Premium Member A Bridge Across the Raging Sea

There was a time in life so long ago
when all my visions suddenly seemed dark;
the nighttime sky was void of moonlight’s glow,
and sunless winter days were grey and stark.

I felt as though the walls were closing in,
and squeezing from my soul my very life
as I was drowning in my sea of sin
surrounded by the darkness and the strife.

As I lay in the gutters of my dreams,
a hand so tenderly reached out to me;
a stranger lifting spirits from extremes
then bridged the raging waters of my sea.

His soft grey eyes so gently gave a nod,
and suddenly I saw the face of God.

Poem of the Day - May 19, 2020

Oh, poor heart, why are you in so much pain?
Why do you take this heart ache, when someone who you know is in pain.

Someone's sleepless nights, someone's despair,
The heart bleeds when fate punishes someone so unfair.

Although people know and sympathize with the misery,
the helping hands, close friends and relatives vanish in a hurry.

Oh lord, how can I ignore such pain even when I am struggling to survive?
The poor heart will feel better thinking it helped someone's will to survive.

Whether happy or unhappy, I sing Narasinh Mehta's song,
"One who is human, knows the pain of others,
Does good to others who are in misery,
and does not let pride enter his or her mind"

Narasinh Mehta – 17th Century Indian poet

Lend a Helping Hand

There's always some poor soul, I find,
whose life is in a mess!
Someone, who really needs some help,
in times of strife and stress.

They need their spirits lifted,
sometimes that's all it takes!
It really is surprising,
the world of difference, that it makes!

A smile, an act of kindness,
will do more than words can say!
Don't wait for folks to ask for help,
be there for them today!

A True Story of a Helping Hand

One night a young man appeared at my door,
It seemed he had troubles I couldn't ignore.
Some water and a phone call was all he asked for,
Yet somewhat reluctant, I opened the door.
As I listened, he told me a little about his life,
And I could plainly see, there had been much strife.
Well, I thought to myself, now there must be something there,
That the Lord could use in His service down here.
I told him it appeared that his life needed a change,
And it was God who knew how his life to re-arrange.
So, I fed him and sent him on his way home,
Then I prayed for this young man, that night, after he was gone.
Later, my husband told me of the fear that he felt,
That I had opened the door to a man so unkept,
How today, this is just something we should never do,
Even though God says,"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Oh! What has this world come to, when in Gods word we are told,
To help those in need and are hungry and cold?
Must we now be afraid to lend a helping hand,
Unaware that some might be angels wanting to be a welcomed friend?

Now, I don't know if I'll ever hear again from this man,
But I was willing to lend him, my helping hand,
Just to share what I had, and one thing more,
A way that his young life could again be restored.
Yes, I guess we must now be afraid to lend a helping hand,
Unaware that some might be angels, never to pass our way again.

Helping Hand

the more you help them
                                   the more you receive blessings
                                        kindness from the heart
                                         happiness overflowing
a lighted path from God’s love

A Helping Hand

None of us are sufficient,
all by ourselves, to meet
every need in our life.

We all need help from
someone-sometime,
as we go traveling through
our journey-filled with cares
and strife.

What joy it is to have
a friend to walk along
beside us! Just to feel
the touch of a hand…

Jesus is such a friend
at all times.
Whatever you need-
He understands. And He
will keep on holding your hand.

A Helping Hand

There comes in life, terrible times
when we are caught in common crimes,
not that we can't afford to drop a dime,
but we are blind to the beauty in... birdlime.

There are poor elders, starving and dying:
so many children, craving and crying.
When will we stop sleeping and spying
and keep the flag of faith and affection
flying?

It's time to honestly lend helping hands,
let's lift the helpless from...lonesome lands.
You are better of, do you understand?
Join the Blessed-to-bless-others band.

I can't sit here and expect a cheap change,
the woes I see around me are so strange:
Shattered dreams, talents displaced,
deranged,
let's keep rescue within our radar's range.

What is the use of those mighty mansions?
A future engineer needs to pump his
passion;
posterity yearns... for our rescue mission,
save their soul from the cot of confusion.

True Love starts the day we choose to live
to grace the world by the worth we give,
love is lost when we forget to forgive...
When needs arise, let us not be naive.

A Helping Hand

Easy to receive, hard to give is how we are
Everybody looking for things to fill where you are
Not caring for others, we want to reach up there
To get everything and bring it near
Not remembering others with nothing out there
That poor kid you help, nature rewards you later

Useless, worthless, sick and dirty they may look
With their dream for good life hanging on a hook
In hopeless, insecure and dangerous environs they have lived
Food, shelter, clothing and education they have lacked
On strangers, unknown, fortune and fate they have relied
That poor kid you help, nature rewards you later

Looking at us they are, waiting for us to offer a helping hand
Even a piece of cake or cheap cloth they haven’t refused
No one may see you, but you won’t go unrewarded
Any help you offer willingly won’t go unnoticed
Nature will see and your needs will be fulfilled
That poor kid you help, nature rewards you later

Giving a little won’t affect your monthly bill
Not only their lives you will help, but even their souls you will heal
Let’s join hands to help them ascend this life hill
Reward you may not get, but surely your descendants will
If we do so, a great life we will make for real
That poor kid you help, nature rewards you later

A Helping Hand

A tornado can ruin homes
Destroy a whole complete town,
People there come together
None are seen with a frown.

A hurricane comes along
Not one business it didnt touch,
Yet again all comes together
Anger, resentment you dont see much.

A family member strays away
Chaos for everyone now there,
Nobody comes together now
Its like we just dont care.

Where did things go so wrong
When familys have lost love,
No longer cared about feelings
Nor went beyond and above.

How have we forgotten
What made us who we are,
That without family suport
We'd never gotten this far.

So perhpas its simple
Practice just as we preach,
Rather than to strangers
Make it family which to reach.

Bring back old standards
Listen for once to the man above,
Rekindle those family values
By giving hugs and true love.

A Helping Hand

To be honest my friend, when I’m at a loose end
I can fall prey to worry and fear
So give me a shout and I may help you out
When your burden’s too grievous to bear

I will offer my hand that together we’ll stand
United and facing down fear
And with every shared breath we will contradict death
So that just for today we are spared.

A Helping Hand To Hold

A Helping Hand To Hold

My mind is a blank
When I contemplate her
Learning to not think
Yet my thoughts are astir
Does she ever blink?
Or does it occur
She’s not so alone
And her sadness just shrank

Still, there aren’t words
Or sole to move the weight of past
Friendly hands help the stones to stir
Free the river to flow fast
Over time drops dissolve boulders
Eroding the fears at last
Looking ahead instead over shoulders

Trust, the feeling we share
You must, if you ever hope to repair
I will, as long as we can stay fair
I will, for you, for nothing can compare

Helping Hand

The greatest gift you can bring to life
learn to smile and enjoy your time
it's fun to dance and just unwind

In caring for another man
it's good to teach and be their friend
when work is done with a smile and fun

The reward is that respect is won
granted you must understand
the lines not written in the sand

each person is a different man
with different thoughts
and needs my friend

one will laugh enjoy a shove
yet some will not enjoy that love
some will joke of politic's

well other's need your just respect
read the people one and all
we all are different not just walls

some will need a helping hand
well others need a quiet friend
well some need help to overcome
others need a push to run.

A Helping Hand

If you fall from grace, your life's a disgrace,
What you need is a helping hand.
Should you trip on stones; fall or break your bones,
Again, you look for a helping hand.

Be glad of a friend. One who will extend
Help and comfort in your hour of need.
But be sure that you, give needed help too.
When your support is wanted, take heed.

If a friend or stranger stands in danger,
And troubles at your doorstep are laid!
Don't chasten or chide, or be full of pride,
With willing hands reach out and give aid!

Sometimes we rely on those passing by
When we cannot cope with our trouble.
Never count the cost, or all will be lost.
For chances are, problems will double.

For throughout our life, in times of great strife,
We will need every true friend we've known.
So let us walk proud, and give praise aloud
For the fond love and caring they've shown.

Extend a Helping Hand and Draw Back a Nub

Extend a Helping Hand and Draw Back a Nub

By Elton Camp

Terrorists are examples of people like that
They don’t want any help, but only combat

If anything reasonable you should say or do
To your woe, you will learn their colors true

It really won’t do you any good even to try
For whatever you say, they will misapply

Some evangelical “christians” are like that
Try to reason and they will hit you, “Splat.”

Their views, on all others, they would force
And love to use the public schools, of course

If schools give other views, they cry “Fowl,”
While to get to impose theirs, they will howl

With legal American values, this never fits
Don’t give in to such lying, sneaky hypocrites

(This speaks, not about all Christians, but those who would impose their views on others, especially through the public schools. Their websites sometimes deliberately lie when reporting actions by the schools to prevent their domination.)
