Best Hamish Poems
Angus and Morag decided to get married
Twenty years together – too long they had dallied
So off to the registry office they did go
To book the wedding and get on with the show
Angus being a canny Scots man
Said lets get this done as cheaply as we can
If we limit the numbers there will be a reduction
Oh Angus please learn the art of seduction
He paid for 6 people at a reduced fee
Angus rubbed his hands with glee
Just Angus the groom and Morag the bride
Would stand together side by side
They wore nothing special on their special day
Angus did not want fuss it is cheaper way
Ailsa and Isla their two teenage daughters
Hamish and Jeanie their other supporters
The wedding breakfast was held at Maccy D’s
Six Big Macs and fries, 2 cokes and four teas
Hamish was happy to pay for this meal
He’d got a voucher for a 2 for 1 deal
I felt really sorry for Morag that special day
Hamish hadn’t always been this way
When they met Hamish swept her off her feet
But now he’s got control of the monthly balance sheet
I haven’t stopped smiling since I read this great news
No better daughter in law his parents could choose
His mother didn’t have to buy a new hat
I know she will have been pleased about that

The Last Candle
“Hamish!, Hamish!”
“Yes, my dear?”
“I am close to death I fear”
As he held her hand,
Her pleas and her pain
Were clear to understand
“Hamish!, Hamish!”
“Yes, dearest love?”
“Will I be received up above?”
As she held her cross,
Her prayers and her doubts
Were profit and loss.
“Hamish!, Hamish!”
“Yes, my flower?”
“Is my life within your power?”
As he held his stethoscope,
He bowed his head in defeat
As there was no hope.
“Hamish!, Hamish!”
“Yes, my light?”
“What is that candle in this deep deep night?”
As her hand relaxed in his
He kissed her cheek
And closed her lids
With slightly trembling fingertips.

Dramatic Verse
His name was Mr Hamish MacTavish.
He was a Scot, and his taste was lavish.
Mr MacTavish wrote a posh cookery book
So all Cordon Bleu Chefs could try to cook,
A haggis!

Limerick
Swish tailed Hamish, gloss black Stallion
Proud prize show hero bore blue medallion
Champion head turner tenacious steed
Lonely hoof stomper longed for a companion
Incidence of coinciding reserved to imagine
Narrow minded owners oblivious to his need
High knee haughty mare trotted by his enclosure
Temptation's waft overcame limited exposure
Hamish neighed a friend request, - she agreed
Lake rippled muscle, alpha outraged neck tossed
Winner's whinny recognised chance may be lost
Breaking barriers now became a necessary deed
Chest of windswept lake assisted stable escape
Charging through victoriously, gate swung agape
Asked lady to dance, she daringly took the lead
Dust distubed finesse surpassed usual manuevres
Hamish whispered happily, " Forever, the two of us."
Most cherished equine paradise known while freed
