Best Dink Poems
If you are of a certain age
Then you are on the brink
Of possibly forgetting
Watching “You and Winky Dink.”*
A children’s show on CBS
On Saturday each week,
It drew us in because it had
A gimmick quite unique.
For fifty cents you sent away
And got a plastic screen
With “magic” crayons that you used
As part of the routine.
The screen stuck to the TV set
And Winky Dink (a toon)
Instructed us to help him out
At moments opportune:
Connect the dots or else decode
A message being sent;
(The purchase of the screens, of course,
The studio’s intent.)
How many children must have marred
Their parents’ one TV?
For crayons used without the screen
Seems like a guarantee.
Of simpler times was “Winky Dink”
Yet see how life connects –
Those former tots still write on screens
But now they’re sending texts!
*really called “Winky Dink and You”
(a little poetic license here!)
I had an old dog, Old Dink was my pug.
He had such an ugly but adorable mug.
The nose on his face was squashed and mashed in.
And he would snort when he breathed out or when he breathed in.
He was quite a pet.
One I will never forget.
He loved to go swimming and play in the creek.
Kids all around would all come around in hopes that they might get a peek.
For old Dink loved to play.
And with the kids he would stay.
He was the sweetest of all the dogs that I’ve ever owned.
Everybody loved old Dink, he was well known.
He loved to go riding and would sit in my lap.
Strange noises he would make when he took his nap.
He was my friend this little dog that I loved so.
We could all take a lesson from little Dinker don’t you know.
Well he has gone on now to where all good doggies go.
He brought sunshine to my life in those days so long ago.
Goodbye to my friend till maybe one day our paths cross again.
Till that day happens I’ll always keep your memories my friend.
Bink and Dink took a bath in the sink
And then went skating on an ice rink
Bink met a girl
Gave her a whirl
Whilst Dink became the very first fink!
THEY OFTEN SAW OTHERS AND OTHERS WAYS
KEEPING THEIR DISTANCE TO OBSERVE AND CRITIC
WHEN THEY UNDERSTOOD WHAT WAS GOING ON
THEY BEGINNING PUTTING FACE TO NAMES
UNDERSTANDING AND RECOGNIZING
CREATING HEROS AND JEERING THOSE
WHO THEY SAW AS OBSTACLES TO WHAT THOSE
THEY FAVORED WISHED TO ACHIEVE.
SPREADING THE SUNSHINE OF NEWNESS
THEY FOUND FAULT AND WAYS TO DISAGREE WITH
WHAT THEY KNEW WAS RIGHT
AND BOUGHT WORDS AS TRUTHS TO SPEAK IN
THEIR LIMITED UNDERSTANDING OF THE HAPPENINGS BEFORE THEM.
MIGHT HIS COMPETITION DISAGREE WITH WHAT WE ARE DOING
THEY MIGHT PRAY FOR OUR DESTRUCTION
AND MAKE OUR WELL-BEING UNCERTAIN AND AT RISK.
PEOPLE WHO OPPOSE THE MONSTER OFTEN GETS STEPPED ON.
CAN WE STAND BEFORE THE MONSTER AND ANGER HIM
ONLY TO IND THAT HIS RETALIATION IS FAR GREATER THAN OUR RESISTANCE.
There was a little kitty and she had a prance in her step.
She liked jumping around, and she had lots of pep!
The world watched her joy, and they laughed at her play.
She brought happiness to everyone every single day.
We brought her home with us, and she helped our life.
She brought excitement to me and my lovely young wife.
We watched her play with a flower, it was pretty and pink.
She wanted a name so we called her Miss McToo Dink.
Miss McToo Dink was so playful and fun!
She liked to jump, hop, wiggle her bottom and run.
She brought us mice, which we did not like at all.
But we liked everything else about her, this kitty so small.

What influenced our thinking to live life as DINK’S?
It wasn’t a thought out plan or following some craze.
No thought was given, now old and alone, it stinks,
Life memories are of early retirements and 401-K’s.
Be mindful of your decisions
you get “overs” only in the game of marbles.
