Best Aspen Poems
Quaking AspenWe are the high altitude sentinels.
Our small groves freckle the high plains.
We keep to ourselves, mostly
upon the snow burdened peaks
where our ashen trunks blend
and our barren branches cling
to icy white glitter.
As the breath of winter ebbs
we watch the crystal spring run-off
growing ever greener with envy...

Beneath the Ancient AspenInto a thick stand of autumn's golden aspen I flee
Dark eyes in ghostly bark faces seem to follow me
Wind whispering through the yellow leaves decree,
"Rest, child. We offer you safety and tranquility."
What voice speaks in this mysterious forest.. a tree?
If I have gone insane, I...

Where Aspen Trees Growwhere aspens huddle
in dense woods or open heaths
I often linger...
the shimmering foliage
my inebriated soul

The Devil Came To Aspen, Part Ii...The devil didn’t hide, he strutted right out,
a smile painted on his red face.
“Why my dear sheriff, how in the world
Did you ever find my new place?”
Abner stared on, seething with hate.
“An old friend told me to find you here,”
He explained, glancing up to the...

Boulder To AspenI left Friday midmorning for a weekend getaway
A four-hour jaunt to Aspen; just wanted to play
No purpose for the trip; just for the experience
New to Colorado, I desired to feel its sense.
If you would care to come along with me,
Continue reading and hear my song...

The Devil Came To Aspen, Part IIn eighteen hundred ninety-three,
back in those silver-mining days,
a figure walked into Aspen town,
and it was the devil they say,
come looking for new souls to take.
He didn’t look like you would think,
the first time he appeared.
He was dressed like any old cow-poke,
and spend hours in saloons...

Aspen LeavesDesigned sapphires - I would fondly call them,
In red, yellow and variety green;
In shapes round, oval, heart-like diadem,
With white-red blood-vessels, tenderly seen;
Like rings and ear-rings of a charming queen,
Midst floors of forests blazing with sun-rays,
Like ballet dancers, in bright garbs you glaze;
Marveling at your mellow...

Aspen Sleeps
All together groups are falling
Once to join upon the ground
Day of reckoning concerning
None recalls the former crown
Suddenly we change forever
Band together all agreed
At once to jump the tree
We join the earth delirious
A season like a day from slumber
Another generation numbered
Greater purpose growing skyward
Sleeping...

Pando Waitsin Pando's shadow a young maiden sings
wander'd to and fro peat bog feet sloshing
auburn locks adorned in daisy crowned rings
quite unaware that something was watching
one with thick skinned carion heart at core
to scavenge Middlemist's red camellia
he too delivered from far away shores
a renaissance ratel...
