Best Antioxidants Poems

Premium Member - Empty Fridge - Shopping List -

Two days ago I filled up my fridge ... now it is empty - I was expecting visit of my cousin, her husband and seven hungry children
From fairness, is food the only thing that makes life worth living?
No one has a genetic defect that causes the body to make fat out of the air ...

Refill my fridge :
One liter of milk
Two cartons of juice
(the one with apples, orange and carrots)
Butter for bread
and butter for baking
Strawberry jam (without sugar)
White cheese, low fat
Brown cheese ... I must have the mild variety
Six yogurt, with different flavors
Eggs
Vegetables: Broccoli - (rich in iron) - Carrots - (contains beta carotene)
Onions - (reduces cholesterol levels, in the blood)
Some paprika/ red, yellow, orange and green (lots of vitamin C)
... and potatoes
Pure ham, chicken or turkey slices
Lots of fruit
Sardines on box
Salmon
Tomatoes ... (antioxidants)
One cucumber ... smells so delicious
- - don't forget the bread ... hot and freshly baked ... jummy

(Sorry, there is no Coca-Cola or chocolate in my fridge)

Don Johnson's Heart Attack Fix

Don Johnson’s Heart Attack fix
Oh he drank and he smoked and lived through a war,
His arteries were blocked so they said,
Massive heart attack got him, almost for sure,
Chest tromping horses , walking the more,
Almost crushed him to death,
Driven by ambulance hundreds of miles,
A truck sideswiped it, a pest,
Up onto the footpath under awnings with style,
We aint got to the hospital just yet.
Doctor he said “stay in your bed,”
“You know them big bloody stop signs,”
So he went to bed for 2 years or so Fred,
His heart was a thumping those lines,
A book did appear that altered his fear,
Vitamin E and the heart,
It was around 1973, oh dear,
Grabbing at straws from the start,
Two thousand milligrams did he take,
The daily dose fixed him,
Went opal gouging at Lightening Ridge,
Almost buried, death by whim?
The side effect was energy bent,
You now felt so alive,
Your little friend beat you out of bed,
Pre viagra’s sexual drive.
Don Johnson
ANTIOXIDANTS ARE GOOD FOR YOU AT THE CELL LEVEL REPAIR...
I was amazed in the improvement in my Dad he got another 20 years out of that
worn out heart, his hardening of the arteries improved. He was always one for doublng treatments for best effect, the Book should still be in production in the US. "Vitamin E and the heart" The book got you back on your feet and sent you back to work:)

My mum is annoyed that she cant take vitam E with her wolfren medications,
she was on Vitamin E almost 40 years.

Seems the arteries improve the flow of blood and it thins the blood too like asparin.
Ask you doctor can you do it?

I worked with a guy in the eighties who had a heart attack, I told him of Vitamin E,
he was rejuvenated by the vitamin, and very pleased with himself!

Adding Colorful Food To Your Diet

Adding Colorful Food to Your Diet

By Elton Camp

Antioxidants are needed experts say
Eating colored food is the best way

Their wise advice I decided to apply
To eat more brightly colored I’d try

I did it because I thought I should
Even if they don’t taste very good

To my surprise, that wasn’t the case
I found a colorful food of good taste

It has red, orange, yellow and green
On each bite, two letters “m” are seen

From the pack, it is all ready to eat
There’s no need to give it any heat

Also, I’ll have you to understand,
There’s no mess made in your hand

I wish I had learned of this long ago
Because I really do enjoy them so

And the nutritionists have no doubt
Bright colors is what health is about

Premium Member Tea Can Be the Spice of Life

Because I like variety,
I’ve got many different boxes of tea upon my shelf.
Sometimes I might mix them up,
adding two different bags of tea to seep inside my glass.
Some flavors I enjoy consist of these: rose hips, jasmine,
hibiscus, cinnamon, apple spice, chamomile, mint blend,
and one called Tension Tamer! Its ingredients are
peppermint, licorice, and hops (to name a few).

“Real” tea contains antioxidants, which means
I ought to drink more of those teas than I do.
Though green tea is the healthiest, I still prefer
unique and naturally sweet herbal teas.
They have minerals and other ingredients to make them healthy too.
I enjoy a variety of them, with names like “blood red orange.”
I add a few of them together, seeping them in boiled water,
then flavoring them with honey. Ahhh, to savor nice warm tea.

Wrinkles

the wrinkles on your own hands

(no matter how many lotions you have rubbed on them, no

matter how much vitamin e oils, no matter how many

antioxidants you consume---all in the attempt to stall or

at least slow down the process)

glare

up

at

you.

the small mountains rippling along your epidermis, the

glycating process oxidizing everything, the cortisol

produced as your own body’s frantic reaction to the

everyday stressors of your chosen life---all finally add

up---

and there they are,

plain as day---

wrinkles---

those imperfections specific to you alone,

but which you simultaneously share with

every being still breathing---

those marks of age which signal the

beginning of the

end---

depressions,

furrows,

the scrunching & the

shriveling, the

folds & the

crinkling contracted corrugations---

all scream at you in unison

silently, but alas,

deadly still,

that you are mortal &

that if you own a pug or a

shar pei,

it is true what they say about pet owners & their pets

(that they begin to look like one another)---

and it will only increase,

as you both get older---

just do you best to keep your

barking to a minimum when you are

outdoors amongst the rest of

us.

Premium Member Blackberry Pie

Would you like a piece of blackberry pie?
Oh, yes, he said, oh, my, oh, my!
Blackberries are antioxidants you know.
I had no idea and told him so.

Blackberries on ice cream or even in cake.
Blackberry jam after a kiss.
Blackberry pie, it is great for goodness sake!
I salivate thinking of this.

They are a terrific source of vitamin C.
I am wondering now if I should keep all the pie for me.
And they have magnesium too, you know, he says with a sigh.
I don’t care a bit, I am dreaming of warm pie.

Blackberries on ice cream or even in cake.
Blackberry jam after a kiss.
Blackberry pie, it is great for goodness sake!
I salivate thinking of this.

He has forgotten the pie and is speaking of cheese.
I am tired of his blather and want him gone in the breeze.
So, I can enjoy the pie by myself, and eat the whole thing.
When he finally leaves, I want to sing!

Premium Member Blueberry Blue

It used to be that,
I had no appreciation
for fruit or juice.

Vegetables and their juice,
on the other hand,
I loved and still do.

Fruit was always,
for me,
an acquired taste.

Now that it’s acquired,
I can’t seem to get enough,
especially if it’s blue.

Oh, How I love blueberries!
Those sweetly sour baubles of antioxidants
mystify and mesmerize my palate.

A smoothie,
 is not a smoothie,
without blueberries.

That blue concoction of
frozen yogurt and fruit
is ambrosia.

Blueberry pie engages all of my senses;
lulling me into a world of
blue, blue and more blue…

Blueberry bread,
dipped slightly in my coffee,
a tasty treat, fit for a queen.

Fresh blueberries
roly-poly around a bowl full of
pineapple, kiwi and raspberries.

My heart drops out through the soles of my feet
whenever I cannot get them;
I am so very blueberry blue.

I rush home and meditate to calm my soul,
In front of my favorite
blue yen/yang wall.

Premium Member Hello From Dandelions

When the sun starts shining little longer
Perky, beautiful, round, yellow flowers sprout up
Being in deep love with the sun and its energy,
They appear anywhere even in small cracks of dirt

In gardens, behind rocks, on hillsides or on roof tops
On gleaming carpets of prairies and grasslands
With toothy green leaves deeply notched
Swaying merrily in spring breezes “Hello” say dandelions

Some call them pesky weeds,
Some call them stubborn breeds that never seem to leave
To some, they are edible herbs and treats
With various health benefits
Loaded with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals
Low in calories, rich in carbohydrates and fiber

After petals drop from ripen flower
Ball of parachute carrying seeds opens into a full sphere
Having rather gypsy feet after development is complete
Seeds of fluffy parachutes travel quite a bit
Gliding by air stream disperse to propagate
Turning into flowers after finding any little space

Charismatic, brilliant dandelions
Symbol of strength, optimism and eternal joy
Reminder to fight against adversities
And survive through challenges of life
While staying humble and upbeat

Pregnancy Tips For the Food To Be Eaten During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is the time when the mother’s body needs extra nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Lack of proper diet might affect the baby’s growth. Also, it might increase the risk of pregnancy complications. The body needs additional 350-500 calories each day to maintain the baby’s health. The mothers are provided with many pregnancy tips and one of them is to eat nutritious food as per.

mom and baby magazine provides a list of foods that are healthy for a pregnant woman. Dairy products provide calcium, folic acid, vitamins, magnesium, and zinc. Yogurt is also very healthy for the growing baby. Legumes include chickpeas, soya beans, peanuts, lentils etc. This group of food provides folic acid which is very essential for your body during pregnancy. Salmon, meat, fish oil are also a good source of nutrients for the baby and mother. Broccoli and green leafy vegetables are rich in antioxidants and fiber so they help in digestion and prevent constipation. Berries are a good source of iron and vitamin c. Eggs are also a rich source of proteins. Eating whole grains fulfill the calorie requirement of the body. Avocadoes and bananas are rich in potassium and thus help in relieving leg cramps during pregnancy. Dried fruits are also very good for health. Last but not least, proper intake of water and fluids is very essential to prevent dehydration.
One of the Pregnancy tips says that gaining weight is normal during pregnancy but gaining it in a proper manner is very essential. So it becomes necessary to take a proper and healthy diet.

Questions of An Alcoholic

They say one drink wears off in an hour
But what if it's a fishbowl whiskey sour
You were supposed to share, but chose to devour

They say a glass of wine is good for your heart
What size is a glass, is there a chart
Does it count if you have 6 beers before you start

I've heard that tea is full of antioxidants
Does the name "Long Island" make a difference
Tell me now so I can prepare my defense

I'm sure you've heard that you shouldn't drink alone
But what if your talking on the phone
Or your dog, Charlie, is always at home

I think all of this is just too much math
Perhaps I'll take my crown royal to the bath
I'll contemplate the consequences with a laugh
I won't drink the whole bottle, only half
I'll record my intake later, complete with a graph

Premium Member Healthful and Delicious Tea

I never used to drink sweet tea,
and neither did I drink coffee.
The one drink that my mother made
was the 60’s stand-by, sugar water called Kool-aid.
I never liked it much; I wanted pop instead.
“Pop I will not buy you,” my mother always said.
So pop became for me a kind of treat-
something other than kool-aid for a beverage sweet.

As an adult in my later years because
I wanted to be healthier, I found tea was
the best alternative for me.
I still hate the taste of coffee.
One year I went crazy and I bought
chamomile, dandelion, peppermint, licorice, green, and quite a lot
of other types of very tasty brands.
How nice it feels to have a cup of warm tea between one’s hands.
Sometimes I use stevia as a sweetener for tea.
That’s because stevia is the best one calorie-free.
However, nothing beats the taste
of tea that is with honey laced!

Boiled water with tea and honey
I sometimes put inside (does this sound funny?)
a tall container like a plastic bottle I carry.
It’s good for any drink, whether juice or dairy.
Once tea has cooled down,
it’s so convenient to carry it around.
I drink it at the place where I teach.
So nice it is to have it within reach.

So pleasant is tea’s flavor. I ought to drink it more.
But when I’m late for work, I have to leave the door
with bottled water or a second drink I like called Bai.
Tea, however, is the very best. Here’s why.
Antioxidants are what a good tea contains.
Good blood pressure and cholesterol also it maintains.
Best of all, I drink it before I go to sleep.
Two bags of tea together in the boiled water I seep.
For vitamin C, some spoonfuls of lemon I throw in.
Drinking Cokes instead of tea ought to be a sin!

Premium Member The Power of Raw Vegetables

Recently my nutritionist – a health
freak if ever there was one – suggested
I eat raw vegetables like cabbage, kale,
asparagus, brussel sprouts, cauliflower
and broccoli, all of the cruciferous family,
all packed with vital antioxidants,
vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals
and fibre, (relieving weekly straining
bouts of constipation.) As for results
he assured me with an assured smile
I’d be stronger and feel years younger,
though vouched cautiously I could expect
a few typical but minor side-effects,
but easily adjusted to, notably when
spring sets in and my ears grow like spires
and to everyone’s amazement I start
hopping about, my libido supercharged
after years of living celibate! – And as
he sees me out with an aside and wink
he says: You'd do well to forewarn the wife.

Premium Member Scent of Blue

Scent of blue is
blueberries rolling across
a syrupy pancake pile
in shades of sugary baubles
dancing in a plate.

Sharp bleu cheese spread delicately
upon a garden flavored cracker
and washed down with a soft
white Zinfandel, on a chilly Autumn night.

Blue-hued, purple eggplant parmesan
packed with Anthocyanins and antioxidants;
add a side of purple cabbage,
fuel for the vital organs.

A nice blue-violet potato,
the sort my father grew in his garden,
loaded with fresh chives and cheese;
blue is the scent of palate-elation.
