Utopia

Written: March 15 2024 For Constance La France Contest Quote: "Out of generous dreams come beneficial realities. Utopia is the principle of all progress, and the essay into a better future". By— Anatole France
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your drumbeats our pulse—it is our life's ritual, Nirvana, Utopia, high-rises aim to be habitual. Doomsday, Xanadu, and the global uprising, Time has flown by, and it will soon be rising. Listen as I close my eyes and describe, In an oasis where everything has an idyllic vibe. Here is a green sky and a view of a blue lawn, Everything here—feels authentic at dawn. There is no sickness, no pain, and no tears, There were no instances of the word fear. All plates are spotless—all anxious minds are free, A stunning horizon as vast as sight can foresee. A flock of birds thrives high in the sky, Demonstrating how to flap wings and fly. A vibrant landscape wraps—a majestic pine tree, To show how delightful nature might be. A chuckle echoes through the gust of wind. There are no scars to heal or spirits to bind. This is my Utopia—if it had simply been true. However, it won't, since truth is quite overdue.
SP, I was reading and wondering about the definition of a perfect world and what life would be like. If there was nothing to worry about, I suppose it might be very static and boring. You have expressed a remarkable insight poetically into the nature of progress and time and also provided a warning as to what may come to those not paying attention to actual facts (rather than selected anomalies, isolated moments, or misrepresentations). The ending is truly reflective of utopia in poetry!
Oh I so agree with your every word my friend. 'This is my Utopia - if it had simply been true'. However, it won't, since truth is quite overdue.' My sentiments exactly. This poem is a fav. for me Lasaad as I often write about Planet Earth's demise - your first verse explains why - 'the global uprising, Time has flown, and it will soon be rising.' I admire the way you wrote this poem, no one seems to care, this write and the devastating message it brings, explains how humans are not giving heed to the evidence they live with daily. Congratulations on your win my friend. Blessings, Jennifer.
Sotto, I enjoyed your poem. Thanks for sharing. My reflection on it: Your poem crafts a vivid contrast between an idealistic utopia (which all of us carry in our heads), where harmony and peace reign, and the harsh reality marked by imperfections and the unattainability of such a dream. It mourns the gap between our deepest desires for a perfect world and the stark naked truth of our existence, emphasizing the human yearning for an escape that remains forever out of reach. Cheers, Don
How I wish to get transported to such a utopian land. A deeply captivating and an alluring scenario! There is everything that makes the heart joyous. Images of beauty flow in an unbroken chain. But the closing lines expose the hollowness of such a radiant vision of the world. A beautiful poetic composition, dear friend.
A magnificent write Sotto, your vision of utopia is utterly desirable. If only all humans were pure of heart, no one would suffer as there’d be only light shining along life’s path… Beryl
Dear Sotto, The quote by Anatole France sets the stage beautifully for your vivid imagery and heartfelt reflection. I love how your words create a picture of an idyllic oasis, free from pain, fear, and sorrow. The imagery of a green sky, blue lawn, and spotless plates creates a sense of serenity and tranquility that is truly captivating. Yet, amidst this dreamlike vision, Sotto you also acknowledge the bittersweet truth that utopia remains elusive, as reality often falls short of our ideals. I believe the closing lines poignantly capture the longing for a better world while acknowledging the complexities of truth and reality. A wonderful poem. - Blessings, Daniel
I always like your poems. The message of truth vs. Ideal --but pretend, seems to note how many people live today. This is a good poem to my ears.
Hey Sotto, in your poem the speaker yearns for a perfect existence free from pain and fear, they acknowledge that such a utopia is merely a dream, as "truth is quite overdue." This acknowledgment of reality adds depth, inviting us to reflect on the imperfections of our world and the longing for a better future. Despite the acknowledgment of this, the poem retains a sense of hope and optimism, as evidenced by your ability to imagine and describe their ideal world with such clarity and beauty.
What a virtuoso you are, dear Sotto! Your poetic craftsmanship gave me pause with your poem's profundity and captivating rhymes. Your imagery gave rise to beautiful expressions of utopia. I particularly liked "All plates are spotless—all anxious minds are free, A stunning horizon as vast as sight can foresee." Your final verse was philosophical and left me wondering if utopia is possible where truth is 'overdue?' Much to ponder. Best wishes with the contest, your poetess friend in Texas. Sara
Ah dr sotto what a profound and meaningful write this is. So well crafted and expressed and your rhymes as always are so captivating and flows in such a catchy cadence, i love the way youv elaborated on utopia. And that last line hits home really. So powerful and deeply moving. So many lines stood out for me in this poem, especially how you’ve written “ A flock of birds thrives high in the sky, Demonstrating how to flap wings and fly“ they do give us hope and demonstrate we too can fly, freely. You always write so well and your poems always have that philosophical touch to them, this is definitely worth all the accolades, best wishes for the contest
