Anodynes Poems | Examples

Premium Member Ignorance

Ignorance is bliss they say,
Gonna find me some of that some day~
Night is falling on the Earth
Out there where there is no mirth;
Reality is such a drag,
Anodynes in hidden rags
(Never ever touching pain);
Comatose inside my brain
Even lexigrams refuse to play!

Listening To Poetry

Poetry is warm and friendly,
nice to hear, healing,
with room for everyone
great and small.
Even writers of anonymous verse,
those great anodynes for the faithful,
are remembered from time to time
in rhyme if not in name.
A name is only a temporary bit of cloth
we put on to cover our naked self,
but a word from god translated
by the poet’s hand, is a word from god.
God likes poets and doesn’t abandon them
in times of strife or need, the word
is always there to be heard
by the active listener.

The Ship and the Wind

He comes and goes
Like a breeze:

In her life…
And out again

Filling sails of joy
Then calm and agony

Like the breeze
He is an ephemeral happening
Coming and going
Never knowing anything

A wind so strong yet gentle too
Stretching her sails
With feelings beyond compare
A sensation that never fails
Every time he is near

Like a boat in a calm
Unable to move
She flounders about yearning:
Will the wind come today?
Her heart is burning

Anticipation at every whisper
Of a change in the weather
Hope and expectancy all the day
When will they meet again?

Like a ship and the wind
All risk is blinded
By desire so strong
The need is so great
What can go wrong?

Although the wind at times
Causes feelings of fright
A course filled with danger
And suspicion
Will this love survive another night?

The stronger the ship
The will to survive
They are anodynes
And this love affair
Will never die

Moonrise

Now bring your rain to fall on me
To wash away my deep regrets
I know how lost it all can be
To one who's only seen sunsets
But rise, pure heart, sweet sanguine gem
But rise, and I cannot condemn
Nor you, nor I, nor all the world
Can know the perfect taint within a pearl

Agitation grows perfection
All things stem from darkest dust
Diamonds, pearl, love's complexion
Know its name is what it was
So dark, so dank, so damp and cold,
In loneliness 'gins love. Not gold
But silver, lunar, somber shines
In where are found love's anodynes

So shine the moon upon my soul
So taint my eyes in crimson's stead
So bring your rain to make me whole
Oh leave the past for dead

Let us live the moment's endless loss of space and time
Let us live, let us regret, forgive this heart of mine

Not sun, but moon, not gold, but grey
Nor heart nor mind is here to stay
No tears could ever fade away
Let live the dark, let fall the day

Let stormclouds fall, content, contrite
Completion, oh what death is right
When never torn away from sight?
The sunset
   is
       so beautiful
               Tonight.
