Play Not a Dirge When I Am Gone

Play Not A Dirge When I Am Gone

Play not a dirge when I am gone;
light no candles, not even one.
A treasured poem would be enough
to mark my end when curtain’s drawn.

Hold no sad wakes to honor me
some happy poems, I’d rather be
recited on a night for friends
then spread my ashes o'er the sea.

And wonder not nor be afraid
if less of love you have conveyed;
you’re part of me and that’s enough,
while life’s not fair, I’m not dismayed.

If comes a time that you remember
that one fine day in November,
then send a kiss toward the sea
and just forget this fly in amber.*

When I Am Dead My Dearest

by Cristina Georgina Rossetti

When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me;
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.

I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on, as if in pain:
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Haply I may remember,
And haply may forget.

*fly in amber - noun, reminder of the past

FOLK DANCE DWM

Attended Summer Camp at high school level
A happy happening, I would like to tell.
      We assembled in remote suburb
where all quiet, nothing to disturb.

At the Fair met a rural Folk Dance team
Got interested on their cheerful theme.
The group consisted of young villagers.
       We were enthusiastic teenagers.

        Music started perchance.
       "Dance Dear Dance
        Don’t miss chance
        Cast aslant glance
       on spectators!
                                  Spectacular show
                                 in glamorous glow
                                 Perhaps fast or slow.
                                 We are entertainers
                                        Not dictators!"

Village guys with multi colored attire
Lyrics seemed to be type of satire.
Girls wearing olive green glossy gown
        with periwinkle flowery crown.

We dressed in Jeans and Tops wearing hay hats,
trying to match with close by wide paddy field.
Joined them prompt: Our pearly passion to yield.
Danced delight in rhythm on steps exact.

     Two dances were combined.
     Folk Dance -Ball Dance entwined.
A choreography of modern and rural style,
    proclaiming a novel dance profile.

Feral flora foliage swinging in gentle breeze.
Our pleasure neither to measure nor to cease.
Little brittle ripples dancing on mossy pond
Haply our short trip enjoyed friendship bond.

As We Met

A glimpse of you in a wonderful day
Brought storm and I was swept away
Crept and crawled in depth of your gaze
Devastated, drowned and flown in craze
Enchanted with charm in every breath
Fascination urged even to embrace death.
        Glory of emotion reached perfection
        Heaven stepped down on destination.
Illuminated my heart, soothed my, soul.
Journey of life turned bright to reach goal.
Knocked my conscious and sub conscious desire
Lightening of love flashed on mind- sky entire.
       Motionless, speechless I stared
Not even a smile I dared.
      Overwhelmed fully and felt narcotic
Passion was oozing making me lunatic.
Quenched my thirst on your glance to absorb
Ripples of excitation dancing on each heart throb.
      Strange sappiness longed for manifestation
Thrilled to sense a heart-piercing expectation
Utmost longing to speak a syllable
Ventured by me but was not viable.
Wobbling swayed, I could not approach her
'X' in my equation of love was not solved either
You came forward haply to hold my hand.
Zeal won before I could understand.

Commitment To Shakespeare

Written as a tribute to a popular song ... can you guess which one?

When wak’st from slumber shall I be
Fain present to lay next to thee
and whither shall my sojourn be
methinks that thou would’st walk with me
much ale beset me to the ground
laid next to thee shall I be found
if all’st my parley bawdy be
I warrant, it shall be with thee

Forsooth five hundred miles afield
Travail - and then five hundred more
Traverse a thousand miles, in truth
To haply lay athwart thy door.

Heaven Hails a Happy Man

Pause, ponder as only man can,
Freed from mind's prison, what-if's pall,
Know, heaven hails a happy man.

Right things do happen to man, when
He hearkens to soul's silent call,
So, pause and ponder as ye can.

Do take a panoramic pan,
View that the world's no hospice hall,
It’s time it hails a happy man.

Enough this ill-gotten suntan,
Stop chasing Sun, why, why at all?
O pause to ponder as man can.

Pray, all that ye have to do then—
Is to bridge a gulf, fall a wall,
Be cosy in a happy den.

This done, be a free bird again,
Dawn’s dawn not when night’s reign does fall,
And haply feel as sure as can,
Heaven hails such a happy man.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Picnic.

Funny thing happened on way to picnic close to a jungle.
Taking twelve people three cars started simultaneous.
Cars going in queue, front- one, driven by my uncle.
We were in joyous mood, singing loud in chorus.

On road side, morning walkers were practicing jog.
Through military campus road led to our destination.
All the bungalows showing warning ‘Beware of dog’.
We were relaxed and car running in slow motion.

Haply from a house, came out a running Alsatian,
just to commit suicide on hit of our car.
With a rifle rushed the owner, a military man.
All were frightened to deal with the disaster.

My uncle got down, apologized, ‘just to mention,
I have no fault, please try to understand.
Excuse us Sir, take this money as compensation.'
Stern looked officer hesitated, but stretched his hand.

‘Ok. Fine. Accepting your ‘Fine’ as you are feeling sad.
Killing the rascal, you have done a great favor.
I am going to shoot him as he has gone mad.
Never mind. In future, be a cautious driver.’

LONE SAILOR

                             Restless river ceaseless flows.
                             Boatman floats boat and rows.
Me! A lone sailor rowing boat on tears just aimless

Ruffling water on stroke of oar.
                             Brittle ripples thrash on shore.
Haply you have come to lend your hand! My princess.

                            Boat raising little splashing sound.
                             Breeze blows, leaves murmur around.
You boarded my boat, wiped my tears! Joy is boundless

                             Restless river runs and rushes,
                              makes way through bushes
Now I know, life is majestic, wonderful, peerless.

                               Passing towns, or farming land
on river bank or solitary strand.
On joint journey, we are free and careless.

                              Restless river turns back never,
but flows and flows for forever.
I wish you should come in my young days to impress.

A Date With Ducks

Here comes a mom duck a crackling,
All her flock close by following—
All of the chicks seventeen
That makes alive wetland scene.

In fresh-water swamps comb ducks breed,
Togetherness their sole creed
Till they disperse in wet season,
So scorching when gets the sun.

Reaching up to a huge hundred,
O Knob-billed ducks, appears your deed
That has no leader to lead,
A serpentine tail there’s, nor head.

To us men, a few things ye teach—
Sticking to no chairs as if leech,
You’re no proud frogs, nor cocky cocks,
You have leaders that foster flocks.

Ye haply feed on swampy green,
Or else on sturdy water weeds,
On smaller fish and sundry seeds,
Peace and order seems your scene.

I admire how your life you lead,
Glad with your girth, shorn still of greed—
Yea, to see any of you lean
Be rare as your tinge, blue with green.

Who can call you ugly duckling?
And beauty there's in white and black,
Just one thing you perhaps still lack—
The way you sing— a coarse crackling.

With feathers black and body white,
And hints of dark blue tinged with green,
A speckled neck, greyish, yet bright,
Your claws I’m sure should peace-prize win—

Webbed, for hunt nor for fight are made,
Nor your beak an aggression shows,
Nor is there any war-like red,
Nor hunting, harming a duck knows.

As mom you seem considerate,
And care-worn, eggs to incubate,
Ye raise chicks all by you alone,
A dozen and more all your own!

Home, Where Heart Finds Its Ease

O to have endless stretch ‘pon earth to roam,
Return to rest, to roost, to my sweet home.

Sweet home, forever a mighty magnet
To go back to an ever open gate,

Its awe and allure never once on wane,
Nor depends on what it might well contain.

For, home’s no house with a roof, walls and beams,
What makes it what is: love and lasting dreams,

What makes it home are sweetest memories,
Strife and struggles that bind, make families.

Bricks and mortars make no more than shelters,
Home, of love of shades that fades nor falters.

I’ve never heard of a home constructed
Like brick-built house, but painstakingly made.

History hath hailed homes in print so bold—
That its hollow of heart’s lined with pure gold.

O inspire me to go and explore world,
Which, having done, hail this migrating bird.

My mind. my feet may wander all the dome,
Not heart, it haply drops anchors at home.

If life be a coiled thread, one end in hand,
Thou doubtless art O Home the other end,

One may or not get to the coil’s far end,
The way to thee Home, always is in hand.

What magic that one tends to hate to leave,
And feels good to return one early eve.

Man flies but misses that feel of firm ground
And looks for it like a child mother-bound.

So I feel if for long in foreign land,
What’s that O Motherland ye hold in hand?

If to my soul, body be lifelong home,
To atman why not all the cosmic dome?

Few things sound sweeter than thee, O my home,
When deeply uttered, ye sound nigh like AUM.

In mother’s gaze of grace and warm embrace,
One feels at home from lifetime’s toil-filled race.

There’s sunny warmth and shelter of blue sky,
Thou art the last resort from every sigh.

In life man may have triumphed, travelled far,
Notstanding still, home hails like Polar Star.

Whenever he hath lost his life’s address,
Sweet home, ye always beckon O to bless.

Angels and Lyres

Fair Angels of Parnassus, Muses Nine,
That on its snowy summit gay recline
With other gods, are haply the cynosure
Of poets whom inspires your sacred ewer,
O'erflow'd with the ambrosial Hippocrene,
The haunt of daughters of Mnemosyne,
And Father Jove who loves these nymphets most,
And of that gelid crest th’ immortal host.
Apollo, son of Jove, gives company
To your glad song of heaven’s euphony;
There to his lyre flourish unfetter'd throats
That bear the truest art through truest notes.
When sing ye graceful goddesses amidst
The brood of Saturn’s mighty son in feasts,
May gladden the heart of children of the plain
As well who in summer nights hearken you fain.
I heard that music mild betwixt the glades,
‘Twixt valleys old till with the breeze it fades,
Amongst the rustling youthful Aspen leaves,
From bough to bough its tender beauty weaves.
On warbler’s throat ye happy strains do pour,
Above the groves as o’er the mountain soar
They with their pinions unweary and suave,
Dispenser of all art ye fain observe.

His Blessings

Moment soon the soul whimper,
                 Hesitate to touch mighty feet;
Lose mettle idle crafty plot hover
And steep mind loyal rational heat:
Sure cling he each bums bend,
By stretching own hands smugly surround.

Neither sophism could impress him;
                 Nor pile of offering delight,
Need not hold, pity merge gleam,
His traces are above all bright,
His hideous growl exposes hazard dis-quest
His blessings washes our shabby resist.

When some receive his blessings...
                 Look hundredfold ideas dense success;
Distrust not life shows dreary happenings
Seem sadden cry in screaming guess,
Haply disturb prudent at perplexity wink
What promotes occult utilitarian ward link.

Season of Typical Year

Spring feels like seating on wagon clearheaded as judge
A wagon jobber’s cart splashing water while passing a river
Temperate air blowing and whispering around
A whim of holding my lover, haply defining life at a beach-
-took over me

Summer sounds like crazy god of fire, you can’t come near
Feels hotter as Indian spicy-hot food
Always accompanied with Chinese summer soup
Desisting from heat and flames
Flames of affection after sighting a lip glossed young tender modernized girl

Autumn feels like a newly wedded couple
Beautiful as autumn foliage flowers
Like arm of palace, majestically falling from trees
Falling like petals on grand party

Winter taste like luncheon meat
It reminds me the cheers and uproar on winter sport
Loud but uncharged
Cold weather striking through, a warm cloudy like breath sparks out of nostril
Holding on to my clothes like fungi

seasons of typical year, flesh and tender in my mind
everyday i pay attention to what next year will bring

Here Is Happiness For Me

With her pet toy in hand and playing,
In mother’s lap, a strange smile lurking,
To her lullaby whilst listening,
Eyes on Ma, at last succumbs to sleep,
Here’s happiness for me sound asleep.

Their heavy school bags left way aside,
Uniforms too thrown on whatso side,
Back from bunking class, leave un-applied,
Bare bodied when children dance in rain,
Here’s happiness for me sans restrain.

Dreams and young desires dancing in mind,
Two teenagers in tender love blind,
At the appointed place do when find
And haply together smile their smiles,
Here’s happiness to me that beguiles.

Dawns a day, and Ma wakes up early,
Finds the house bare and rather lonely,
And lo, the door-bell rings suddenly,
Her daughter and kids hug her in glee,
Here is crest of happiness to me.

One eve, the sun prepares when to pack,
I see grandpa— nigh bent at the back,
Nostalgic, playing old songs from rack
When breaks into dance that transcends age,
That’s happiness to me freed from cage.
