Listen to poem:
I'm walking the dog and when I stop I get bathed in sunshine it's the warmth of before like that feeling in the London Underground when gusts of dusty air rush over you yet this is: stillness I'm not sure if the volume of birdsong is dictated by what my ear chooses and a distant train blows a horn to signal a dreamlike state if I listen carefully grass crunches with infinite variation I hear birds that sang to me as a child - I'll know their names... if I can just think a little more there are no other people on the field so the warmth of the sun is shared but there are no shadows affecting my allocation I'm going to look for a butterfly as I have nowhere to be so I walk towards the farm viewing the nettles wondering how far for a dock leaf I'll count my steps until I find one as they crunch on gravel 1 - 30 past ivy 31 - 60 past overgrown cow parsley more than a minute - no dock and no butterflies but I don't need any ahh, there it is, next to the buttercups ha, and some more too! big enough to make bandages out of and a bumblebee on a flower! oh, and another human with a dog a stray pine cone dandelion clocks and then just the crunch of gravel through a shady copse to the next field? no, I'll go home, I'm hungry I can wait until later for butterflies

Dear D, I was expecting a whisper of a voice on audio, instead natures moment, thank you, O the foot steps of boots? Taking a walk with you was poetry and an unforgettable tour ~

Hah its ok maybe next time, a butterfly! Do you see many there? I love butterflies! And i love how youv written a poem that defines mindfulness and stillness, in such a descriptive manner; awakening also readers senses to hear the birdsongs; to see what youve described and more! Beautiful walk with your dog it sounds like! The picture looks stunning!! Pleasure reading this! Sending you light dear Dd

Thanks Ink! No butterflies since the walk but I had seen a few recently :) it's overcast today, so no such warming of my skin to connect me to nature. It was lovely to capture the moment and might tempt me to recreate it personally more often :) thank you for your kind comment x

A wonderfully creative train of thought, something also about a stroll with a dog, that as they stop to sniff, it forces us to "smell the roses" as it were - you've captured those pauses perfectly because our pauses are more mental and capture what, in other more "rushed" strolls, blurred by...funny that you also count steps - there are places on my favorite walks, especially up a hill, that I know how many steps to the top and what boulder or plant is half way, must be a poet thing ? Love it

What a delight! Welcome to my page, take a seat and allow me to make you a cup of tea after that walk :) I always used to wonder if finding the dock leaf was a really a distraction rather than a cure for nettle stings - the giant leaves used to be such a bonus find :) I had no rush about me at all this morning and everything just presented itself so beautifully, the sun's warmth was poetry alone. The grass and it's variation under foot I've not done justice to - it was somehow exquisite! Thanks for the kind feedback - gratefully received :)

- I just got home from walking the dogs, you describe my daily walks with beautiful experiences in nature, D.D. (the only thing missing is a warm sunshine ... cold biting wind :) - A lovely poem :) - hugs

Thank you for taking me along on your walk, Dilly. It's such a 'for real' display of the sounds you heard... birdsongs and the gravel crunching. Your thoughts are like open mic time, and I enjoy reading them.

More open mind time I think! It was such a lovely walk and the sun was so soothing that I stayed out quite a while just enjoying the warmth and nature. Glad you enjoyed it. I did ponder whether it's worth posting such things, but it's kind of a meditation in itself to write it and it's certainly doing no harm to share it. Thanks for your comment x
