Premium MemberCharlene and Barb

I saw that Charlene was spitting the dummy
And I knew it due to her tall poppy syndrome
She has always been jealous of Barb
Barb is wearing a chic, posh swimsuit coverup
It looks like it walked down a designer’s runway

Charlene said to me “what a budgie smuggler”, huh?
I promptly left; I rarely spend time faffing around.
Besides, Charlene is as negative as Barb is positive.
Not someone with whom I want to spend time.

Premium MemberSunny Afternoon

There we sat, a sunny afternoon
The barbie lit, not quite enough flame
Her father fans it, wife tries to explain
Happy families. Two language game
I’ve nothing in common, forgotten their name.

I let myself go, release my sarcastic mood
We’re all inane smiles personified polite
He’s waving at the barbie dust on the food
My wife hangs on to her rage a soaring kite
Mother and son know not the time to be rude

Daughter-in-law’s parents, peasants afar
My stepson, squirming, cursing his luck
New allies for her, from now on life will suck
Mum kisses his head, he’s her pride and joy
His life’s anonymous, she cuddles her boy.

Great Grandmother Barb
By Franklin Price
02/16/2022

Family meant everything
To you, when you were here.
There came another yesterday
You're a Great Grandmother, dear

All is fine with mom and baby
They are doing as they should
I pray you're seeing them from heaven
Both of them are doing good

Wish you could be here with me
That was never meant to be
Through my own eyes you will see them
You'll always be a part of me.

Premium MemberBarb Wire Fence

Barb wire fence

---I stand in front of a barb wire fence ---
As they taunt as always, from the other side
People who have returned with the dark clouds
Thinking I will stupidly try to cross the fence
You still haven’t learned, I suppose you never will
Pathetic words spewed about, echo in fierce wind
Blowing, just as you need the wind to do for you
Your life is spent preying on innocent victims
The sickness is deeper than anything imaginable
Yet, given a million chances for help you refuse
Instead, you choose the endless dark road to travel
--- Lined with a barb wire fence ---

Premium MemberThe Lost Rose and the Barb

The day i met her
My mind was blown
For in my heart
In pumping growing

She made me laugh
And sometimes we cried
When it all went wrong
We always tried

It's been many years
More downs than ups
She's no longer my kitten
I'm no longer her pup

The girl i met
All those years ago
Has disappeared
No more after glow

We are no longer
The beautiful garb
To me she is now

Barb Wire

Twisted and tormented
You keep things in, you keep things out
                                       A guardian, a jailer

Premium MemberRouge Barb / Spring Sours

From within the frost-frozen, bare-boarded, shed
within its loosely hung zee-braced door agape
the spring light peeked.
Warming the woodsheds King’s pine planks
toasting the ten penny nails
popping the planks to a toe-stubbing height.
Door slamming dashes through the obstacle course of cord,
tinder, rake and hoe;
to the semi attached outhouse.
Draws half down,
butt bitten by March’s wind;
the two holer waits, lye bucket at the base.
Curled, yellow-brown, newspaper pages from 1890,
the shade of Uncle George’s pipe stained teeth, wiggle in the wind;
as do I when with a holler as
breeze to bottom freeze dries.
A half flashed mad dash to the kitchen door
is halted; awestruck at the gapping door to the kitchen garden.
Raspberry-red, tit tipped rhubarb buds and stalks,
warmed by the sheltered spring sun;
set my mouth to drool.
A waylaid girl child in transit.

Burlap & Barb Wire

That's why you have boot straps, she's heard the old vaqueros say
But she'd throw away all her tomorrows for one single yesterday
She wishes deep down for a better day somewhere down the road
But for now the grief, loneliness & tears make a heavy load
She's much too young to carry the burden she's been thrown
But there is no other choice, she will push through on her own
She'll ride to hell & back again trying to outrun the pain
But no matter how far she rides, he'll not come home again
Her very own Cowboy Charming, a fairytale come true
Until a cruel twist of fate painted her world faded denim blue
How long will she replay that single moment in time?
A day & forever, she'll still find no reason or rhyme
She has tasted love's passion & felt its cruel sting
Felt both the elation & misery that only true love can bring
She once carried her heart like a balloon, bright & airy
Now she locks it away deep inside & is wary
She's sworn never again to give in to desire
Now, its covered with burlap
& wrapped in barb wire
