Premium MemberBessie the Cow's New Year Message

Do the crickets in the trees
     welcome a breeze
Can a frog on a lily pad
     ever be sad

Would a fish choose to swim
if it were molasses he was in
   Does a monkey grin
when he thinks of vice & sin

   Should a zebra without stripes
     just give up on life
And what about a female baboon
Does she bleed if pecked by a loon

Thought you might like to 'ruminate' on all of these
While I bring up dinner - straw and day-old cheese...

Premium MemberOld Bessie

Old rusty Bessie just drove her last mile
Went with a sputter instead of a smile
    No more brakes slipping
    No more gears ripping
Think I'll relax with a horse for a while

Premium MemberBucket Shop Bessie

Halloween Bessie had a bucket shop.
Where people traded stocks without a stop
Some were fraudulent, made up and wild.
I’m here to say it was crazy, child.

Halloween Bessie had a black cat with a twitch.
This familiar went by the name of Mitch.
Sold stocks and bonds and sometimes made a switch
Swindling investors without a hitch

Halloween Bessie had a fast game in town
She tore around in a broom and a nightgown
Many lost money, but she was the queen.
Of the investment world on Halloween.

Premium MemberSidecar Bessie and George

Sidecar Bessie was always ready for a ride.
Her new husband George steering at her side.
They will travel west in a day or so.
She rides like a trooper, her hair all a glow.

She paints it red, thinking it makes her young.
The smell of the country brings a bit of cow dung.
They travel up hills and down against the wind.
Bessie and George happily leaning into each bend.

We’ll go through Illinois and I-Oh-Way
George tells her at six a.m. on sweet Thursday.
She puts her money inside her bra
By Friday they are heading to Omaha.

She has bugs in her teeth and her skin is brown.
She is the finest new bride this side of Chicago Town.
Her husband is showing off their new status as they ride.
Giving her romantic glances, for she is his brand new bride.

They stop in several motels along the way
Finally ending up down Dallas Way.
They visit her relatives, and give them quite a show
Before heading back to the windy city of old Chicago.

Premium MemberOle Bessie

Oblivious she lay
on her bed in soft hay
Ole Bessie snores the whole night away

While I twist and turn
as my heart and pulse churn
at explosions that rock my stairway

Perchance I awake
before next the ground shake
Let me please be a cow ~ I do pray

Premium MemberPancake Batter Bessie

Pancake Batter Bessie
She makes flapjacks so fine
Avoiding corn syrup
With Tabasco, liver and onions sublime.

We try to stop her
But she is obtrusive and a ghost
Where we make our own batter
We hide it with our toast.

For Bessie will take that batter
And add extra stuff galore.
Peanut butter and sausage
Corn, pickles, oranges and more.

Bessie empties our pantries in the middle of the night
And grills up inventive pancakes that fill every counter in sight.
Our mother has asked her to stay out of her kitchen.
Pancake Batter Bessy’s creative juices can’t for they are always itch’n.

Premium MemberBessie the Cow

Bessie the cow
a prizewinning specimen,
has sadly relinquished
her gold rosette

Ruby red ribbons
of congealing blood
coat the floor
of the abattoir

The silly cow
ignored the bull,
farmer Fred’s freezer
will be full!

Messy Bessie

Bessie, out hiking, had to pee,
She glanced about, choosing a tree;
To her distress
She made a mess:
Windward, she’d squatted, not alee.

Premium MemberMy Car Bessie

I love my car called Bessie
Although she really is quite messy
All the doors are pretty rusty
Interior it is so dusty
Once she was a lovely blue
But now she's just a faded hue
The tyres are right down on their tread
And when I stop I feel such dread
One day a guy he came on by
My Bessie he did want to buy
I told him no, I love my Bessie
Even if she is quite messy

Bessie

My comrade -
was
a candy apple red steed.

I would admire
the way the sun
would catch and sparkle
across her bars,
marvel over
the grand Ferris wheel
in proportion
to her two small children.

Some days
we would don
the sound
of my sea foam flip flops,
galloping,
I would let
the rough cement
guide us
as
I rode
on,
a mad train west.
