Weeping Nude - Edvard Munch
Listen to poem:
Inspired by Weeping Nude by Edvard Munch 1913. Viewing the image will make sense of the poem. It's a tame painting, but not sure if within PS rules to add to the post i.e it's a covered yet nude woman and called nude. Could therefore be considered nudity (it's not!)
This is all of me that you reject
The heart and soul, not just the physical
As my hair tangles with my fingers that tangle with my tears, I am alone
Even my shadow shrinks to nothing as
I cry out my very heart
Not for wanting you
But for not wanting myself
There's no salvation from that
You are to be despised
Though the issue is I despise myself so utterly
That is the shame of this and why I weep
To have entrusted myself to you
Power given over that obliterated me
I rolled the dice to find myself here,
in this room, abandoned by you
But more accurately abandoned by myself
And so I cry, perhaps I'll cry all the hurt and pain out
There will be a new day and
I'll brush my hair and wash my face
But for now, I'll experience this day completely in the hope that it will never be repeated
In future I'll paint the pictures
And they'll be happy ones
