If you see
   Something, or hear
      Something
         That could cause harm,
            Or perhaps much worse,

Say something!
   Please do...
      The right thing.
         Observe
            And report

What you find
   To be suspicious
      It could be a matter
         Of...
            Life and death. Act fast!

Premium Member My Purpose In Life

It’s 4:00 A.M.
and my alarm clock rudely awakens me.

As I wash my face, I look in the mirror I ask,
“Why do I do this? I don’t have to,
and there are so many things I’d rather be doing.”
As I am leaving, I kiss my still sleeping wife on the forehead,
and I am reminded of the answer to my question…
I do this to give my family whatever in life they wish.

As dawn breaks,
I make my way across town in heavy traffic.

The news on the radio dulls the monotony of my commute,
“…hot and dry today, the Yankees beat Boston 5 to 4,
unemployment reaches a record high as more families face poverty.”
Hearing the news I am reminded of the things I was taught
when I was growing up; we must always do what we can,
and help the less fortunate; that is part of being a good citizen.

At the office,
my day unfolds and it’s work as usual.

Suddenly my day is interrupted by the ringing of my phone,
“This is Bob. My wife has died unexpectedly,
I need your help, your advice and support.”
Hearing this I recalled the hard times I’ve suffered in my life,
and the friends who were there by my side to give me support.
We must always be there to give strength when needed to those we love.

It’s 10:00 P.M.
As I wash my face and get ready for bed, I give thanks for my many blessings.

Small Portrait of a Good Citizen

The good citizen is a person of respect...
It doesn't have an easy life
and always lives in the grip...
But he doesn't get out of line,
he doesn't give in to temptations,
he is not impressed with easy gains...
He lives his life moving on,
he wears ordinary, not-expensive costumes,
but they are always clean...
That's why he follows firmly
and morals every day... !

Am I Really

I SAY I AM A GOOD CITIZEN
WHEN ASKED BY TEACHERS AND PEERS AT SCHOOL
YES, I PARTICIPATE IN CLEAN-UP DRIVES
I PICK UP LITTER ON THE SIDEWALK ON PUBLIC PLACES
I GET THE STARES AND SOME AWE AND I FEEL GOOD ABOUT MYSELF
BUT WHEN I THINK NO ONE IS LOOKING I THROW MY CANDY WRAPPERS ASIDE INSTEAD OF LOOKING FOR NEARBY TRASH CANS
“I HELP CLEAN IT UP ANYWAYS IT’S JUST A CANDY WRAPPER NO NEED TO FRET ABOUT IT.”

Good Citizen

Red,white, and blue are the colors that represent our flag.

People honor our country by saying the pledge.

As time goes by, laws change and taxes get higher.

We start to get mad and frustrated at the government as bills pile up and our money starts going.

We try to hang in there and help America out by voting.

For we are good citizens even when the country doesn't always treat us like one.

Premium Member Two White Wines

Dinner with old friends:
salmon with red cabbage, asparagus, Caesar's salad, penne with
      broccoli, two white wines.
Jane Jacobs could analyze how it all got to our table
or even how their daughter came to us from Cambodia.
The economy or market bringing a thing of beauty, the farms, the trucks,
such comfort. The ancients knew this too
yet we are anxious about famine, genocide and nuclear war.
How can we organize (govern) ourselves to end self-imposed suffering?
That Quebec and Puerto Rico may secede peacefully at any time a
majority chooses is a source of pride. Why not Kurds, Chechyns,
      Tibetans and Armenians?

Difficult to write a poem about it. At table, candlelight, we debate
or whine about the other side winning and making a mess
of our lives. The election could be stolen, tampering with voting
      machines,
what policy question does that possibility raise? War in Iraq,
school testing, prison population. Religion, the abyss surrounding the
little promontory life.

It'll all work out in the end. Go to your daily practice, be a good citizen.
Another failed effort to write what I mean. Such confusion, yet
two white wines.

Message In a Bottle

My mind still thinking of what to write,
My pen is eager to compose a nice poem,
To the next generation of people on earth,
Who will continue a legacy of living a good life.

I remembered all the things people did at present,
Things that's what they really needed...a change,
I will put it in a bottle, open and read it my friend,
It’s for your own sake living in this new world.

“Please take care of our mother nature,
It will help you so much in the future,
Give love and be a blessing to others,
Maintain peace and harmony to all”.

“Be a good citizen and love your country,
Practice a habit of praying every day,
Don’t be a greedy and selfish person,
Share what you have, be kind, be generous”.

“Before I forget, be a responsible member of the family,
Spare time with them though you’re busy with your duty,
They will love you, proud of you and you will be a model to them,
I know it’s too much to ask but it’s for your own good my friend”.

“This is only a small favor in a piece of paper,
A simple poetry from a concerned writer,
But it can change the world for a better place to live,
Follow it and your good deeds will make the people saved".

Premium Member A Rocker and a Cigar

I may not be happy
with the way things are,
I may express dissatisfaction
In my local bar,
But I refuse to burn down
my street in extreme reaction
to some civil distraction--
seems to me somewhat bizarre.
I must take care of business
in my own neighborhood,
Being no part of any fringe faction.
Give me a rocker and a cigar
And let me live in peace
Trying to do what is right
As every good citizen should!

Citizen Spy

It's scary dangerous out there,
this world sure feels so unsafe
There's constant conflict, uprisings and strife
Got me beefing up home security,
     increasing my life insurance annuity
Me even had to start extreme vetting my wife

It's uber hazardous out there,
this country sure seems like a lawless place
There's constant violence, protests and soft ad targeting
Had to buy me a high-caliber gun,
     added lots more cyber protection
Even started questioning the affiliations of close friends

It is what it is,
     I'm learning to adapt
Be more wary, keep a watchful eye
My government needs me
     to fill the intelligence gap
Guess you can call me a citizen spy

It's double red alert out there,
local communities with hidden enemies to trace
There's constant warfare of a multi-facet kind
Got bio, got religious
Got economic --- they're all insidious
I collected every conspiracy theory I could find

I'll be doing my part,
     'cause threats are everywhere
Presume you're guilty in the blink of an eye
Just a patriot at heart,
will make you vanish into thin air
Unless you pledge to become a citizen spy

It is what it is,
     you better learn to adapt
Become more skillful at knowing how to pry
Your government wants you,
     so contact the authorities ASAP
Get recruited and become a good citizen spy

Cigarette Runs and Traffic Lights

It is night
2 am
I am driving to the store for cigarettes
A short trip

Or it would be
Except the light turns red
The minute I reach it
I slow my car to a crawl

Hoping that I can inch my way forward
That if I just take my time
It will turn green and signal
My departure

It doesn’t turn green
And so I sit
At a red light
With not another car in sight

I sit tight
Just like I was trained to do
A good citizen
A willing slave

Even when it is clear I could move
Even when not a soul would be harmed
By pushing on the gas
And blowing the light

I sit in the dark
At the light
A quiet symbol of control
And wonder what it means to be free

And this is quite possibly
The greatest argument
For not buying cigarettes
At 2 am

If more people sat
In the dark
At lights at 2am
Then the makers of lights and rules
Might tremble

Premium Member The Blind Man

The blind man
walks slowly to the voting polls,
reaches for a lever
and pulls it.
There! Now I’ve voted.
I’m a good citizen.
Leaving, he stumbles
and falls into my arms.
Did you vote today?
No, I’m not blind.

An Old Man Was Driving Down the Country Road ( Hilarious )

An old man was driving down the country road

Written By Dean Masciarelli

October 1, 2010 (11:55am)

An old man was driving
down the country road

And while he was driving

He noticed that there was a police
officer up ahead
that was sitting on the side of the road

And he knew that he was going
a little
over the recommended speed

And as he passed by
the officer
got right behind him

And then he followed
him
down the winding road

And that’s when the old man could see something
in his rear view mirror
and he noticed that the officers head light was dead

So he did what any good citizen would do and he flagged
the officer down
just to let him know that his head light had gone dead

And when the officer got out of his car the old man told the officer
with a big smile on his face that he is only going to give him a warning
this time around because every now and then everyone deserves a
good deed

And that’s when the officer smiled and went to the front
of his
car just to see if the old man was just trying to pull his leg

And when the officer returned he told the old man that this was
the first time
that he has ever had a citizen that had pulled him over instead

And they both laughed about it for a moment or two and
the officer said thank you and then they both got back
in there cars and they headed back down the country road

(This is a true story)

It just goes to show you that sometimes good deeds don't go unnoticed because they are appreciated.

Premium Member I Do It For the Doing's Sake

I pick up litter on the road.
What shines is often roadside trash.
I do it for the doing’s sake.

What glitters most is always gold,
To us who keep a highway clean.
Most cans and broken glass attract
Our eye like daytime fireflies.
I do it for the doing’s sake.

Not punishment for drunkenness.
(Though something I’ve been guilty of).
Nor for some passer by to take
Me for some do-good citizen.
I’ll not be known when dead and gone:
No apples trees as legacy.
I do it for the doing’s sake.

No stealing of what’s thrown away,
No trespass on what’s public land,
No evidence of DNA
Disturbed nor finger printed cans.
Just drive to give me wider birth.
Don’t honk or wave or two thumbs up.
Unless escaped from elder care,
Call no police to help me home.
I do it for the doing’s sake.

What's In a Name

Some people say the meaning of my name is Good citizen
and some say it means Good daughter but there is a pitiful
story behind my name,I have been mistaken for a boy
because of my rare name, since my childhood and I often try
to elucidate the meaning to my new friends who wrongly
pronounce my name;It is a genderless name actually
