Best Accomplished Poems
Made a batch of cornbread Saturday morning.
Mixed the cornbread with clams and nuts to make stuffing.
Surrounded and filled the turkey with onions and stuffing;
Having done my part there, my wife did the cooking.
I chopped up the turkey gizzard and liver,
And fried them with chopped onions in oil and butter.
I added flour and chicken broth to make some gravy,
And put in some buttermilk to make it thick and savory.
Sunday morning I learned four hymns on keyboards for the church service.
Later played those hymns on the organ for the Sunday service.
After church, retreated to my quiet music space,
Fired up my laptop and plugged in my two-input interface.
I re-recorded my rhythm guitar track once again,
And sang "Lady Luck Stomped Out (When True Love Walked In)".
I must have sung it a dozen times to get the best rendition,
Because I've got only a few days left to enter a songwriters' competition.

My accomplish are very small throughout the daytime
Senior and retired, I have to remember to make sure I don’t forget to take my pills
Memory is short and cannot focus
Seven fifteen in the morning comes around very quickly,
especially when I go to bed so late, then I toss and turn because my body aches.
My Yorkie makes sure I’m up, he jumps up on the bed and lies by my side until I’m up; he patiently waits to be fed.
Get up; wash my face to wake up, then into the rooms to fix the beds
Into the kitchen and fix my Yorkies food,
take my vitamins for the energy I need,
I put on my shoes on rain or shine to walk my Yorkie up and down the road,
come back home and take my medicine
After all is done
Behind the computer and see what is up with Poetry Soup and Facebook, my way in staying touch with all my friends and the world.
At nine I’m back in the kitchen fixing breakfast, so my husband can take his medicine with food
Clean up the kitchen after we’re done
I’m off for a ten o’clock appointment with my neurologist, to brainstorm what’s going on in my brain. The outcome is, data is not being processed and stored in its files. My computer is running down and it’s caused by old age
Back home and start all over again
Behind the computer and see what is up with Poetry Soup and Facebook
At one o’clock I’m back in the kitchen fixing lunch, then
clean up the kitchen once more after we’re done
Call my eight- three year old mother to make sure she’s getting along ok
Trim the hedge and clean up the mess so it won’t block my view when I look out the window
Into the shower because I’m all dirty, wet, and sticks
Behind the computer and see what is up with Poetry Soup and Facebook
At four I'm back in the kitchen to fix supper then clean up the kitchen once more
By midnight, I finally make it to bed
After composing a list of my daily chores I realize I didn’t have a life
When I’m asked, “What did you do today? The story I tell is,
“Same old, same old.”

Woke up this morning,
To a bright, cheerful day,
And this is what I accomplished today:
Sat down with my Bible,
took time to pray.
Asked for God's guidance,
and blessings for the day.
Ate pancakes and bacon,
(a rare breakfast treat),
then showered and dressed,
made the house neat.
Picked up my cell phone,
called daughter-in-law Ann,
for news of the grandkids,
and of my son, Dan.
Got on the computer,
checked my e-mail.
Paid a few bills,
then without fail,
opened up Facebook,
to read all the posts.
(Well, maybe not all,
just the ones I liked most.)
While at my computer,
I visited the "Soup",
read a few poems,
made a comment or two.
I wrote a poem,
about being a bird.
Entered a contest,
with my confidence stirred.
Called my mother,
had a wonderful chat.
Noting the time,
I then fed the cat.
Hubby came home,
and I fixed a nice meal,
of baked chicken and broccoli,
not a big deal.
When the dishes were done,
I watched some T.V.,
then called it a night,
said my prayers,
went to sleep.

The bright sun chasing night awakes me with delight
Arising from my sleepy state is a terrible plight
Dragging forth to brush my tangled pressed down gray hair
Eyes barely open, stumble forth needing java juice and air
Turned on the computer to check emails and such
Drinking decaf coffee and answering emails but no rush
Breakfast soon was eaten devotion time swiftly spent
A few chores to straighten the house and even make a small dent
Bath time my daily spa, let the warmth penetrate
Dressed, ready to go ~let me face the day and not be late
A few errands need to be handled while in town
Lunch with my husband gives no reason to cause a frown
Grocery shopping to stock up on cleaning supplies and food
A task not really enjoyed but I let some joy exude
Afterwards I needed some rest and quiet time
Watching a movie that was not the best which was a crime
Facing the inevitable soon came to our life
Putting Cody on the Greyhound cut me like a sharp knife
Bedtime very late exhausted from the busy day
Tomorrow will be another list hopes of time to play

What I Accomplished
Today I made my way to school
I sat in back and played it cool.
I think of all I might have missed
and then I put them in a list.
Timmy told on Tommy for telling big fat lies
just below the window sill I found three dead flies.
Someone tripped poor Mary but no one would confess
they could see it skinned her knee and tore her favorite dress.
Billy's in big trouble! He got caught being bad!
The teacher and the principle just called his mom and dad.
Larry brought a rubber snake inside of his sack lunch
he showed it to Linda Lou and it scared her a bunch.
Jeffry told a joke today that made the teacher smile
I got one I might tell, but not til after while.
Betty stayed home from school, someone said she's sick
Stuart brought a sucker and gave everyone a lick.
Running as fast as I can I outran my older brother!
Trying just to beat him home and show my list to my mother.
Tomorrow is a brand new day and I'll make a brand new list.
Called if I hadn't come to school, the things I might have missed.

What I had planned for the day is no longer an option for me.
20 minutes on a full body vibration machine
30 minutes in a sauna. Same for the oxygen bar.
A free lunch with my friend, but I cannot get to my car.
It has been pouring down rain for a few days. Everything is starting to flood.
Today I will be unable to meet my friend with a microscope who's fascinated by blood.
Turned on the television. Someone discussing Greek and Roman Parthenons.
Oh goody! What joy! It's an Ancient Aliens marathon.
Flipped open my journal looking for something to do.
Guess I'll enter a poetry contest or two.

I said I’d wake at dawn
And mow the shaggy lawn,
I said I’d clear the shed
And weed the flower bed,
I said I’d press her clothes
And wash her pantyhose,
I said I’d clean the rooms
And clear the musty fumes,
I said I’d cook the lunch -
But now we reach the crunch:
We’ve ceased to co exist -
I only wrote this list…

I set a small goal today
One that could be accomplished
However when I set out on my journey
The goal became monstrous
I thought isn't this the likelihood
The Universe keeping me in check
Making sure my convictions are something I respect
I set a small goal this morning
With a smile upon my face
Even as the day went on
My the smile was fixed in place
Even as my quest was tested
My joy wavered not
The smile would creep back on my face
Almost frozen in its spot
This smile produced aloofness from sneer
Sharp curves twisting from ear to ear
Facial lines that could not be faked
Not even I could predict this much elation
This morning when I arose to wake
I set a small goal today
The goal was accomplished

Today I accomplished after a sustained effort
I wanted to set my mind free of all its dirt
I got rid of all, that's redundant
The baggage of experience that's abundant
Anger, hate, envy and jealousy
Myths, confusion, illusion and fallacy
Laxity, mess, incoherence and insanity
Chaos, clutter, dishevel and obscurity
Dogmas, tenets, maxims and rules
Traditions and conventions that the present ridicules
Desire, ambition, hunger and greed
I removed all that I didn't need
Only to realise now, there ain't left anything
My anxiety to set it free meant there's nothing.

English Sonnet
A speck of dust had life breathed into it
A willing volunteer a soul of love
Conceived of lust, love, trust and light spirit
Trip impossible without God above
Arrival endured treacherous journey
Brilliant light at the end of the tunnel
Caressing arms, warm milk, silk skin and free
Adapting to life after the funnel
Boundless beauty was gladly encountered
Hardships too whittled the befuddled soul
Spit your heart out and purposely devoured
Changes you didn't seek a small black hole
When the mission was accomplished and ceased
Sweet Surrender your last breath was released

Mission Accomplished – for contest
For if we are only human
we have separated ourselves
from our divinity
re-created ourselves
in our own disfigured
images and likeness’
gone forth preaching
to all nations the truth
of our godless inhumanity

Today I Accomplished
(My first list poem- I hope)
By Franklin Price
5/16/2015
Today I accomplished this list of things
At least I hope so Looking back
As I lay my head on pillow
Close my eyes and hit the sack
Got out of bed this morning
Glad my body could still work
Walked into the kitchen
Got the coffee on to perk
Turned on the old computer
Wrote a rhyming poem or two
Retired and don't go to work
Writing's something that I do
Heard the wife awaken
Made us each a coffee cup
Hugged and kissed her a good morning
Glad that she had gotten up
Checked my friends on Facebook
Posted written poems on line
Entered this poem in the contest
Hope you'll think it's mighty fine
Finally got my old bod dressed
Went to work more on a deck
To make a place to barbeque
Sunscreened my face my arms my neck
Quit construction twelve o'clock
Took a shower changed my clothes
Went over to a friend of ours
To play some dominoes
Came home around dark thirty
Just my lovely wife and me
To spend some time together
With some popcorn and TV
Watched the news to end the day
Was not busy nor was slack
This is all that I accomplished
Before I hit the sack

It all happened 2000 years ago
Jesus Christ son of God incarnate
lived on earth the perfect life
showed the way to heaven's gate
God's will was to bruise His son
using various means with evil men
a roman cross was the ultimate means
planned from eternity God knew when
There Jesus paid the perfect sacrifice
for the sins of those he chose to select
the full weight of it was on Him
salvation's price was His to collect
But at Calvary's cross, Jesus Christ spoke
His very last words before He did die
bowing His head having completed His task
sinner's salvation accomplished the last cry
Jesus did then give up His spirit
it is finished rings out to all
the world is now forever changed
Satan's plan eternally forever to fall
Jesus accomplished salvation completely
the son of God is the saviour of grace
sin is vanquished to death's fall
so heaven awaits its chosen race
("When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.' John 19: 30 (ESV)")
