I actually went to your winning poem. Imagery of the birds in their cages, and the ending which insured us that there is a very special moment with a loved one. Here's mine:) https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/the_pink_lady_my_muse__1458808

If I get this horrific disease, I would wish myself dead

Yes it is terrible how many elderly are being treated. Personally I could not have great patience with the problem of dementia but to be cruel to the person is horrific. The nursing homes need to do psyche evaluations of their nurses and attendants

You got it. My stepdad suffered 8 years with it and later it happened to his daughter, my stepsister. Both died in rest homes. I can't think of a more horrible way to slowly die with your mental faculties almost totally impaired.

oh my...that can and does happen when trying to converse with someone. Well said for the contest. Have a pleasant evening, hugs, Sara

Yep. I know the feeling. And if you don't talk, you are ignoring and uncaring. Geez!

Oh dear, someone not paying attention. I see that often when you try and talk to someone and they're too busy glued to their phone. Tom

Oh my, dear Andrea, this is such an evocative and heartfelt first line which I can deeply resonate.. Sometimes, we find ourselves in such a situation where we are always unheard no matter how many times we express our emotions.. Its just of no worth for those who act like a lifeless wall towards our feelings.. Sigh. An impactful first line indeed, best of luck to you for the contest :)

I hope you find the poem. It's actually about a woman with dementia, and it would be so cool to be able to show this somehow for the contest.
