Chicken Soup For a Recovering Mind

After a brief illness, some dry toast
and the turgid sloshing of rehashed thoughts.

Slowly the former becomes the new now.
I bathe in new invigorating light.

This is how we recreate our world;
with carefully paced electro-chemical reactions,
brittle notions are chewed soft like moccasins
until they fit new feet and legs.

This is how we create a life
no sudden catharsis or evolution,
just one thought hammered to another

until a scaffold is erected,
something that resembles
the bones of a recently absented God.

Family Gathering

Family Gathering

He dreaded family gathering and now
he was in the middle of one.

Tried to lasso the wind (Samuel Johnson)
of old slights remembered.

They turned to him called him a coward
always siding with his mother or being absent.

He just sat as not hearing the coward bit riled
as usual he absented going into his den.

Has Been Do Again

Has Been-Do Again

Poorly painted-Thoroughly tainted

Currently consented-Mind absented

Body Becoming-Up summing

Totally Theatrical-Some Sabbatical

Currently incredulous-Pretty Propitious

Enduring end-Should suspend

Could Do-Can You

On display-total dismay

People prevaricated-Ultimately uneducated

Poem preparing-Started sharing

Up dried-So satisfied.

Write more-What for

Rhyming quadruplet-Should let

Four words-New nerds.

Ho ho-Oh no.

My new style of poetry writing.

Discrepancies

Discovered: Two Ibis at the edge of the lake
in compatible company of four Canadian Geese
who've absented the gaggle of twenty or more,
daily in command of our grassy slope where they
come to feed, settle on the benevolent breast
of the lawn, or else, the parking lot's warm asphalt,
arrogantly in possession against arriving cars
whose occupants carefully maneuver around them,
respecting those as residential as they, birds
bedded down, wedded in marriage to salt water
and fresh. There's a light filled sky of deep
purity, its mystery unveiled, clarity after grayed
days of misty rain, fog that sandbags the soul
(that which we're told is immortal) --
Then, at next watch, they've vanished. Their
presence as temporal as our lives, leaving only
a memory of how they stood in juxtaposition
against the silence and immobility of windless
water. The generosity of sea birds deigning kin-
ship to migrants who stood their ground.

Epitaph of a Crab

Here lies the remnant of a crab
Who absented himself from a grouchy campaign
Against mass crabbing.

Irrepresible Nature

Another day ends with insipid sun
One more uncertain season
Another month ebbs slowly invariably gone
One more uninteresting month another reason

Each bulb impressively pushing old soil up
So absented from every winter irritation
The orchestrated plants unite drinking along nature’s everlasting cup,
Invigorated refreshed, outdoor rains unbidden now and so equip spring’s irrigations

Now offering beautiful uniformity, colours ablaze ferociously
Ever changing illusions painting over the untamed soil
All struggling evermore to imitate natures ordered ways
Unbeatable colours abound, Mother Earth delights in toil

Overlong tall upright grasses allow seeds easy dispersal
Insects dancing on flowers undulating formations.
Accustomed we ever become inclined to ogle things universal
Nature abounds with ever more interesting luscious opulent flirtations

Untold species all working ever closer in harmonious obligation
So unlocking faces all smiling even now in sunbathed oblations still unseen
Yet authenticating spring, escaping winter in fulfilling overall nature’s unification.

Premium MemberHer Return

Her return
Written: by Tom Wright

She was like "Ghost Smoke"
emerging from ashes past;

Today's inner likeness,
now sequestered,
from days remembered;

Absented days,
I tallied as grains of sand,
and earlier thoughts of her,
though too few to catalog,
I occasionally recall;

In my eyes,
her new inner beauty makes liars,
of those who proclaim that
"Beauty is only skin deep"

For God,
has shined His light into her heart,
and she is changed.

Absentia

deeply, as i sit, i look far beyond
there exists a whole time before now
knowing, or not what's come upon
i can't seem to recall it somehow

your name, your place, your very face
in my existence mean so much
i think back, try to valiantly retrace
who you are, where we met, and such

yet i see you now in this very moment
and think i recollect an idea put forth
to "live in the now" persuasively potent
that's the best i can manage henceforth

when i grow old, should i be demented
please remember as i try, but cannot
my expressions to you blank, absented
my love for you that i mostly, forgot

Premium MemberGod Knew Who, What, When, Where, and How

You drew our names from your deep past
I've never questioned why you did so.
From God, a burden, for you was cast
And absented years caused it to grow.

God allowed me to view your life's change
How you'd matured from sand to pearl.
In faith, I'd believed, so it wasn't strange
That when I saw you, you'd remained that girl.

He wanted us to meet your life changing love
The man I'd prayed for, lo all those years.
He came when you were ready from God above
You shared this with me through a veil of tears.

As our dear friend you've been ultra kind
And we love the heart within your chest.
Our relationship needed no cords to bind
God's love secures our friendship best.

We love you S
