Winter
Winter's long shadow covers the last image
from Autumn's dead leaves
Frost now clings to each windowpane
like a translucent curtain
as fires are lit to stay warm
Each breath that's taken rolls away when exhaled
drifting in the Winter's chill
where we wrap ourselves in thick clothing from head to toe
to journey through the reflecting beauty of splayed sunlight
where crystals shine and snow-covered fields seem peaceful
beneath hanging icicles on barren limbs
Winter is the season of short days and long nights
filled with cold, crisp air that lays upon frozen water
It is a time of beauty and death
A time to ponder
as one season has ended
and we await the beginning of another
