Take Your Freedom

Is freedom given? Is freedom taken?
Should San Andres sit, sit like the beggar?
Beg for freedom, beg to get better,
Or defy the oppressor, and our soul deliver.

Take your freedom, take it now!
For only beggars have no choice,
But we not beggars, we not dumb,
Take your freedom, take it now.

Take your freedom, it will be rough,
Speak it , walk it, sing it loud,
At freedom table, sit and chow,
Take your freedom, make it known.

Take your freedom, take it now!
With prison jail, chain and bars,
Just but few steps, from freedom hall,
Take your freedom, take it all.

Take your freedom, take it all!
Some may say, we will not thrive,
The sea the land blessed, God will provide,
Take your freedom, take it boy!

Take your freedom, take your land!
No more the oppressor, chain our hands,
Nicaragua or Colombia, none we want,
Take your freedom, take it man.

If take not freedom, but candy bars,
Come with offers, low wages brought,
And lies repeated, believe them all,
You’re still slave minded, get freedom y’all.

Take your freedom, and life preserve,
Endure the hardship, with death sentence roam,
Like great Mandela, in South Africa endured,
Take your freedom, free those who’ll come.

Take your freedom, from oppressors hand,
Nicaragua Colombia, distress our land,
Are both slave drivers, from Spain they learned,
Take your freedom, it’s God’s command.

Premium Member Your Little One- For a Baby Shower

Your little one is on her way
To change your world from night to day
To show you how to laugh and play
Your little one is on her way

Your little one will bring delight
She’ll keep you up all through the night
She'll cry then coo till morning light
Your little one will bring delight

Your little one will bring you joy
You thought at first she’d be a boy
She’ll make her Dad her little toy
Your little one will bring you joy

Your little one will bring you love
She’s sent to you from up above
She'll bring you peace, this Heaven’s Dove
Your little one will bring you love

Your little one is God’s own child
On both of you, heaven has smiled
So teach her to be meek and mild
Your little one is God’s own child

Eileen Manassian

I wrote this poem this morning and read it at a baby shower for Naty Acuna, a good friend of mine from Argentina. Andres, her husband, is the University chaplain and men's dean. Naty is the women's dean. We are blessed to have them at Middle East University. They have come as missionaries. Yes, they will have a baby girl. They will name her Emma. :)

Premium Member City of My Youth

In Andres City where my feet grew up
Ancestral house draped nights mildly beaming,
I retrace childhood with gazes, non-stop
Where pillow fights turned into hushed dreaming.

Strange, most oak trees now ripped by skylines
And the fountains... oh gone for young tugs-of war;
Where siblings rushed on for afternoon pastimes
Till Mom called for dinner through doors, afar.

Sketching the old plaza of teenage fun
My shoes roams, this scene now a memory;
Trimmed with fiestas-- dances I rerun,
Embracing the girl and adult in me.

I look and absorb, for the moon will set
Never exactly as it hangs low tonight...
And though my heart sinks, it will not forget
Each moment which lives within--ever bright!

Man lopes up mast-pole
Man lopes up mast-pole
Man lopes up mast-pole

And finds no maiden fair
Who mimes his Asturian air

Man bikes up mountain
Man bikes up mountain
Man bikes up mountain

And espies masts far from there
Biscay Basques back with wares rare

Man runs up belfry
Man runs up belfry
Man runs up belfry

To count sinners in every square
Come to keep their bosoms bare

Premium Member Tragedy At Sea

Natalia Andrea Larranaga Fajardo

Here lies one who died pitifully
She would have sought anonymity,
But publicity stole away her privacy
She threw herself off a ship at sea.
Trying to salvage her favorite flip-flops
And got sucked into the vessel’s props.

Overpowering

Oh and after all this time I've known you
it never did cross my mind that you could be
the one for me, was it Jupiter or was it Venus
that has opened the door to love now after
all this time whoa and it's OVERPOWERING
so intense and OVERPOWERING...
Oh and in the days to come I know desire
is gonna burn, burn hotter than the summer sun
fire to fire, lover to lover and that's a force
to reckon with kinda like that of Niagara Falls
the San Andres and Mount Saint Helens
all put together oh so intense and oh so
very OVERPOWERING...
Oh and just like lightning and thunder
it is the perfect storm of the heart yes
for the very presence of you is so
electrifying and when we kiss whoa
the sparks fly, well I swear I have never
felt so alive and whoa It's intense and
so damn OVERPOWERING...
Oh and in the days to come I know desire
is gonna burn, burn hotter than the summer
fire to fire, lover to lover and that's a force
to reckon with kinda like that of Niagara Falls
the San Andres and Mount Saint Helens
all put together oh so intense and oh so
very OVERPOWERING...
just like lightning and thunder...
it is the perfect storm of the heart...
oh so intense and oh so, so
OVERPOWERING!

It sure was fun to write these
Each and every day
Nine hundred posts here not for you
That's quite a few I'd say

"Then who", you'd ask, "was meant to be
The subject of all these?
Andres, were they really for
Some lady overseas?"

And I would say to you, "My dear,
For her they were indeed!
Now tell me, do you like it living
There on Lake Annecy?"

As long as ink is in my pen
I'll write bouquets galore
And post them for you while you sleep
"Bonjour, mon amour"

Alias to an Alias

I wish that you could read these
Like other people do
But you don't know these poems exist
You haven't any clue
See Andres has a penname
Who writes quite differently
Unlike the poems Andres writes
He writes cathartically

He keeps these poems from your eyes
So you won't have to know
How much sometimes he's hurting
But cannot tell you so
His longing gets expressed in rhymes
In ways you can't know of
What happened though was not a crime
He simply fell in love

The sweetest voice I ever heard
Belongs to you, pretty Bluebird
Someday will you sing for me?
My name sung to a melody
That you make up, one all your own
That's just for me and me alone
Vanilla rose would be its scent
The Kiss its art equivalent
If you do, through happy tears
I'll love you for a thousand years
And yours I'll be until the day
My final breath takes me away
