Premium Member Sammy Davis Jr, Pure Talent

Sang like a whippoorwill, up high on a hill
Played trumpet like Satchmo, with panache and skill
To watch that man tap-dance, gave even Gregory Hines a thrill
As Ella Fitzgerald told us, 'Sammy's pure talent' distilled

Notes:
  1. See 'The Birth of the Blues,' (movie) c. 1955, b & w,
to view Sammy's exceptional singing, trumpet
playing, and tap-dancing ability. (4:39 clip)
2 See 'Tap,' (movie clip) 1981, to view Gregory Hines,
a remarkable tapper himself, in awe of Sammy's
       (and his friends') tap-dancing.
3 See clip of 'Ed Sullivan Show,' 1964, (3 minutes,
27 seconds) to see Ella introduce Sammy as 'pure
talent,' and then to view their incredible jazz singing.

Premium Member Kind of Blue

What is that feelin'
Creepin' 'bout my heart,
I think its kind of blue
Breakin' me apart

Fallin' into pieces
How many a heart has,
Once throbbed with neon
And all that jazz

I'm feelin' kind of blue
Not deep enough to cry,
A solemn kind of blue
Don't need to wonder why

Revolving slowly into
This somber attitude,
Azure leanin' on green
A pale, indigo mood

Muffled sounds carry
The smoothest baritone,
Over a muted trumpet
And a sad, sad saxophone

It's nothin' strange to me
Been right here before,
... Turn up the music
Slowly, close the door.

Complicated Love- From Kishiea Davis

Love can be complicated

Like a disarranged puzzle that is passed by daily

No one bothers to put the broken pieces together

All alone, waiting for that special touch

To embrace each piece with gentleness and care

When that special mind that longs to complete and discover the beautiful image

That no one has yet to bring to fruition

The smile that can be seen through the eyes which sees all the perfect imperfections

Making the puzzle so unique and dope its own way

Far from any other puzzle

Challenges unraveling this particular artwork

The optimistic mind brought to life

Which makes the appreciation last forever

Love

Complicated, yet worth the wait

Grieving Lines For the Innocent -An Elegy On the Death of Troy Davis

An Ocean of grief has welled in my soul
Grief of an orphan shrouded by injustice
And unto the legal gate of Georgia,
A thousand unjust deaths posted notice
Why should it be the innocent dove?

An amber fang of a Mephistophelian judge was imminent
Tearing all cloak innocence had worn
As holy truth assumed the position of the sun
Prime hatred was masking a noble in the court of law
And only the stainless blood of a lamb would please her rage
To atone the sorrows of a revenge-haunted family? (Truth denies)
O brothers why should it be the innocent Troy Davis?
The tears-laden heart of mine forever shall mourn his demise

His departing lines still anchor in the inner chamber of my soul
"To thee O family of the deceased cop
I may die but I am not your killer
And to thee my ruthless lethal killers
Pray for your souls for thou have soiled thy hands in my blood"
To my brothers who say it is legal
Empty your hates and embrace truth
Some things may be legal but not right
Slavery in its prime was legal
But to human dignity O brothers was it right?
An Ocean of grief has welled in my soul
Grief of an orphan shrouded by injustice
For innocent Troy Davis is dead!

Premium Member Sonata -- Lyrics

[Note: These lyrics are intended to accompany the attached “Sonata” by Chip Davis.]

When we first met and you smiled at me,
I knew right then we were meant to be,
Together always you and me,
All through the years.

And when we first touched I heard such a symphony -- it was so sweet,
As it rose to crescendo our hearts racing skipped a beat,
I held you close and we made melodies,
All through the years.

The years passed so quickly in our harmony of hearts,
Sixty years -- seems like yesterday's vow: “til death do us part,”
Oh Lord I dared not dream that you’d depart,
Our golden years.

. [Instrumental]
.
.

Now as your mourners sit in silence listen to your elegy,
The somber notes of a sonata set us free.
Lifting our broken spirits higher, memories of our desire,
For your heart and mine still beat as one.
.
.
.

When we first met you smiled at me, so sweet,
And I knew right away that we were meant to be complete
Together, always, for our love will repeat,
All through the years.

When we first met and you smiled at me, it was so sweet,
And I knew right away that we were meant to be complete
Together, always, our love will repeat,
All through the,
Through the,
All through the years ...
.
.
.

Premium Member Poem For Euna Davis

POEM FOR EUNA DAVIS

 A very throaty Warbler issued
Quavering Trills in a morning song -
As he serenaded the dew
drops on the grateful trees

Other birds were answering with
songs of praise from familiar days.
No one taught them
how to sing or gave them
the messages they so proudly bring.
Birds form near and far
joined in as if to say -

We will add our voices to remind you,
that we are cheerful and we sing for you.
We are aware-we are awake-
and we are awesome
chirping and singing our songs as
we bath in puddles of raindrops.

We remember the timing of the of the
golden and silver songsters.
Ruffling feathers coquettishly
as each song in the distance stirs
up fond memories of your existence.
The caw-caw, the peeps, and the chirps;
The caw -caw again and
the melodic harmony begins
Orchestrating the morning worship
in celebration of this life.

One songster descanted a high range
as he sang a louder pitch
Distinctly he told tales of ancestors
with welcoming smiles
.
The siren in the distance and the
overhead plane Threatened the calm
The plane resounded as thunder
above all the noise
the birds continued to sing.
I Listened as they go on to conclude
in exuberant delight Warblers warbling

Tweet- tweets deliberating discussions
many more chirp’s peeps and tweets
During the morning meditation.

As the world passes by
I'd listen to the bird’s serenade-
I'd listen to the clucks-
and the cackles, I'd listened
to the throaty warbler-
as he resumes the lead song.
The other birds in turn join in again.

The world rejoices in their songs
all over the universe-
the rest of my day
could never be as great as
the moments in the morning when
I'd meditate and listen to the birds sing.

A loved one closed her eyes
and made her transition;
The chirking birds know-
That the only triumph over
death is to have lived a good life.

So, they continue to sing.
I'd sit and solemnly listen to the message
that their chipping brings
I softly say goodbye.
We shall never forget Euna Davis
as long... As early in the morning
We be reminded in jubilant birdsong.

Hollow Inside Llewyn Davis

inside llewyn davis a chilly hollow faint heartbeat
couches ripe for self-pity's starlit sleepless night
oh freres coen what happened to
four in the morning cold baked beans
rapping about the gig
busting out bawdy jokes at sunrise
rapping arms race, civil rights, sweet sex tales
tongue tied panavision
folkman batting pretty eyelashes in pretty corduroy
coat pretty angry girl
you 've lead us through depression south, fargo,60's minneapolis, 70's LA
all that's left to say
about this
fare thee well

Dedicated To Bishop Curry, Skirving and Father Davis

Dedicated to Bishop Curry, Skirving and Father Davis

Why do some people have to be hurt?
By despicable person and treated like dirt
Trying to gun down everyone in sight
Either during day or else late at night.

Is it disorder related to a personality?
Someone who has trouble facing reality
Maybe mind warped from being mistreated
Never reaching goal and is always defeated.

Regardless of what happened God forgives
And His spirit in us does continue to live
As well as love, patience and complete purity
While we exist in his presence, not obscurity.

God's Son Jesus died to save us from sin
And later to earth will return back again
Should seek to find what They are about
And Episcopal Church be sure to try out.

That was me sitting in the front pew.

Parade For Christ By Kenny Davis

Parade for Christ by Kenny Davis

I open my eyes, excited for today
As I await the parade with Christ leading the way

His children march on with their banners waved high
Their very voices of praise lifted towards the skies

The sounds of glorious trumpets and laughter aloud
As all the songs and hymns pierce the clouds

A fellowship gathering between sisters and brothers
Showing love and compassion, cherishing one another

Watching as their flags are valiantly waved
Making a stand for the lord, in hopes that others will be saved

Songs of Zion shake the walls and rock the streets
As the children of God march on, proudly stomping their feet

Voices continue to climb, reaching beyond the gates of heaven
His followers go on for miles, marching seven by seven

To the people of the world, they proudly sing their song
Praising his holy name as they are marching along

This majestic event, monumental celebration
On behalf of the Lord, whose love serves as inspiration

The world shall witness and the people shall hear
On how the masses of God shouted and cheered

Dancing through the town with smiles on their face
As they praise the lord for his love, his mercy, and his grace

People will ask one to another, “Have they heard?”
On how the children of God marched, proclaiming his word

Showing appreciation for God who sits high
Demonstrating to the world how much he has worked in their lives

As they continue to march over the horizon in line
They continue to let their light so brightly shine

A Good Night Kiss By Kenny Davis

A Good Night Kiss by Kenny Davis

Oh! How I wish I could
Give her, but one good night kiss
Affection shown from my heart to hers
As she drifts off into a slumbering bliss

I could see laying, but a gentle kiss
Upon her soft, angelic cheek
And whisper to her, “Good night love…..”
“….I’ll await you in my dreams.”

A kiss from lips as soft
As the pillow where lies her head
Such relaxation for her that she had never felt before
That she lays her head on my chest and in my arms instead

Her ear pressed along my chest
To get the mere chance to listen to my heartbeat
Like a lullaby, music to her ears
As she drifts slowly off to sleep

As I cherish the privilege
Of watching her sleep
I think to myself, “God….”
“….I don’t deserve this blessing of having this angel of yours next to me.”

“Lord, I couldn’t thank you enough.”
“There really are no words.”
“I can’t help, but to always wonder….”
“….am I really worthy of her?”

Through all of her frights and fears
Her smiles and her tears
That when awakens from them all,
She knows that I am there

As she opens those eyes
To the blessing of another sunrise
I can’t help, but look at this stunningly, beautiful woman and say,
“Blessed is the man that wakes up by her side.”

With bright light of her eyes
Glaring from that very somber sunrise
Is the most majestic image of God’s creation
Enough to make a man cry

Cry out tears of joy, happiness
Cries of Thanks unto the Lord
For the blessing of this angel, here on earth
The best blessing, I never deserved

You would never have thought
The intimacy from a good night kiss meant so much
What it means to have our lips draw us closer
By just allowing them one last touch

Such love from a single kiss
By God, might it be made to last
Oh, but to lay, but one single kiss upon her cheek
Even if it is to be, but my last.

Nancy Davis Regan Legacy

Nancy Davis Regan Legacy

Will you stop missing him a lot;
No never, and certainly will not
And even yet she does suppose
On her forever he grows and grows.

Event though them death did part
He still remains deep in her heart
From the first time when married
And his wonderful baby she carried.

Sometimes things become extreme
As if part of an extravagant dream;
And it sure was such a lovely scene
Two of them sharing a jelly bean.

Together to heaven both have gone
And you can still see Nancy and Ron
Each of them walking hand in hand
Both still wearing their wedding band.
