Living Truth
Ancient guides of venerated truth
Stumble through numb spiritual graveyards
Where truth casts its shadow in chiseled words,
A signature of affection,
On moss bathed alabaster stones that once
Gleamed in treasures of veracity,
Autographed insights of the ancient sages
Screams out the litany of wisdom
Then begs, like balm, the insomniac unconscious heart
To intone a resurrection,
A living trove of living verbs in action
Breaking from the bondage of a chrysalis redecorated
With raw promises to shake off stagnation,
Relight the lantern star of the eternal spring’s veracity
Springing into actions that rise from stone inertia
Insight’s revelation releases a new song of songs
Truth that lives anew –
That propels the quest of new a-ha’s
That plants new reasons for renewed actions
In the waiting heart embraced.

A Scottish Drinking Song-Story
A Scotsman clad in kilt left the bar one
evening fair, and one could tell by how
he walked that he drank more than his share.
He stumbled of into the grass to sleep beside
the street.
About that time two young and lovely girls
just happened by.
One says to the other with a twinkle in her eye,
“ See yon sleeping Scotsman so strong and
handsome built, I wonder if it’s true they don’t
wear beneath the kilt?”
They crept up on that sleeping Scotsman quiet
as could be, lifted up his kilt about one inch so
they could see, and there behold for them to view
beneath his Scottish shirt was nothing more than
God had graced him with upon his birth.
They marveled for a moment then one said,
“ We must be gone, let’s leave a present for our
friend before we move along.”
As a gift they left a blue silk ribbon tied into a bow
around the bonnie star the Scots kilt did lift and show.
Now the Scotsman woke to nature’s call and stumbled
towards the trees behind the bushes, he lifts the kilt
and gawks at what he sees and in a startled voice he says
to what’s before his eyes.
“ Oh, lad I don’t know where you’ve been, but I see
you won first prize.”

My Room
Crumpled paper litters the floor
recycled thoughts returning home
my soul has become a stowaway
within each scribbled dropping
books line the many shelves
a collection of all my friends
love and companionship
need not always be reciprocated
Poet's stare at me from every wall
their words pierce my very core
for they know who I really am
yet have only seen me in their own reflection
an ivory chess set boasts its splendor
signifying the game in progress
although I find it easy beating myself
having always been a professional at it
two pictures adorn the front wall
one, a crippled lady
the other an old stray
both hold my biography
an autographed basketball
signed by inner city youths
my personal dream team
their greatest victory, still breathing
the antique radio
blares modern music
only to echo
songs of the past
a shiny 357 with one bullet chambered
to protect me from the intruder
that one day will invade my mind
I refuse to apologize for the mess.
Voices are low, and the pages unfold
Dusty worn jackets, on paper-back shores
Classics of old, or a best-seller's gold
Renaissance store, with a bent spinal core
Latitude shelves, heavy with multitudes
Autographed copies, fiction and lore
Chapters reread, opened with gratitude
Mouldy with knowledge, slumbering fiction
Sung once again, birthing new attitudes
Language and diction, viewed with conviction
I find new adventure, swimming through waves
Love's old persuation, claims my addiction
A place to spend time and stroll down a maze
find some conclusion, and leave in a daze

I'm afraid that this poem was too long to post in one part; here's Part 2, full title:
Dragons Make Great Heating Systems
(Until They Discover That There’s More To Life…)
The next month we received two plane tickets, for free,
to go out to old “CA”; his life film to see.
In a bookstore he autographed our copies and then we had tea;
the manager was told, we were his, “Family”.
“Such a gifted young dragon you folks have raised.”
He declared, he shook both our hands and pulled up a chaise.
“You folks have given us all a great gift;
your dragon, his talents, our spirits did lift.”
A free tour of the studio, we got that week and on the weekend,
we went fishing, in dragon's favorite creek.
We got autographed pictures and souvenirs’ galore;
we’d never seen such publicity before.
Back home we flew and to our surprise;
our piano, we heard, was playing inside.
“That piano is ours!” I shouted and rushed through the door;
it was no surprise; I should've known, of course.
There sat our new dragon, playing without any care.
“Welcome home”, he said, “come and see what I’ve prepared”.
He’d cooked up a giant supper, for us to eat;
it included steamed pears, cole slaw and even chipped beef.
Wine he had poured as we took our seats;
such a succulent display of tasty delicacies.
We knew what would happen, as he filled our plates;
when he showed us the cookbook, he’d written, to date.
So just know, if for heat, a dragon you choose;
be prepared with a backup, for he, you will lose.
Especially if his insomnia reigns, if he dreams, is creative;
your life will soon change.
We ate very well for a couple of years;
then our eyes, once again, shed big giant tears.
Here came the plane tickets; we had a great trip.
We toured his studio kitchen; grew larger bellies and hips.
Home once again, we received another treat;
Dragon three’s an inventor, though he can’t boil a beet.
He’s managed to build us a new heating device;
in the summer it cools, like we’re sitting on ice.
It costs nothing to run and dragon three’s fame;
We all celebrated with a glass of champagne.
All the dragons will visit, on the big holidays
and we feel very blessed, that they share our family name.
Heard the word treasure
Think of a bag of gold
Rare coins
An old book autographed by a famous author
They have a great value
Our greatest treasure is none of these
It is a treasure of life
Our lives are precious
They are not hidden
Locked in a safe place
Each day we go through fears
Hurts and Opportunities of the world
This precious treasure of life
St. Paul say says is carried in a week
Easily broken
Earthen Vessel
We are the children of Adam
In Hebrew means “one taken from the ground
The vessel is earthen
But the treasure is spiritual
One day at journey’s end
The vessel will return to its native earth
But the precious treasure it sheltered
Be presented into the saving hands of Eternal God
But we hold this treasure in earthen vessel 2 Corinthians 4:7

Empty Closets
by Odin Roark
How empty the content
Delusion's walk-in closet
Hideaway's glory
Filled to burst
Collected identities
Acquired by proxy
Guarded by duplicity's two-edge sword
Honed by loneliness
Obsessive darkness
Filled with fantasized self-esteem
Like titanium power clubs
Cradled in his and her golf bags
Overcrowding the weekend corner
Opposite nook
Knee-high leather boots and riding crop
Squeezed against stolen lawn jockey statue
Draped with fading award sashes and ribbons
A brittle rose wreath
Once drenched in winner's circle sweat
Now but an ever-withering benchmark
A once decorative memento
For glory's insatiable ego
Such becomes
Yesterday's self-worth
Today's self-loathing
Some day's garage sale
Junk heaps growing
Behind garish symbols of self-deception
Stacked boxes of innocence gathering dust
Memorabilia of childhood
Forgotten memories of broken in mitt
Paper dolls and Eloise dreams
Varsity jacket and autographed pigskin
All honesty's once joyful rewards
Stashed away
Remaining aware
And wondering
In the closet's darkest corner
A stalwart broom stands at the ready
Its gallant sweep-it-away tradition
Remains anxiety's go-to warrior
Merely biding its time
Awaiting the door to open
And...
