I was a planetary climatologist, who studied climate variability and change,
Like sweet variability of stunning, green tulips, in lavish garden rearranged.

Studying the said effects on the biosphere, absorbed so many daily hours,
Like industrious days of fragrant, amber honey, after tumbling into flowers.

My labors impacted energy usage, along with food production and health,
And the survival of endangered species, like golden rays of natural wealth.

Faddish flowers fascinated friends, who flattered them, at my broad fence,
Under fleecy, lemony clouds, fast moving, and orange sun, grown intense.

Famished, feasible family feasted, in lavish flowering fragrance of Fridays,
When fugitive, frosty stars flickered, winking at green garden bonsai trees.

I lived in the house of emerald echoes, in vivid memory of nature's sound,
From birdsong to crickets to evening wind, and brook of babbling renown.

Sachets swept away a sudden sadness, as robins sought another summer,
On my street of starry-eyed forget me nots, like a tune with no drummer.

Nobody knew latest neighborhood news, like my nearest friends next door,
Like chameleon sun, crisscrossing teal sky, wholly ignorant of 'nevermore.'

Pink birds were living high, and red butterflies viewed a world, ultraviolet;
And yellow bees went about their sweet labors, since queen bee desired it.

Strawberry clouds sailed around the world, for clouds ever love adventure,
As dogwoods barked in summer's dog days, during a gold noon surrender.

As I was walking home one day, the sun vanished as skies turned ominous.
There was a lightning flash just before the thunder, loud and cacophonous!

Suddenly, I saw a male face in the clouds, that was bellowing and enraged,
Like blizzard winds through naked trees, howling at a lush year that's aged.

Taken aback, like butterflies in gusts, I had come face to face with thunder-
The mighty, furious face of the storm, and I was filled with sudden wonder!

Then came the silver rains, sideways slanting, at the dead end of drought;
And I raced home like all uneasy nature, in the successive hours of doubt.

Scintillating sun had returned next day, after banishing the tangerine mist,
As benevolent nature was no more angry, its tale ending in an orange twist!

We loaded up for a Sunday drive
The Ozark Mountains were alive
Wild dogwoods of pink and white
Every shade of green in sight
Blooming jonquils and daffodils
Woodpeckers, blue jays, and whippoorwills
Even though the painting was unfinished
Nature's bounty was being replenished

On switchback mountain roads
Past gray bluffs where eagles abode
A long slow roller coaster ride
With buzzards feeding alongside
Headed to our favorite place
A canyon God's finger had traced
Where echos and memories yearn
Friendly fires cleanse and burn

The raccoons, the skunks and the deer
Cared less that we were here
A nervous lizard escorted us to the creek
Clear running ice water froze our feet
A white misty blanket of fog
Spread out for the picnicking frogs
The rocks played a gurgling tune
In the middle of Mother Nature's bedroom

Sitting under a cottonwood tree
It all comes back to me
Generations of family laughter
Roaring in the treetop rafters
I saw an old man with his two sons
In shadowed waters catching crawdads for fun
My children's voices heard in the wind
As they both were learning to swim

I started coming here at age five
We've camped here hundreds of times
Back then this water was deeper
Each year the stream grows weaker
But time's wind blows no weather vane
All around memories remain
I come here a lot to look
And color in my life's coloring book

Premium Member Glorious Autumn

Autumn’s story is full of rustic shades
that echo deep from every vale and hill
of splendor and of forest colonnades,
as one by one leaves float and spin and spill
in frosted shadows and in evening’s chill

Dogwoods change,in carmine escapades,
to celebrate old summer’s standing still
Scarlet leaves and shades of marmalades
Shiraz, Claret and Burgundy distill
bright tones of nature for the soul to swill.

Amber, apricot and goldenrod brigades
capturing our gaze and hearts to thrill
Piles of forest treasures spillIng in cascades
with dappled browns and caramel’s goodwill,
All opulence of Autumn to fulfill

Premium Member Stay Longer, Spring

Although near June casts its heated upswing
Vibrant weaves of blooms adorn field's aisle ...
‘Oh, let me relish five more days of spring’
Where tulips and dogwoods pose to beguile!

Premium Member Remember When

Remember when we walked across the field
Leaves of autumn crunching beneath our feet
The color of the trees was what appealed
Maybe to be alone, our love complete
Those red and yellow leaves seen were replete
Holding hands in anticipation then
Once behind the growth hidden in the glen
Your kiss 'pon my lips set dogwoods ablaze
Long as memory holds visit again
When autumn's angular sun shines its rays

Premium Member Wildflowers

Aspen leaves flutter like birds
as a breeze ponders the lake's surface
and I brush away a willow leaf of cold jade.
Soon there will be a face in the moon
with its familiar brow arched
over what should be cornflowers
now residing beyond the lambent braids
of feral rye and muscled hillocks.
A miracle in cerulean sprouts in distant concrete,
a bluebell behind a sheet of glass,
unaware of the secret I share with wildflowers,
nor a memory of snow where appeared
an epiphany of morning glories.
I stumbled a dandelion kiss
to be blown on one's lashes, but it disappeared
in a gust of diesel smoke, the shriek of pads
on brash steel.

The rings of felled dogwoods measure seasons
cyan skies ignore. Each spring revealed the promise
of lapis daisies, the rush of violets.
Late summer left barren spikes of amaryllis.
It's been many thaws since I awaited the shy crocus.

An Guests bunnies and squirrel’s join the celebration.

Premium Member Robins Land

A flock of robins land
Devour all the worms
Eat the oak's acorns small
And swiftly disappear
Come again as spring enthralls

A flock of robins land
Upon the green front lawn
Trees suddenly revive
Green leaves slowly emerge
Nature begins to thrive

A flock of robins land
Soon dogwoods' blossoms white
Open at crack of dawn
It unfolds 'fore my eyes
Deers deliver those fawns

A flock of robins land
Their melodic songs touch
Upon frost-kissed cold grass
Symphony of joy on earth
Vibrant red breast contrast

After winter’s cold, Apple Blossoms unfold.
Bright, fresh spring brings Bluebells to behold.
Cheery Blossoms burst then dance to ground.
Delightful Dahlias bloom spring all around.
Eastern Redbuds warm cold winter emotion and
Fresh Freesia compliments each spring notion.
Gardenias touch each faith-filled belief.
Hardy Heath hones its spring dream leaf.
Impatiens show the power of flowers.
Jasmine’s scent is softly layered while
Kangaroo Paws hang from the upper air.
Lilacs quench thirsty human eyes as
Magnolias generate sincere, awed sighs.

Nippon Spirea buds use spring to tantalize.
Orchid blooms are a spring-spectacular and
Prime Primrose buds are ever popular.
Quality Quince pome fruit is a beauty.
Ready Ranunculus do their spring duty.
Springtime Sweet Peas and Spirea do their part.
Tender Tartarian Dogwoods warm our hearts.
Uplifting Ursinia blooms heed spring’s call.
Viburnum clusters daintily enthrall
While Wax flowers please us, one and all.
Xeranthemum Sunflowers’ charms never lack.
Yellow Anemone’s sweet power packs and
Zennias’ zest tell us that spring is back.

Across the River Thames

The mist in Regent Gardens air
awakes a single rosebud there.
Her scent drifts past Trafalgar Square -
England’s summer has begun.

The rising sun above the Thames
shines brighter than a crown of gems;
peeks through the panes of Buckingham
until the day is done.

Saint James Park invites the dawn
as sunbeams nudge the regal lawn.
Grass blades spread their arms and yawn:
"Good Morning, Summer day!"

Big Ben chimes a fond embrace
whilst daybreak warms his noble face.
Tower Bridge can sense sweet grace -
Summer’s song is on Her way.

Chiffchaffs adorn the royal parks
as children’s voices trill like larks.
Blooming dogwoods deftly bark
in praise of Summer’s song.

Purple lilacs perfume the breeze.
Lombard's merchants aim to please.
Harrods unfurls green canopies
to shade the heated throng.

Piccadilly Circus burns so bright.
Vibrant neons illume the night.
A merry moon beams with delight -
enthralled by Summer’s spell.

Bells of St. Paul sing me goodbye,
as o'er the River Thames I fly.
My heart begins to sigh, as I
bid my London Summer - farewell.

A Dogwood tree I planted
In a sunny spot
While the birds were singing
And the sun was oh so hot
It reminded me of you Love
White and pointed flowers
And oh so fragrant its smell
The nostrils infused for hours
The bees and butterflies
Wafted gracefully by
To sip of its pollen
None of them too shy
And oh how lovely
A Dogwoods' flowers
Like white stars pinned on a tree
Picked from the skies at night
And glued so gracefully
Of all the trees I admire Love
I truly love Her so
Except in the winter
When her blossoms
Disappear beneath the snow.

Welcome Autumn

The lovely smell of roses,
upon a Summer breeze!
Robins in the treetops,
singing happy melodies!

Precious purple, violets,
dandelions, in gold!
Queen Annes Lace on hilltops,
are treasures, to behold!

Spice Bush with its fragrance,
dogwoods bloom in white!
Bluebells in their sunny glow,
it's Summertime, all right!

However, Summertime is fading!
Autumn's on its way!
The sky's a greyer shade of blue,
soon we'll see a shorter day!

Trees will soon be changing,
to colors of the Fall!
Red and rust and yellow,
as they're standing, straight and tall!

Meadows, no longer green,
the grass will soon be brown.
But, Autumn will be beautiful,
as leaves fall to the ground!

Apple trees, in orchards,
with fruit both red and gold
will soon be, at roadside stands,
waiting, to be sold!

It's a fact, that Fall is on it's way,
right now, Summertime, is king!
But, vibrant colors, cooler nights,
means, Autumn"s in full swing!

A winding road, up through the trees, finds California gold
The heart will race, and breath escapes, to see this land unfold!

Dad cherished, this, his boyhood home, a wonderland to view
and shared with us the years he grew, into a the man we knew
A home he loved so long ago, but never quite outgrew

Our family albums back at home, held pictures of lost years
When Gramps had been a mountain guide, my heritage is here

When summer came and school was done,..our family couldn't wait
To camp, explore, and marvel ore', this jewel at Heaven's gate
No picture, song, or poetry, prepares astonished eyes
The valley called Yosemite, invites a heart's delight

Hidden in the canyons of Sierra's mountain glade
Immortal is a valley, which was carved by glacier's blade
Winter melts to spring, again to quench the giant trees
Dogwoods lace the forest floor, azaleas scent the breeze
Redwoods dig their roots between the stones that reach the sky
Earth and sky meet hand in hand, where eagles nest and fly

The Bridal falls, the granite faces, we stuttered to describe
The meadows green, the mirrored lakes, Ahwahnee lodge resides..
The Mercy River cools the brow, in awe of what surrounds
Embrace the peace as evening falls, that mummers nature's sounds

El Capitan, and Half Dome seem to reach the stars so high
Reflect upon old stories told of fire in the sky
A fire built upon the cliffs, then sounds of ancient cries
A call from down below would rise,... would echo from above
And rocks would pour a flaming veil, and spill a song of love
The call of love, from tribes that roamed, a hundred years ago

Days long ago, my childhood eyes, were dazzled under stars
We'd sit around the campfire light, he'd sing and play guitar
We looked upon the granite face of Half Dome, overhead
And watch the burning embers fall, and hear a song so sad
A native call still fills the dark, within the heart of me
A place where soft light still cascades, and Daddy sang to me

Premium Member Carpe Diem

on tree limbs jutting out over rivers
sleepy gators bask, absorbing summer’s heat
in fall, the sluggish reptiles do the same
temperatures exceed 100 in the Sunshine State
till November brings a brief reprieve

water lilies, oleanders, daisies
boast vibrant blooms until the first freeze
perhaps December
maybe January
some years not at all

as snowbirds fill beaches in fall
locals return from summer homes up north
when warm colors paint leaves
Florida’s dogwoods and Bradford Pear trees
are decked in crimson
Water Oaks sport amber coats

wild boar and deer enjoy the reprieve
romping through subtropical forests
in the welcome chill of autumn
as hikers take to nature trails

“Indian Summer” some call it
when refreshing breezes ruffle foliage
with only several weeks of autumn we’re blessed
Carpe diem, seize these moments(/center>
