Premium Member Undertow

It's like a powerful undertow that pulls you down below,
till darkness swirls around you and there's no place you can go.
It fills your head with sadness and it buries any hope,
and soon you find that sleeping is the only way to cope.

You wake up every morning with that same dark inner dread,
which leaves you feeling broken so you cannot leave your bed.
And other days you feel so low that all you do is cry,
and when it hits you rarely ever know the reason why.

It feeds upon your energy and slowly drains your soul,
and pretty soon it makes you feel that you're no longer whole.
You cannot cope with simple things like getting up to dress,
and even your surroundings start to look an awful mess.

You slowly start withdrawing from your family and friends,
which just compounds the problem like a loop that never ends.
But there is always hope as you are stronger than you know.
Just seek the help you need and you will beat that undertow.

Looking Down

If wealth is now your blessing,
what then was the prayer?
Avarice, its goal possessing,
yet in penury, despair.

I see them often in the store
eyes ahead, regard for none.
Against the classes, tacit war—
Modus Operandi: shun.

Vaunted compounds they do flout—
absent grasp of their chagrin—
for walls and gates that keep us out
are prisons trapping them within.

They say those vexed by paucity,
should flee to foreign air,
for wages here of poverty
would make them wealthy there.

Thus, high above the world they scan—
well hidden from our sight—
discounting what the common man
is suffering tonight.

1st Place: Sing to Me Contest

Prompted by the remark made on this topic by fashion company Nicole Miller’s
CEO Bud Konheim. Thanks to Roy Jerden for his thoughtful help on the fifth stanza, allowing for much greater impact.

With a special nod to the song Royals by Lorde, which has a very compatible message.

Premium Member Love Is the Force

Tender touch gently soothes an ailing soul
Wordless discourse greets eyes of love
A mother's hug comforts her child's ego
Love is the force that makes the world go

Kinder hearts ache sensing others' pain
A prayer mightily calls for suffering to end
Flowers of goodwill shed feelings of woe
Love is the force that makes the world go

Words of care resonate in any language
Noble deeds of strangers justly amaze
A message of peace triumphantly echos
Love is the force that makes the world go

Love received, gives, and regenerates
It multiplies, compounds, and propagates
Love is the force that elevates the world

Reverencing Nature

Creation energy in each atom glows.
Electron-bound sacred unity –
Thus, reverence for nature inside me grows
When I walk through rustling sheaves.
And I know in my heart power flows there,
In each cell throughout the trees –
And all the while I go with a smile,
Knowing joys that nature weaves.
By the energy bound within all compounds--
In the wind and in the trees –
A great strength from which honor mellows
Believes the joys nature conceives.

And this is why honor to nature goes,
And the universe receives: --
Form from a shapeless power emerged,
Physical matter conceives.
Afterward, substance gained its shape,
Now, the universe receives.
Tiny atoms shine their light
In each tree and in the leaves –

The beginning, surrounding as unity abounds,
Thus Pantheists…worship agrees –
Praises to nature! (a believer knows,
The universe its might weaves.)
Energy sparks verve, living…thrilling.
Starting life, an atom achieves.

Universal essence throughout nature astounds.
From one cell, another follows –
Spiritual mentality knows –
Realities sacredness nature resounds,
Within an elated heart billows,
Freeing the energy within all living souls.
Cosmic unity within man and trees –

As life’s passage one takes and of it sense makes,
Thinking of the trees and its leaves.
When, looking toward skies wherein night beauties rise
Worships nature and believes.
For thus it is, pantheist reverence nature’s pure bliss,
Adore natural matter; respect all that is.
For in trees and in the leaves –
Omnipotent universe perceives.

No Set Future

As I pass through time
in my physical vessel
I connect the rhymes,
balancing them on my mind's trestle.

My consciousness detaches
from emotion and commotion
and intricately latches
onto an outstanding, expanding notion.

At twenty-three and so onward,
with every new midnight,
and every new songbird,
my mind escalates to a new height
brilliantly brightening my eye's light.

The novelty of these audibles
inclines life to be anything but probable.
Voluble are my audibles,
relieving my eye of it's monocle.

I focus and listen
to the cosmic sounds physics has given.
Seeing the sounds, all the compounds
do abound and surround
everywhere amongst these grounds.

Strategy is imperative when dodging the chaos.
Seek those audibles which avoid pathos.
Embrace the novelty, embrace the ambiance
for the moment now is all transience.

Spending a few moments pondering

The syllogism of existentialism, and

All of the pages of histories

Finds, movements, theories and themes....

The intricities; complexities

Compounds; variables and factors

Real or imagined?

Proven, and reproven

Or, reasonings and conclusions

Breakthroughs!?

How far we've come

How far we've gone

On and on, and on and on....

Scientifical; anthrolifical; astronomical

Enlightenments, and advancements

Psychological; philosophical

Both, for me and you

That is, if we do, share

The same points of view?

Oh how I love complete silence

Stillness....

The meditation of contemplation

Trying to take hold, of the transitory

And to incise it, into forevers

Monomorphic stone!?....

Standing amid, a quaglistic earthium

Chisms of revisums; revisums, of the isms

Circular conjugation, concoursing

It's configurations....

Unbeknown, toward, a conflagration

Beyond the eyes?

Faceless Fear

Faceless Fear

Inside of me there haunts to be, a pain that never seems to go away,
Within a darkened room, of a dismal day...
Hell compounds and will confounds, my demons come out to play,
Within a darkened tomb, I faintly pray...
Help me, Lord, for I’ve cut the cord, my shifting spirit has gone astray,
A fateless fetus fume, the unborn made of clay...
Wasted years of tormented tears, progressions of my punitive pay,
Within a woeful womb, a distant dormant stray...

For fear has no face only a place, in my mind a weighted weigh,
A deceitful doom, within a guilted gray...
The fear of losing love with a shattered shove, an enigmatic inveigh,
Where the Jackals loom, a wandering decay...
The fear of losing mind only to blind the only thoughts that I portray,
Thus my fear abloom, a bereaved bouquet...
A faceless fear my soul to steer, the inner wounds need to convey,
In my darkened room of my dismal day.

An Accidental Overdose

She fought daily with the agony.
never knew when it would strike.
It affected all corners of her world
waking, sleeping, laughing, and crying.
Early one morn, she lost the battle.
Through the night she had struggled,
to rid the ache in her head.
She tried them all.
One here and one there,
still it persisted,
another, then, another.
She had forgotten the total.
The compounds crescendoed
and released an avalanche of effects.
Breathing crawled, heart decelerated
and mentation retarded.
Then all stopped.
It was an accidental overdose.
Just a girl trying to ...
stop the pain.

Decade of Bullets

Decade of Bullets

Ouagadougou, Ouagadougou, Ouagadougou
See a procession of young mothers chattering their way
From water fountains in grenade torn sandals
And blood laced bras

Somalia, Somalia, Somalia
See the moon disappearing in a mass of gun smoke
Guns splitting the stars from the skin of night

Rwanda, Rwanda, Rwanda
This is a wound from which the pus of grief flows freely
Meandering through rock masses into the valley that lost its freedom

Timbuktu, Timbuktu, Timbuktu
I hear a rush of footsteps of sorrow
Rugged peasants carrying their compounds to far away valleys of flowers

Premium Member Enjoy It

We were calculating theoretical yields on chemcollective
and somehow we ended up dancing to ”go left.”

We were finding oxidation numbers on labster
but somehow we started laughing.

We were balancing chemical equations on PhET
but now we’re singing “World we created” with hair-bush microphones.

Believe your competence - be impressed with your progress.
Attack every challenge with self-contained ease.
Armor yourself with confidence.
You’ll like the way you enjoy it.

*We started studying for school - weeks in advance of spring term - those names (Chemcollective, PhET, Labster) are tools for working out chemistry equations - like calculating theoretical yields from compounds. So we practice, practice, practice until we can do them blindfolded - or in pressurized situations like tests.

Premium Member Happy Birthday

Covid spread throughout the kingdom –
the people inside the elite compounds,
if they heard the many sounds of the
ill falling dead, did not seem troubled,
not a single head – besides, it was, for
them a special day, 60th birthday of
their consecrated God and his Queen,
to whom all will homage pay –

Politicians and Hollywood celebs alike
will take numbered turn fawning accolades
at the podium mike. Tables strategically set,
armed security carefully to vet every
privileged guest before passing the Walled
Castle-door, so not to allow Covid
to take flight and soar, spreading deadly
spore through the air – over His Majesty's
Red-carpet-floor...

There are plates with gold trim, not the
painted kind – of Twenty-four Karat as their
goblets of wine, precious silver from royal
chambers, billionaire vaults, brimming over
with champagne from prized cellars, vintage
of all sorts, tribute paid by appeasing, complicit
European Courts, with thousand dollar a-bottle
highly acclaimed ports. There will be classical
music combined with White Shaming Hip Hop Rap –
diamonds and precious other gems abundantly given
for gifts, the nation having been well sapped,
American's Treasury criminally tapped,
for the king and queen's off-road treats – while
theft and murder rages in the commoner's streets –
shortages developing to the point masses of
people will soon have little food to break-bread
and manage – to the ruling devils, simply
collateral damage....

Premium Member Soul Slipper

Twilight downs the sun as dreams appear on the screen of sleep

Slips into the subconscious realm and trips a few fuses in slumber

Adapts and clears clutter and narrates and alters the story in kind

Strips and clips a mind full of sentience like an ad-blocking app

When dreams slip into a magical edition it proofreads my soul

In magic Morpheus tenders to soft renditions and rehearses

A new dawn for sanity’s sake and rearranges bedlam in silence

Ties new meaning to fake news and spins alignments afresh

Compounds and rearranges while the curtain slowly descends

A dress rehearsal in night gown patiently waits for the curtain

A sacred orange globe dances with ripples dissected by clouds

Ultramarine parades on the fading horizon of tangerine canvas

As the gatekeeper confers with clairvoyants and hobbling goblins

The mermaids charter the voyage with sea gulls and dolphin as they

Tie holy knots onto the tapestry of fabrication and spirited truths

Sometimes my aspirations and recollections call for clean slates

When charcoal rules anthracite waves draped in sombre veils

Or polychrome splashes beg to hold on to the palette forever

Sleep brushes over karma and vagaries and tames with a stroke

Of restful fortune in infinite renditions of what the future might hold

A life line appears on the horizon anchoring a courageous flare

Regardless of whether my journey explores a secret underworld

Or ships critique onto the blatantly obvious faults in the vessel

Poseidon pumps up the raft as tears and regrets rock the boat

Blows caution to the wind and advises to hold on for dear life

Neptune challenges his counterpart and weighs for good measure

Yet Atlantis refuses to sink and Nirvana sweeps the ocean’s floor

Phoenix gathers soaked ashes while jetsam jumps into the current

When the night parades its blessing the sun resets a new dawn

The moon watches over assorted memories baggage and hope

On a Million Dead Bodies

War taught of the need for nutrition and good health,
and so Penicillin was first used on mass scale,
tin food was too, like never before,
that pill when you’re ill distributed through war.

Wellington Boots were first used with army suits,
when invaders wanted Greek ground democracy was found.

Those chemical compounds taught of nuclear doom,
while v2 rockets put man on the moon,
engines on planes were made safer,
now airplanes fly in lanes tracked on radar.

This website you’re on and the E-mails you get,
be sure you know, war made the internet,
talking of war that’s what walkie talkies were first for,
war gives us advanced things we only dreamt of before.

And I stress, without war we'd know less,
but the best lesson of them all, is, don’t go to war.

God Loves Me

"God's love fills me with gratitude" - Quote by author

Gracious Lord with love overflowing while devising,
created this universe mesmerizing
Every single element thoughtfully crafted,
an epitome of beauty, perfectly drafted

For safety our body is covered with skin,
All holes covered by hair, dirt can't go in
Our eyes have outer skin, eyebrows, eyelashes,
disinfectant water cleaning endlessly splashes

He manages internal functions of body
He has given us an automated body
Nature too functions independently
Every thing happens resplendently

Those who can't move like plant and trees
He provides for them, they live in ease
He gave utmost protection to every small seed
To ensure happiness blooms, organisms can breed

He created dynamic mesmerizing world to behold
He has given us much more than what we can hold
He has filled our life with multifarious sounds
Every time we hear them our joy compounds

He gave us variety in food and spices
So that our meal delightfully entices
Variety in his creation deserves acclaim
He ensured no two creatures are same

Still he doesn't boast, he has no ego at all
He works silently, we feel we doing it all
His love gently caresses me
I feel his presence wherever I see

God's love remains same
Whether we love or defame
We are sinning, destroying earth
Still his love has no dearth

Ever caressing wind whispers God loves me
Droplets of rain whisper he cares for me
Whenever I think how much God loves me
I am filled with exhilarating glee

Alkali Elements - Lithium, Sodium, Potassium

Part 1

Lithium, Sodium, Potassium
All from Periodic Table Group One
Their reactivity is maximum
And they affect the human condition

Rechargeable batteries use Lithium
As a component in their production
It tries to make mental health optimum
In treating the bipolar condition

Sodium is essential in nutrition
As sodium chloride salt in food for taste
Sodium compounds home products are common
Some are baking soda, soap and toothpaste

Healthy nutrition needs Potassium
A good source of it is the banana
It's used in fireworks which are awesome
And also used in plant fertilizer

Part 2

I can still remember quite vividly
Watching alkali elements' power
It was in a lab class in chemistry
Demonstrated by our class teacher

A piece of sodium placed on water
Began to hiss very furiously
It then sped up under its own power
And ran around as if it was crazy

Potassium was much more violent
It made an extremely loud crackling sound
Then suddenly up into flames it went
And scared the wits out of the class around
