Way back then when I was ten Oh gosh how easy life was then No work to do and no bills to pay It’s a shame aged ten we cannot stay! We’d climb up trees and skin our knees Run around the fields in the cooling breeze I could play safely outdoors without a single care Have picnics in the park with lots of food to share I was friendly with lots of the local girls and boys Our garden shed was our ‘HQ’ we made lots of noise! We would ride our bikes and play for hours Go on nature walks and pick daisy flowers I would paddle in the brook, as I didn’t swim I was always very careful that I didn’t fall in! I wish I could turn back time to those carefree days Life was so much simpler then in oh so many ways Contest: Way Back Then When I Was ten Sponsor: Kelly Deschler 01~30~16

Didn't we have great childhoods as witnessed in your precious poem? What will today's children write about, "I stared at the whole TV while Mom brought fast food to me. When my food was gone and done, I played video games for fun" We staid out all day, somehow making it home for meals, sounds the same for you. I love your nostalgic write, oh - I am transported ... I'd love to be able to travel back in time and escape the complexities of adulthood. My school days were not happy ones but my childhood in general was great:-) hugs Jan xx

Those were beautiful days, Jan. There is no chance that today's children will ever experience a childhood like that; life has become too complicated. Hugs // paul

Everything you have written is 100% true...The ironic part is 'back then' our parents were saying the 'same thing' that you just said! So we shall call it, 'Parental Plagiarism' LOL

oh so true Judy ... but what of the kids of this generation - health and safety would stop them doing so many fun things we did (and we survived - I have a scar on my thigh from a barbed wire fence to prove it lol) and computer games get in the way of fresh air!:-( hugs jan xx

I lived on a small holding - we had an acre of ground which my dad and his friend tended and grew lots of fruit and veg, we kept pigs, goats and chickens - life was simpler then and we appreciated all we had ... now the most valuable thing to me in my life is my health and my family:-) hugs jan xx
