i've come to cherrish no matter your age you will always be mom's baby

Reflection

Take a deep breath of air
Look into the arc of the sun
Today we are full of life
Who knows what the morrow brings

Seasons come and seasons go
Summer rains and winter snows

Past memories engulf our mind
Thoughts of yesteryear left behind
We progress with each new day
Creating new moments to hide away

Seasons come and seasons go
Summer rains and winter snows

We can live in the present or past
Just remember life moves on fast
Life comes with no guarantee
Here today, gone tomorrow
Then life is but a distant memory.

Ode To Lilies

"O Yellow Lily! You smilingly bloom
Early in the morning in my terrace garden,
In a jiffy, you take away all gloom,
Tell me, in front of you, can any heart harden?"
"O White Lily! What makes your face to brighter shine?
What do you nod at behind my kitchen window?
How do you dress so beautifully every morn?
Lovely your visage, each detail crafted so fine,
My heartbeat, seeing you, reaches a crescendo,
I write to thank you, my heart's with happiness torn."

"O poet! I bloom where God has placed me,
Bursting at crack of dawn, just as He tells me to,
If on seeing me, your gloom turns to glee,
That's all His doing, I'm just a lily for you."
"O dear friend! I've learned to enjoy my life, it's short,
To God, my Creator, I'm nodding back my thanks,
For He clothes me majestic, though I'm mere flora,
Here today, gone tomorrow, I bud to exhort -
Live without worries, He'll provide from His rich banks,
Thank God if you would, shine for Him each aurora."

Even the lovely lilies of the field
Remember to praise God, how then can I forget?
As long as I live, my lips can't be sealed,
Great lessons I have learnt from these lilies I met.

The life you have

What should I write on Thanksgiving Day?
I don't think I will write about Thanksgiving
But I will write about a heart not be thankful
When you look around you
And you don't see what you should be thankful for
Are you sure about that?
Are you sure that the life you have is your own?
Are you sure that everything around you is your own doing?
Are you sure you can claim whatever it is
and not be afraid that you would not do the Giver justice?
Before you go on your own dandy self
ask yourself "how did I get here?"
Did I come by accident or in a dream
Or did you come because of other people put you here?
For example, your parents
If it wasn't for them, you wouldn't be here
Your teachers and everyone that has ever imparted it to you
Your fellow human beings
If it wasn't for them, you would be in a life of confinement, solitary
You would have no one to talk to
Your mind would shrivel up with nowhere expanding
Your companion and the persons you are close to
You would have no one to confide to
and keep you accountable and grounded
Your feet would be in the air
Because that is where you will land - on your bottom
You would have nothing
Because everything is made by God
- through the people like you and me
Don't discard what God did not discard
Don't be so quick to throw everything away
Here today, gone tomorrow
The life we have is not our own
You heard them say
But do you believe it?
Do you think you can last a thousand years?
Do you think you can outrun others
with no heed of a higher power
who can make or break you?
Do you live what you sow?
Or are things all just random?
There is a higher being
And He is God
Give thanks to the Man
even though you know it not
Give thanks to the teachers
even though you learned it not
as you keep learning
Give thanks to the man downstairs
who delivered you flower
Ahh who may that be?
Give thanks to the schoolgirl
who made your day shine and bright
Give thanks to your spirit man
who keeps you out of trouble
Deliver deliver
And never stop deliver
You are here today
And that is a difference
Let's make it worthwhile
And deliver your mark
Shoot

What do You Hear

I took my students outside
Told them to be still
They looked at me in wonder
Outside of the classroom
What was teacher up to this time?
I whispered….
“What do you hear?”
The booming of the cicadas
In the pine trees on campus
Drowned everything else out
They smiled….

“Write….write about the sounds you hear
Nature has a voice
What does it tell you?
How does it make you feel?”

Today, as I lie on my living room couch
Laptop on belly
In my own world of words
I look out the window
To a over towering pine tree
My little Africa, I’ve called it
The branches curve like the western side
Of that continent
The tree is ALIVE
Little cicadas….irrespective of size
Boom a symphony
Dying to be heard
The rhythm of summer
 Maddening chorus
Made by body vibrations
Part of the mystical magic
Of the pine scented trees that
Surround my home

I too need to be heard
For some…the sound will be monotonous
For others…a pulsating melody of a body, a mind set in motion
By dreams, desires, wants, hopes, expectations
By LIFE

A short life span has the cicada….
I, too, am here today, gone tomorrow
But I will not be silent
You may like the “music” I make
Think it heavenly
Soothing
Lulling
Enough to make you dream sweet dreams
Or
You may find it aggravating
Bothersome
Vulgar and loud
Whatever the case may be
That’s me….
Singing in the tree of life
Singing because I know
I too will have to go
But you cannot silence my voice
I sing for me…
I sing for you…
I sing for anyone willing to hear
The vibrations of my soul
I sing because....
I'm dying to be heard
I sing because
Simply because....
 I’m ALIVE…

TIES THAT BIND

YOU'VE GOT TO BE MISTAKEN, YOU MUST BE WRONG!!!
I cried so hard, for so long
Only seven,
I’m too young to be an orphan
I remember it, as if it were like yesterday
When they took me down to the parlor
To identify my parents’ bodies

Here today, gone tomorrow
Less good than bad examples I did follow
No someone in my life to give me unconditional care
Until he came along, such a dear
But like all the others, expectations he had
And as would a horror movie, it all went bad

PUSH!!!
It’s as if I was looking down on my body
Was that my imagination or the nurse screaming at me
More miraculous things have been known to happen
As I slowly drift back to reality
Is that a baby, whose is he?

HAPPY TWENTIETH!!! They shouted
Another birthday another year
Being a single mother has its wear and tear
Days turn into weeks, then into months and years
As I watched my restless juvenile, turn my aspirations into fears

GET OUT OF MY HOUSE, YOU ARROGANT FOOL!!!
The cops were here again today,
I thought you were in school
I’m tired of them always, giving me the third degree
I’ll rather get rid of you
Than you causing the death of me.

So with the trials of passing times
Her health begins to fade
But she could not forget about him
Because he was her child
And he will always be a part of her
Body, soul and mind

LIFE COMMODITIES, KEEPSAKES

LIFE’S COMMODITIES ©

Nails and screws ‘mate’ together
But nails puncture tires when misdirected
Another’s love loss is another’s gain
Love bites break hearts into little pieces
Commodities here today, gone tomorrow
Replaceable parts are ‘outnumbered’ one to none
Do or die in the here/after--- ‘suicide’
Life will rot to its very core
Thrown aside ‘punted’ fore-ever more
Rebirthed and planted it will grow big
And perhaps will be saved for another year’s commodity.

KEEPSAKES ©

Fishwife’s tales
Poppy dog tails
Fairies in storied ‘lore’
Fly and gad about no more
Lengths of twine saved thrice
Wrap on today’s keepsakes!

Treasures are memories held
In minds, hearts and pretty boxes
Brought out to remind once again
Keepsakes of puppy dog tails and fairy lore.

Respect Your Elders

Here today; gone tomorrow
In a blink of an eye there could be great sorrow
Jesting no more, just past memories
Kindnesses give always, even if you disagree

Embrace them as if there’s no tomorrow

Shape Of The Nation

Shape Of The Nation (an oval precaution)

News outlets draw the line at racism
Pencil gray, color blind and crayons ready
Fantasies replace triangles, circles and square deals

Pentagons, hexagons, octagons where born to serve
Here today gone tomorrow with the curve
Will never shape up to political correctness
Or move into the oval office in any way shape or form

The people saw dangling chads in Florida
Hanging like spots before their eyes
Circular, uncounted votes remembered
Dots drop like spots before their eyes
May have to be recounted once again this November

News paper lines run up and down with lies
This election season is no less political
Etched like Escher paintings
Stairs that go up and down for no reason

There are 2 parallel lines aligned side by side
Redundant on the horizon as simple black stripes
With a vertical one joined at the middle
At the center of attention to form an “H”
For Hilary rising
A female that Mr. "T" calls crooked

Emails can not be erased by media twists
Even with BleachBit
It is a simple precaution though
To roll into the oval office

A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE

“A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE”

“America— fill me in on your new vision
Wake me up from indecision
Help me trust your mighty wisdom
Show me how to question questions, and lead the way to contemplation

Uncertainty about your future is like opening your eyes wide in the dark
Closing them hard and opening them again—
To be blinded by sparkling silver dots
When you refocus, you are blind again, but at least, somehow, briefly you saw the light

The difficulty in the pursuit of changing life circumstances, involves an honest and real look at the Wild Side of our nature-
The ability to throw caution to the wind with no guilt -- no regrets

Most of life has been written, talked and acted out and then filled with doubt
Grass seems greener over here—even the fog of it all keeps me clear

Perhaps the conspiracy to explain the success of this culture is… immediacy
Here today, gone tomorrow because yesterday’s following was nothing more than an implement--

Social rituals seldom involve the re-hashing of clichés or approval addiction motivation
This little ‘pit-stop’ we call life—that we take so seriously- worry about…
is nothing but a an opportunity to enjoy our adventures in a limited time frame compared to promised
Eternity

It is only in the appreciation of passion and taking steps of Faith that we can truly say:

WE HAVE WALKED ON THE WILD SIDE

Here Today Gone Tomorrow

Here today gone tomorrow
All that love she simply borrowed
Took everything I ever had
Left me crying made me sad

Never bothered to say goodbye
Didn’t see the tears in my eyes
Just walked right out on a hot July
In New York City I wondered why

She took away the love I knew
Didn’t care if my heart was bruised
Found somebody else to kiss and love
She said she had her mind made up

Here today gone tomorrow
All that love she simply borrowed
She took everything that I ever had
Left me crying made me sad

Well I don’t expect her back again
Not now she’s found another friend
Things between us can’t get worse
I need some time to heal the hurt

Here today gone tomorrow
All that love she simply borrowed
She took everything that I ever had
Left me crying made me sad

HERE TODAY GONE TOMORROW

HERE TODAY GONE TOMORROW

Here today gone tomorrow
Thanksgiving and Christmas Day
We forget I hate to say

Colors – uplifting music
The great festival of friends
Hosannas joy without end

Chapel bells on Christmas Eve
Yearly drive to see the lights
Giant tree oh what a sight!

Amazing special passions
Filled with hope and constancy
Resolutions don’t you see

Quite a metamorphosis
Amnesia like a shroud
Head in light above gray clouds

Five great weeks of fantasy
A magic spell to be sure
Past new year though all’s a blur

Bloody Earth with many wars
World full of empty feelings
D.C. lies shady dealings

Lest we forget peaceful days
The season’s magic feeling
I’ve a wish am appealing

Caught up in reality -
Near forgot those hours of bliss -
Take the time to reminisce

A DUST IN TIME

Life is nothing but a dust in time
You can let it pile up and cover everything you think you know
You can clean it off and let it flow freely in the air
You could believe it to be a nuisance and let it consume all you fear
You could chase it down relentlessly
You could let it form into a giant ball of missed opportunities and sweep it aside
You could cough it up day after day with no relief
You could just let it be and see how much that bottle can hold
Whatever you choose
Remember time is nothing but a dusting of dirt
Here today Gone tomorrow

Here today gone tomorrow

If i died today would you remember me tomorrow?
Would your heart be left in constant sorrow?
Would you cry for me as you wore that black gown?
Would your smile turn upside down?
Would you pray for me to be in a better place?
Would you put my ashes in vase?
Or would you spread them gently out to sea?
For this is where id want to be.
Will you remember the good times we shared?
Or will you remember the time that weren't fair?
Just remember ill always be around,
Ill even be your shadow on the ground.
Life is to short life is not fair,
But in the end we'll always make a great pair.

Nibbles Of Temptation

Temptations allure influenced only by the physical. Then further made curious by a simple comment of “you smell good” or an undeniable look of “I want you”!
With that your voice seems to change becoming sultrier.
From there you want to reach out and touch, but when you do, just the simplest of touch to an exposed arm gives your body unexplained chills to the flesh.

Temptation is a master manipulator at making its presence known at the most reluctant of times; be it in a relationship or not... It can consume our thoughts and intrude our brain with life’s cliché’s of the ever popular “Life is to short”…”Here today gone tomorrow”…”Live in the moment”…And of course the famous quote by Nike…”Just do it”!

Are these suggestions genuine or authentic enough in their meaning to just do the inexcusable…Or is this the crap we tell ourselves before the inevitable rears its ugly head?

Our inner uncertainty teases and tells us that we must explore the pull of this mental foreplay, if only for a minute, a second even. And should it turn into something longer than anticipated then we must take it day by day, expecting nothing more or less.
Convincing yourself to keep it easy, a few meet and greets, mild conversations, with a few drinks here and there, and always ending the day or night with just a few hugs or two and friendly kisses to the cheek, ridding any suggestive thoughts of groping, tongue to tongue oral imageries of intimacy.

How is it that we can deny temptation with all its inviting meanings of seduction, desires to have or do something you know you should avoid! Enticement, influenced by excitement, hope or desire… The shameless pursuit of simply wanting to know what it’ll be like to have you physically inside me?

Relinquishing all you know to be mentally and sexually gratifying; simply nibbles and thoughts of unexplored temptation.

Here Today Gone Tomorrow A Tribute to President John Fitzgerald Kennedy

And there for one brief moment
Was our light
Shining strong
And shining bright
Bringing us new signs of hope
With courage
And the gift to cope
He left us when he's needed most
Returning to the Blessed Host
With caring grace
And love of man
This leader came
Did all he can
All must remember what he gave
His dreams for us
Are what we save

Born Terminal

Born Terminal

Ashes to ashes..dust to dust
Death will ultimately come to us

Here today..gone tomorrow
Too quick to come.. overcome by sorrow

One day it will arrive to each one of us
Death you see is a terminal must

When we're born we begin to die
We can't avoid death regardless of what's tried

Do you ever think of death in a serious way
Regardless of how hard you wish to stay

Ever imagine what life would be without you
The Reaper will come regardless of who

Death is a discarded thought in time
Buried thoughts so deep in your mind

Some go early... some go late
Most of us wish we could pick the date

It saddens me that life is so short and so quick to pass
But regardless my thoughts..life's time is fast

So enjoy your short time we have here on earth
Try to enjoy your life for what it's worth

Smile and sing and enjoy each day
Forgive and forget hold anger at bay

Hug your love ones and treat them with kindness
Your time on earth is far from timeless

Always keep this thought in mind
You'll never outlast the word called TIME.

FRIENDLY ADVICE lost love

re-post inspired by Nicola's contest

now
and then
better yet,
once in a while
it's now or never;
a will oer the wisp thing
here today,gone tomorrow
as with yesterday's newspaper
buried deep into today's troubles
My friend, today will soon be tomorrow
if you stop crying into today's beer,
lift your head, see the wood from the trees,
a rolling ball gathers no moss,
stop crying over split milk;
and look at it this way,
you know it makes sense,
get a grip lad;
forgive her,
forget
her

A piece of my heart

Here today gone tomorrow
I didnt get to say goodbye
I miss you so much
I could just cry
Everyday I try to hang on
to all the memories
of you being my brother
of me being your sissy
It's hard to believe that someone
would take you away
from everyone you loved
but God knows best
God in heaven above
The pain cuts so deep
deep within my soul
on that very day you left me
my heart became froze...

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

This sonnet was inspired while celebrating my daughter’s birthday. Everyone was eating
cake except me. I hardly ever eat sweets. “A moment on the lips, forever on the hips”.
Anyway, while they were enjoying the moment, I began to muse. Later that evening I
composed this:

My daughter is older by a year today.
She is thirty-seven. I wonder where
The time has gone It seems to melt away.
It’s like an imperceptible glacier
Receding slowly, leaving once unseen
Destruction bare, exposed to view, behind.
I see what time has etched on me between
A youth of yesteryear and current time.
The mirror reflects wrinkled lines and spots.
And not to mention, but I will! The gray.
And like the ice, receding hair, a lot
Is lost. My exploratory survey?
It can be said, expressed this way: Ahem!
I once had youth and now it’s gone, Amen.

Got That Good Good

To love and claim something that doesn't belong to you
Happens a lot in this world, so what's a girl to do?
You approached me with your lies and all of your charm
Telling me I'm your one and only, there was no cause for alarm
I thought I had the good good and I was your only one
Quickly did I learn that you were only out to have fun
I started to catch feelings and wanted you for myself
That was never on your mind, you're only capable of loving yourself
You did all the right things to get me I must say
You're here today, gone tomorrow, how do you pass your time away?
I know that you are chasing more skirts than I can count
As long as I am one of them, who cares about the amount
I know I got the good good and it always prevail
I am chasing you now my dear and I promise not to fail
So you just keep on chasing skirts cause right here I shall be
Loving and claiming something that will never belong to me
You have made it known in your heart, I shall not be found
As long as I got that good good, you will forever be around
You see I know I'm loving and claiming someone who will never love me
Its easier to love this way than to set this love of mine free...

Speak Soft

Speak Soft

Speak soft- a generational shift
The experienced age versus foolish youth
A war waged between generations
For one side has lived through life
Endured hardships and mistakes
But the other simply ignores wisdom

Speak soft- here today, gone tomorrow
The dove was flying so high yesterday
But now roosts with a broken wing

Speak soft- words of hate are like knives
Drenched with acid and poison
And once the knife cuts
There is no way to repair the damage

Speak soft- A demonic image hides an Angel
It's always a golden heart that endures the worst
But the worst brings out the best

Speak soft- the world continues to turn unaware that
Tragedy strikes deep within your heart

Speak soft- even concrete can hide a diamond
If one puts forth the effort necessary to mine
Indifferent one day; in tears the next day

Speak soft- care for those who care for you

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

Someone once gave me advice
That same person cared
More than I realized at the time
Now forever a memory
One slowly fading with time
Know that I love you
And miss you everyday
My lifeline to the world.

A constant unwavering presence
Never will I find again
One so honest and open
The truth never hurt
I miss everything that was
What can never be again
Reality in all it's glory
A fading memory of wisdom

Strength and courage unmeasurable
Never truly reaching own potential
Always seeing in others
What not everyone could see
It's taken years for me to realize
Only after you've been gone
Do I see what I should have
That I have more to offer now
