Why
Why take the time to lend a helping hand,
or aid the less fortunate in the land?
Why exhaust yourself for the down and out,
or care for those whose futures are in doubt?
Have you ever felt like there was no hope?
Why assist the poor to better their lot
or tirelessly toil for those who have not?
Why bother yourself for an abject few,
even dirty your hands for sinners too?
Have you ever felt empty, lacking faith?
Why soften your heart for those on the street,
with nowhere to live and nothing to eat?
Why give money to impoverished souls
with their empty stomachs and worn-out clothes?
Have you ever felt shamed, and drained of pride?
Why endeavor to help the sick and weak,
wasting your efforts on futures so bleak?
Why put yourself out for those who are lost,
calming their fears, and accepting the cost?
Have you ever felt alone and unloved?
