Yesterday
Yesterday has come and gone like a vapid shadow
In my mind so many things I might have explored,
As I strolled through the lush, verdant meadow
Hoping my troubled soul might become restored.
Renewed confidence in the goodness of mankind
With sweet visions of the innate brotherhood of all,
Yesterday is gone, however; in this new day I find
A plethora of opportunities, once again, to recall.
Despite yesterday’s disappointments and fear
I am the captain of my soul* and I make my future,
As adventurous horizons before me do appear
These old heart scars do not need another suture.
I cannot alter patterns of grim yesterday’s woes,
But grasp onto the hope this promising day shows.
