Together We Are Strong
What do I say to you, my daughter, dear,
now wed, mother of two, life upside down?
A nightmare of sad changes and unknowns,
since early-onset Parkinson's has come...
to take away your love of many years.
You're slowly losing him; he's not the same.
Your daughters, now eighteen and twenty-three,
miss too, the wonderful 'old dad' they love.
And you, dear son-in-law, my heart is crushed;
no longer can you work the job you held
for over twenty years, where you excelled.
Hard to accept this doom, fate brings to us.
What do I say to all of you? No words...
except to say, I'm here for you each day,
to wipe your tears, allay your broken hearts.
I'm here for you...together, we are strong.

Some of you may remember from my former poems, that our younger daughter's husband, was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson's disease, both motor and cognitive, three years ago, when he was 50 years old. Fortunately, they live close by, and we are here for them to help in whatever way we can...so heartbreaking and very sad.
