Sonnet Doubles:

First sonnet

Let Truth Burn Away Your Deceptive Cloak

Let truth burn away your deceptive cloak
lower vanity's shield, go have a smoke,
even if, a diamond, in love's gold crown
life shows greater rise, after falling down!

In vanity's false, self-proclaimed state
live many victims of their own dark hate,
darkness, its power holds so many keys
to locks and chains, stopping those who would flee!

Look inward to devilish chains of hate
beg mercy and tempt not, a darker fate,
seek the moment, to let kindness prevail
cross joyous oceans under, pure white sails!

Black cloud that holds, your happy life at bay
Is but selfish sin, you have given sway!

Robert J. Lindley, 11-20-2019
Sonnet, ( Living in this dark world, one should seek waiting light )

2nd sonnet

When Night Comes, Be Not Afraid Of Its Dark

When dawn sends rays of hope into your life
allow its golden glow, to wipe away strife
rise to give deep thanks and bow head to pray
seize its power to keep dark world at bay!

When new day, brings a stormy afternoon
believe brighter times will be coming soon
hitch your horse to wagon and give free reign
to trod to heart's true desire and remain!

When night comes, be not afraid of its dark
although new scenes may be scarily stark
have faith that again com'eth morn's first rays
blessings sent to all who sincerely prays!

Fear apathy that oft birth newfound woes
And world's black lies that cry-- anything goes!

Rhyming Doubles On My Muse's Stern Command

He who Lives, to green woods explore
and bathe in glowing moonlit streams
shall find his Love, begging for more
than pale ghosts in late midnight dreams!

She who his hot passion bestirs
in its fires, warms her eager heart
asks not for gold, diamonds or furs
instead, he a sweeter path chart!

He that her hand truly adores
in her light and grace, truly shine
oft wades along paradise shores
where sincere poets oft opine!

She that in his stead, falls to pray
accepts life's wrath and its dread
as for his sins she must then pay
sorrows born, when to death he fled!

He who lives, to green woods explore
and bathe in glowing moonlit streams
shall find his love, begging for more
than pale ghosts in late midnight dreams!

I Then In Silver Silence Fell

My muse cried in my night dream,
to you, I gift a lyric sweet
so your honor you may redeem
and thus your hide, I will not beat!

I wept, you are oft my sad woe
in humble pride, I write my tales
caring not which way each spell flows
thus with freedom, my true ship sails.

My muse, to this cry was bemused
but with anger great, she then rose
tis' I that you truly abused
after I your worthless hide chose!

I then in silver silence fell
and in my morrows, saw so true
I had her under my dark spell
and thus my freedom could renew!

My muse cried in my night dream,
to you, I gift a lyric sweet
so your honor you may redeem
and thus your hide, I will not beat!

Note:
Sometimes you just gotta cut loose and let the
captive rhymes dance and outward flow....
as in verses from a past youth's meandering
and lighthearted compositions....
As in the in the dark abyss of *Dark verse* one can not be embrace its blackness for too long.

Aphrodite, In Sweet Dreams Of Bliss I Cry Out To You,
Sonnet Doubles

Aphrodite, princess of my romantic dreams
burning flames to my heart's inner desires
your beauty gifted, a poetic soul redeems
goddess of love, true love that never tires.

Underneath moon's golden rays and heavenly nights
we meet, in a dreamland made just for two
your vision bringing forth love's most sensual light
passionate touch, Cupid's arrows shot true.

Aphrodite, no heart can your deep love deny
or satisfaction from your every kiss
you are soft twinkle of stars in radiant sky
epitome of love, life, joyous bliss.

Within this heaving breast, is your heart to now hold.
Your passionate embrace, I am forever sold.

Remember All That Glitters Is Not Gold

Within a silken tapestry of dreams
are golden orbs of glittering treasures
life is too often not what it may seem
if we in haste seek only our pleasures.
Far better to view Nature, its beauty
as if a mere child just learning to walk
knowing life is a gift not a duty
we oft may learn more without idle talk.

Cease snatching up offerings this world casts
those tempting traps that look to be so free
Ulysses was pleading, bound to ship's mast
to jump overboard, drown in raging seas.

Remember all that glitters is not gold.
Bountiful are worldly lies we are told.

What Great Love, Our Memory Shall Remain

What is left when I am buried and dust
ancient grave upon which a white-stone rests
vanished shades of a future we did trust
as if that one great wave would never crest!

What great love or memory shall remain
when deepest of sleep, centuries accrue
will it matter wealth, worthless earthly gain
as paying of the pied piper comes due?

What truth, shall weigh in as one's repentance
when exposing light shines its judging gleams
will sad regrets reduce final sentence
or give power to mercy craving dreams?

Pray tell, can great sorrows yield forgiveness?
Birthing mercy a gift, divine kindness?

Fate Peeled Back Its Deepest Dark Curtain

Fate peeled back its deepest dark curtain
leaving nothing to chance, all certain
this year the bravest of heroes dies
golden streets flooded with angel cries.
What justice, one so young shall perish
midst of love of those he so cherish
roars not a harder, greater anguish
than living through and in pain languish
With hunger for life, for love's sweet touch
so cursed and sadly fated such
Fate, its massive powers so decreed
greatest hero on battlefield bleeds
steps into eternity, no seeds
grave now hidden by overgrown weeds!

Premium Member Twelve Doubles

A guy ran into my Vegas bar, seemed to be in quite a panic.
When he ordered twelve doubles of my finest whiskey,
I thought, “Who orders twelve doubles? This guy must be manic."

Now, in Las Vegas, “doubles of your very best” are never cheap,
Twenty bucks and more in bars all over town.
Get a little crazy and your tab can get quite steep.

“Twelve doubles, Buddy? You sure that decision’s sound?”
“Twelve doubles, Mac. Please…and make sure it’s your best."
So, as fast as I poured doubles, he would throw’em down.

He drank them without a wince, a shiver or a shake.
It was something to behold....amazing in a way.
I had to wonder, “Just how much can he take?”

But after five or six, I said, “Slow down… you’re drinkin’ these too fast."
He didn’t slur his words and what he said made perfect sense.
“Mister, If you had what I got, you wouldn’t try to make’em last.”

“Well…..what’ve you got?” I decided to ask.
He gulped down two more and smiled.
“Eighty five cents and an empty flask.”

What Of Humanity, Life And Happiness Lost

Dark spirit, sad heart battling against mortal mind
sad breath of warfare and its slashing bloody blades
aftermath, in death's red-gore, truth hard to find
and those so slain, sad march in Hades' ghost parades!

What of Humanity, Life and Happiness lost
gleaming bright dawns millions will never again see
woe, hideous price paid, at highest of dear costs
dregs of hate and unseen loss to both you and me!

Can living bring joy, or loving bring needed peace
will death with its red-laced hand our demise delay
or Time, its steady winds bring that sweetest release
as blood-lust power demands war forever stays!

Alas! We each must face world's ravenous deep dark!
In this churning ocean, hide from Death's hungry shark!

Flames Cooking, Life's Slow Coming Feast

Meat in black iron pot stewing
while life's troubles are dark brewing
night brings its hidden blacken paths
frailty of flesh in its deep wraths.

Flames cooking, life's slow coming feast
wicked the meal ate by the beast
night only dies when sun peeks out
morbid loud moans racing death's shout!

Pot now steaming, flames shine below
futile dreaming, pain all poets know
in the oven, baking fresh bread
please free me, words too often said!

Black curse meal cooked by hungry beast.
No time to wretch, rancid the feast!

Beauty Doubles

See beauty! hosts and guests double beauty.
They double beauty with their gorgeous hue;
How so serene, so tranquil this scene to see,
Green when doubly mixed with white and blue.

Deep Within Woes Of Love's First Dying Breath

Lost, I am not there, you can not reach me
woe, dark and naked- all life is not fair
tho' heavy blows hurt, they do not teach me
nor my rebellion prove I do not care.
What cost, does battling iron hard life gain
woe, will not victory's breath life thus save
man's heart from torn soul, fated shards of pain
in raging wrath, I slay dear hope I crave!
Morn's frost, its gem glows, penetrate my haze
woe, dare I entreat its whispering calls
in my own retreat, cast aside love's craze
storm the dark castle, burn its wicked halls!

Lost, I am not there, you can not reach me.
Tho' heavy blows hurt, they do not teach me!

Within Stone, Writhing Silently To Step On Out,
Sonnet Doubles

Within stone, writhing silently to step on out
not to atone but rather to cry and loud shout
on sorrows born of paths blind to reality,
falsehoods created by man's ingenuity!

Within dark winds, churning up ghastly gusts of hurts
nothing defends, raging evils in gushing spurts
or those pains birthing deep searing relentless aches
shattering love as its romantic passions break!

Within dying lights, remnants of hope and regrets
can woes, shortness of life be as good as it gets
echoes of nights, shades of Poe's pain in black abyss
and weeping tears remind of that last goodbye kiss!

Within stone, writhing silently to step on out.
Not to atone but rather to cry and loud shout.
