Best Dolce Poems
Cradled by a hammock
with the sun shining in.
Coddled with Summer fun.
Ice cream’s dripping
from a whopping sugar cone.
It’s sweet to do nothing
but tongue the licks
and swing in a basket
in the zephyr wind.
It’s sweet to read a book
as I settle in.
My heart can race,
with adventure and romance,
with eyes darting back and forth,
but the cushions are at peace,
except when I subtly shift
crossing my knees.
Counting sheep on staycation.
Letting midday, flow from the windows,
light up my quiescent countenance.
Occasionally I exercise my thumb
with a thumbs up. I hope someone
is cooking ‘cause it’s sweet
to do absolutely nothing at all.

Everyone is an island everynow and then
and everynow and then I am an island too
till... I see the first flower of Spring blooming in my garden
I hear the little bluebird singing on my porch
I feel the warmth of the sun melting on my skin
till...I watch the floating clouds pass by almost like candyfloss
I hear my neighbour saying hello as she walks her dog
I smell the fresh air,and hear my own breath mingle inside me
I look around and feel serenity just being in the moment
Cos for just a moment I can think, for just a moment I gaze in the celestiene sky
to find the most colourful rainbow arching my own soul
And peace surrounds my heart, knowing how lucky I am to be here
how precious i must be through the eyes of my Creator
to bless me in such ways,to give me all these treasures
So happy I am today ,so happy for each dawn and every sunset
for each breeze ,every star and rising moon ,for each child yet to be born,
for every dream and wish which falls and carve the multi hued soft silken sand
So happy I am for all that was is and ever will be
So joyful this silence within me as I walk by the shore
so close to the sea which wafts and splash gently on my toes
so happy to feel like the first leaf at fall, alone but never alone
So joyful in knowing ....Life is beautiful.

The only ounce of energy I'll be expending today
is having picked up a pen to scrawl these lines...
"I have declared this to be Dolce Far Niente Day."
Enjoying the sweet life, doing nothing by design.
I'll be spending time as I desire lazing in a chaise,
pretending I'm vacationing in the hills of Tuscany
whose orchards are heavy with grapes I must praise
for the mellow flavor of the fine wine offered me.
I will indulge myself enjoying their sweet bouquet,
malingering while listening to Chopin's Polonaise.
It's my intent to hold an annual Dole Far Niente Day
and have it last 'til stars ignite the night sky ablaze.
I will enjoy pampering myself with nothing more to do
but gaze on the clear blue waters of the Ligurian Sea.
Nothing will be hampering my idle nor twist it askew,
for I'll pay no heed to misgivings while in this reverie.
No more writing for I've taken good measure this day.
Pool waters are calling me, where I'll float peacefully
as twilight darkens. I'll take pleasure as I gently sway
in a hammock, content to stare at the moon dreamily.

Turning sideways, once more I lay crouched in bed,
Not compelled to wake up and run round the clock.
The family, gone on a four-day adventurous trip.
Left to myself, may I devour this calm with none to block.
Listening to the hiss of falling rain, here I lie.
The breeze that steals in through the window ajar,
Tousles my hair and briskly passes,
I hear a Bulbul warbling from a tree afar.
Snuggling beneath my woolly blanket,
With deadlines none, I feel so light.
Lazily watching the sun beams filtering down,
I lie quiet, my mind, like a bird in flight.
Now the house is empty with my own space,
To indulge in all fanciful things that gladden,
To indolently watch the time slipping by,
To hum and sing in gay abandon.
Loneliness, at times I warmly embrace,
When exhausted with life’s ceaseless mess.
At times I crave for dolce far niente
It sure can revamp lives with occasional recess.

"Buonjiorno carina, hello sweetheart"
he says with a smile and a stroke of goatee
Her acqua di Gio is fantasy art,
un dolce far niente that lingered in scent;
"La Spiaggia, the beach?"
he points on to it with a grin and two roving eyes.
Her manners are suave she just smiles then moves on
"Ti Prego, I Beg You "
he says as he follows the trail of her sensuos bod,
lost in the luxury of un dolce far niente;
"Arrivederci amore mio, goodbye my love"
she whispers to the air that clings to her sultry dress.
Scattered showers of desire run through his veins,
she's Italian this vixen and only she, holds the reins.

Il doce far niente - - -
the sweetness of doing nothing
That's my conviction
as I'm living
life as a Poet.
It feels as if
I'm doing something constructive
as I work on poems
Time passes so swiftly
It's like I'm
encompassed in a dream
while I go about
my daily ritual.
It's a sensation
of serenity, contentedness
that goes beyond
mere expression with words
It's casual and concrete
all in swift actions
that lift me to a higher loftiness.

The thing I must do’s just the thing I can’t.
It’s my artistic nature, I suppose.
Impatient, volatile and – heaven knows –
disposed to overthrow, subvert, supplant,
less drawn to things that are than those that aren’t.
A deft, exquisite ode trumps plodding prose;
four hours of labour, twenty of repose.
An acquerello, limber, quick, you’ll grant
is more attractive than your slippery oils,
since easier to manipulate. You see,
I’m not the turgid type that, tortured, toils
for excellence unshaped, illusory.
I’ll take it if it surges, fizzles, boils
and masters me. If not, I’ll let it be.

La Dolce Vita Part One
How sweet life is, indeed!
The air we breathe, our nightly rest.
Think back about your very first
steps.
You played games outdoors with
your nose not stuck to a screen.
You romped in the woods ever so
merrily.
Days of conviviality with no fear.
Just endless days and nights
with parents and friends, we held
so very dear.
Life was just beginning for us.
Most of us went to Church and
learned who created the Universe.
We learned the Ten Commandments
that applied to men and women...
one and all.
Our countries stood tall and
proud. We loved our countries
proud of its flag and song.
Leaders were respected not
humiliated or the butt of jokes.
Times horribly transformed..
When God was shown the door
and our country and leaders
we abhor.
The New Bible is the deceitful and
devilish fourth estate,
That has made us hate each other
without reason or debate.
The time has come my friends
To get a grip, return to reality.
Love all and create a new world,
That is ours and for those yet to be.

Life of the holy man, sequestered, unnatural
A fancy hat atop his red gown for his alleluia…
Down on the lowly branches lands a red bird
On natural wild wings he sings a mating woo
Loved for his striking feathers, he’ll fare well
Colors of precious blood, make him a mystic
Earning him spiritual powers so pagan-native…
Vying hardest is that cultivated flower of luv
In petal form perfected long before the magi
The original scented pinks lost to red pursuit
A root’s kumbaya unheard as her thorny plea…

Acrostic
The sweetness of doing nothing in a day
On umber earth and mid birds singing in spring.
Spending leisure time in a suspended
Bed hung up by each end between two trees.
We sit gazing at the heavens in the clear night sky,
A theater of dancing stars flitting with the moon.
Hymn lull of tickling leaves as the breeze blows
Through; its slender tendrils raking through.
Soft glow; against the wakeful night darkness
As the moon dappled light pirouette on our face.

THE BENCH BY THE LAKE
In the cold fall morning,
the bench by the bay lies empty,
do I vision what the bench envisions?
in the vast scenario of nature.
The sight from the bench must be enchanting,
it must be wonderful to watch flock of geese and ducks frolicking,
the sight of mist rising from the lake and meeting the skies must be subliming;
the colorful aura of the sunrise and sunset must be stunning.
The echoes of the music around the lake bench would be exalting,
The chirp of birds and the buzz of bees must be entertaining,
The music of creeks and crackle of children must be soothing,
The sound of wind fluttering the colorful sails must be exciting.
The scent around the bench must be tantalizing,
The smell of perfume of eucalyptus and pine must be stimulating,
The aroma of variety of food must be appetizing,
The fragrance of cherry blossoms and flowers must be enticing.
The bench is always anxiously waiting,
To give a place to rest to the weary and the tired,
The bench is always ready to embrace,
The engravings of throbbing hearts which long to be tied.
The bench gleefully adores the bonding of moms and infants,
It cheerfully watches the hugs and kisses of admiring lovers,
It reflects on the life's reflection of graying couples,
It waits to share the joys and pains of many lives.

Dolce far niente – it’s sweet
to do simply nothing. So say
those who find idleness a treat.
We should try this Italian way!
For a change – eat lunch all alone.
Dolce far niente – it’s sweet.
Turn off the TV and cell phone.
Meal time does not have to be fleet.
Take your lover’s hand; walk the street.
Leave behind dishes in the sink.
Dolce far niente – it’s sweet
to pass time not just in a blink.
Feel no guilt just to sit outside.
Neighbors with a smile you can greet.
Dream a little dream; in peace abide.
Dolce far niente – it’s sweet.

Sunshine glistens through the oaks and pines, trees
Revealing the wonders of God’s sweet light
Hearts reminded of those who’re so at ease
Washing away the cares who’re just not right
Since we’re yearning for the joy in leisure
Revealing the wonders of God’s sweet light
Relaxing brings us our greatest pleasure
Twisting dreams so we are clearly inspired
Since we’re yearning for the joy in leisure
Unsure what it feels like to be retired
Set for the sweetness of doing nothing
Twisting dreams so we are clearly inspired
Comforted by the repose of this thing
Where the heart rains hopeful inspirations
Set for the sweetness of doing nothing
Heartened to feel the sing-song sensations
Sunshine glistens through the oaks and pines, trees
Where the heart rains hopeful inspirations
Hearts reminded of those who’re so at ease

'dolce far niente', is an Italian idiom means 'sweetness of doing nothing
It's humdrum of work twenty four seven
thrumming a suffocated heart to burnout
too many tabs open in frantic switching
moments of leisure in despair and doubt.
Can't I pause a while to look around nature?
a peacock dancing to tunes of a cuckoo,
when worries vanish in a world of euphoria
lying on a hammock, there's nothing to do.
A simple miracle, the two little sparrows,
captivated I ask, what are your names?
they flit around, twitching with a squirrel
finding hidden nuts, adventure fun games.
Mr Time is no warden...dolce far niente
in shade of siesta, there's no feeling of guilt
no gems sparkle, only with uncut diamonds,
precious spare moments, a Heaven is built
