Buying a Bestseller

At the crowded book store People are lining up Eying an autographed copy Of a newly released bestseller. Enthusing front of the line Are the scholarly readers, Critics, and the like: Aspiring headline makers. Some have read the reviews, Some know author's bio. Staging erudite conversations Are members of book clubs. Showing off signed copies Are those of a special class. They've just the spot On their antique book cases-- Reserved for appearances. Hi Vijay, Congratulations on your win with such a very well penned poem. something i would like it share - my husband is an avid fisherman - on one of his trips with friends, the challenge was to catch a tigerfish which no one had luck with. On their way back some vendors were selling plaques with a mounted tigerfish to buy as a momentum of the area the were fishing in. One of them said I am going to buy one and say I won the contest! Needless to say, he is no more a friend! Poetry huts, JP

If a book doesn't interest me I will never read it or buy it no matter what a best seller it may be. There will always be those that love and live to impress. You convey this well in your poem Vijay! : )xxoo

This could have a deeper meaning, if it was used as a metaphor, but some may not get it... However, a great write about books...

Yes..metaphorically speaking.. some of these buyers represent those who like the spotlight..and do things so others will perceive them a certain way. Many thanks Silent One.

Hi Vijay, You did a good job on "why" a person might buy a bestseller very well. I haven't bought physical book in a long time. I read e-books these days. I enjoyed the read:-)Alexis

Some books never read. They sit there on the shelf gathering dust, but we already know the author’s heart inside of them. Someday, we will hold one of your books in our hands and honor your name with glory. Well done, my friend. Berteena

Can you imagine being at your own book signing? I think it's one of the poet's dreams! to be a huge hit!! I tried being a book club member years ago but that club just wasn't meant to be. Anyway, your poetry is inspiring some great comment here! I buy books myself mainly by what I read on the book cover. If I skim it and like what I am seeing, I will buy it regardless of whether it's best seller or not.

I do identify with your poem of books! A long story of love for books. to belong to a time when books were tremendously valued and enjoyed.. the golden age of Reading! I used to devour books! For the time being, time is devouring me! I keep reading a few pages of many a book at a time, and never could I finish one! Buying books is my immense pleasure and cure even though I don't read them wholly! So much pleased reading your beautiful and meaningful poem dear Vijay. My deepest regards. Blessings

Those that show off a bestseller in their home, just to impress others- truly are not worthy of such a purchase. Shame on them for even doing so. Most enjoy buying book of simplicity. (At least it will be opened) You have expressed this perfectly. ~ Brandy

Sadly, it's true that some people buy best sellers just to display them to impress visitors to their homes. I guess even the world of literature has its snobs. Well penned, my friend, and you cast attention on a topic rarely exposed. Hugs, Carolyn

A profound analysis of the psychology of the readers and the reasons they lead them to buy a bestseller! Excellently portrayed dear, Vijay! Certainly a book on relativity could never become a bestseller!

Yes--you are right..they don't turn a page. Recently I donated a lot of books as I have downsized..and wondered aloud why I bought some ..that I never read. Many thanks Tom.
