Best Gap Toothed Poems
Away with work
Up Kaitaia way
I’d driven for miles
I’d driven all day.
In a beautiful place
I was feeling alone
So great was the distance
Between me and my home.
I came round a corner
To see works on the road
What gave me the grin
Was a sight to behold.
A stop go lady
She was dancing and moving
Jiggling the booty
Twirling and grooving
Funky and crazy
Not a care in the world
As I unwound the window
A smile she unfurled.
A gap toothed grin
From a proud Maori face
I told her she’d struck me
By her style and her grace.
“Bro it’s OK,
It’s easy to me
When I’m out in the open
Feeling so free
Some think I’m crazy
But I don’t really care
They don’t know my story
The music, only I hear.”
Then she boogied me through
As I beamed and I waved
A new rule for my future
On that day she paved.

Hey Daddy!
I got a gap toothed grin and that's a sin.
Hey Daddy!
I really need some dentistry.
Ohh Daddy!
I got a double chin and jowls like Gentle Ben.
Hey Daddy!
I need plastic surgery.
Hey Daddy!
I need a fanny lift, nose bob and a boob job.
Ohh Daddy!
I sure could use some surgery.
Oh Daddy!
I've had my tummy tucked and been lipo-sucked.
Oooo Daddy!
Now I look just like Barbie.
Hey Daddy!
I want a diamond ring and things with lots of bling.
Oh Daddy!
You gotta buy it all for me.
Ohh Daddy!
He's got a brand new car, a yacht and caviar.
Bye Daddy!
You sure have been a friend to me.

Grandma's dresser was a testament to time. Elegant in it's curves. Sturdy in it's
construction.
A thick piece of plate glass lay atop, to protect the wood surface. Under that glass,
sealed away, yet there to be seen, were pictures and announcements. Mile stones
important to Grandma.
There was a picture of each one of us grand kids when we lost our two front teeth.
Big, gap toothed grins on our young faces. Taken years a part. Yet placed side by
side, under the glass.
Positioned below them was a poem. Written by my Grandfather while they were first
dating. Lovingly kept to be read each day.
Over on the other side of the dresser top, was placed a short newspaper article. The
obituary of her mothers death. next to it lay the program from her funeral. Grandma's
tears, still evident on the parchment.
Towards the middle, was my brothers Certificate Of Graduation from The School For
The Deaf, at the age of five. There had been a newspaper article done on him by the
local daily paper. That picture of him with mother was next to the certificate. He was
proudly wearing his first hearing aids.
A bit of lace from Grandma's wedding dress.
A napkin from a fancy restaurant Grandpa took her to, once.
A flower drawn on brown paper. Given to her on Mother's Day by my mom at the age
of three.
Other little photos and bits of life kept to be enjoyed and shared...under that plate
glass.

Narrative
It was on a Sunday night,yes I am sure,for it's all
coming back now and vividly too as if it was yesterday.
The night was clear with the brightness of the moon
like a glowing dot on the blue night sky.I was walking
home after having a good time with my friends.I was in
a happy mood as I strolled pass on the street.
As I looked, something caught my attention.
Involuntarily I double checked to know what pricked
my consciousness so.Behold, behind the flickering
light of a home-made lantern,sat this beauty.I meant
to continue my walk, but my legs as if in consonance
with the activities of my brain and the control of
my mind,took me to her.
I greeted her,and with the light dancing in her
sparkling eyes she responded. When she spoke,it was with
a charming smile and an alluring gap-toothed dentition,
coupled with a sonorously infused velvety voice.I was
captivated.I intended to spend a few minutes but ended
up spending over an hour with her.She has an adorable
physique with such a poise.I have been addicted to her
ever since.
But she has not afforded me the opportunity to express
what I feel inside me for her,nor has the situation
provided itself. There seem to be many of us seeking her
attention.I don't know if this personality I fell for is
her true person or a persona. One thing I know is that
she caught my fancy.Who am I talking about if not you.
Yes,you Baby. You are the Beauty that Caught my Fancy.

Heart of porcelain with crimson lips
Cracks a gap toothed grin
But troubled cobalt eyes
Reflect a sorrow deep within
Chestnut locks obscure his sight
As he now hangs his head
He shrinks in silence suddenly
His countenance speaks dread
I look to see what force has come
To bring about the change
But, when I behold the source
It seems no longer strange
The one who glowers at the boy
Contorts his face with rage
What could this little child have done
At such a tender age
To provoke unbridled hate
And fury from this man
Who should be cherishing his son
I cannot understand
He roughly drags the boy away
I watch in frozen fear
Saline heat runs down my cheek
One single, bitter tear
Inspired by Sami Al-khalili's contest, "Face of All Emotions"

Haiku
I've passed this way many a day
and wondered as I strayed;
Who had opened, what had filled
the gap within the crib's dark bay.
The opening small in the wall
at once so spare yet alluring
with tilted sides and gap toothed maw
which now held field mice burrowing.
The boards of red once formed a bed
for stored feed of golden maze,
these cedar shingles had sheltered
the abundance of by gone days.
The farm's gone now, no fields, no cow
long past its youth, its heyday
housing only bitter sweet and
memories of corn cobs and play.
Yet, here it stands, as I go by,
and so quietly it brings to me;
the lingering joy of laughter
the faint echoes of jubilee.

Brilliant young girl
Old in character
Lovely and fun to be with
Unarguably, a rare jewel
Wearing on her face,
A gap- toothed grin
That sparkles like rainbow
In that smile, there's vigour
Fidelity, her watchword
Enthralling all, her virtues

this spine tingling reaction that flushed testosterone from heads to toe
sketched out sometime from ~july or august 2012
and triggered a chain reaction
of wishful desires in overdrive seeing this aesthetically pleasing gal
in the summer of her full feminine bloom
(and yes, young enough to be me an splendid supreme offspring
of this gap toothed fifty three year old simian)
whose primary purpose comprises tutoring my daughter
born with cognitive plus developmental delays
and whose academic weakness qualified her since birth - or soon thereafter
to receive intervention to allow, enable and provide her with life skills
so she can become self reliant upon an adult
thus bringing this papa thru the aegis of said progeny

many blindsiding these myopic eyes with hypnotic trance
conjuring up illusions of grandeur
kept under lock and key lest detriment
comprises instructing requisite basic skills per youngest progeny Shana
the punim in question recipient of private lessons
in the rudiments of classroom ABC's
yet a quiet riot along the super hidden highway within my imagination
achingly longs to compose a poem for this righteous dignified dame
whose voice like melody ineluctably seduces me and athletic physique
goads this married father to attempt some organization of his awakened
dormant libido (bereft within thine marriage) toward some unknown outcome
without intent to convey other than a message of unequivocal charm
minus any additional intent for physical interaction.

Turned down the alley that led to my street
walked in the door tired and beat
On my desk were a stack of bills piled high
was overwhelmed so I shuffled right on by
Felt dead, went to bed with a pounding head
When I woke, my apartment was a rickety shed
I looked down and observed a purple dirt floor
The sky was bright yellow when I opened up the door
Black stars overhead in the middle of the day
In the water of a pond I saw leopards at play
A hippo sleeping high, top a coconut tree
He opened one eye to take a look at me
Tried to keep my cool as I walked on through
At this point that was really all I could do
There were clouds made of bees floating over my head
Dripping honey on the grass that was crimson red
I awoke once again with a heavy hangover
You would think that by then my dream would be over
But when I went out the door, what did I see?
The hippo sitting high in the coconut tree
He winked and he nodded with a gap toothed smile
I decided to go back to bed for a while...

Couplet
your voice broke through
the hanging and dirty clouds
of verdict’83,
marching on your smoking boots
you led the parade of khaki vultures to scavenge
on the chest of our motherland
you tilted your beret
and rested your military
pot belly
in the peppersoup joints
of ibadanland
in the twilight of another dawn
your voice whistled the gap-toothed
march pass of maradona
you began to waddle
and saddle your green belt
with machiavellian joker cards
you murdered sleep
at the dawn of hope’93
you set drums and cymbals
singing a dirge on the grave
of our hope
what an open grave
you dug, waiting to receive
corpses as landmark
of your blind madness
your stoned faced goggle
threatened the moon
of our motherland
you mowed our fathers
you drove our brothers
aborted the pregnancies
of our mothers
brutalize our sisters’ virginity
with the nozzle
of your gun
your madness challenged God
you killed saro wiwa
enveloped ogoni
with blanket of agony
the Niger Delta, you irrigated
with blood of our sons
how can we remember you?
let your silent grave
speak about the agonizing
loneliness trailing your
path to the table of history.

Picture day a day that I from self consciousness detested
add to my gap toothed grin wild eyed and unrested
In first grade sitting next to a handsome young man in a suit
Bouncing along on the bus ride motion sick to boot
The stress of the day tipping the scales on me
and his closest pant leg
Humiliated my sister rushed up his pardon to please
Kindly beg
He put his arm around my heaving shoulders
And said
You couldn't help it honey, and against him lay my head
Home permed ,disgruntled ,with stain
on my dress
This young man's kindness I can attest
Went well above and beyond as did my breakfast

'Round here it's winter, cold as hell
Down there the chosen, a few lucky boys
answer the call of the Opening Bell
~ Spring Training in Arizona
They jog out to the field for the first time
That feeling of renewal, mighty fine
limber up with stretches and beer
~ Spring Training in Arizona
Back in the Heartland, north winds blow
frozen fingers, shoveling snow
as They job along and toss the pea
~ Those Lucky Boys of Summer
One by one they step to the plate
their first few swings like rusty gates
Then the base hits, line drives, begin
banged out by boys -- now men, with
gap-toothed smiles and devilish grins
