Titanic- The Note I Wrote

With a lump in my throat, I thought "Is this it" I never thought I would go down with the ship As I floated in the sea with my life jacket on I thought to myself "Soon- my life will be gone" Some last-minute thoughts... had rushed through my head! A note, I must write...before I am dead Drenched... Written in my mind, I blew it to the moon with the mist from my breath... Sealing it with a kiss! ~My family, my friends, my dear wife... I thank you all for being part of my life~ I love you, all... so much!! Six children I've raised, beautiful- indeed Helped my friends, when they were in need Made peace 'round the neighborhood Tried my best to always be good I've had my ups and downs for sure (As I laughed to myself) "I've never had a "down" as this extreme, before" Floating... Watching the beautiful dark sky Watching the countless amount of giant stars Listening to the romantic sounds of the calm open water Slowly, I closed my eyes... And that was the last thing I remember So many nights; still, I cry Why wasn't I... one of the unlucky to die?

Gosh, I didn't see that end coming. I guess some of the surviving ones did feel a sense of guilt; You, being the sweet soul that you are, would have for sure. You described the emotions well, Charlie. Good luck in the contest...Hugs

Ah i can imagine this feeling and that experience you’ve described in such a soul hitting manner. I felt the imagery and it felt like i saw through your words, this scene unfolding. As someone that travels by sea alot in maldives, i find this dreadful to even imagine. Cus we are surrounded by waters and sometimes we get really rough seas. Especially lately. I think tom woody will like this. Best wishes for the contest dear charles. Always a pleasure reading your work

Beautifully dramatic poetry, Charlie. A FAV for my list, my friend. I could feel the emotions as he realized the end was near. To think of loved ones and then accept his fate, only to then have to live with the why for the rest of his life. Thanks for sharing your poetic talents with us. Happy New Year! Have a great 2024! Bill

It must have been a terryfying experience Charlie, the only good thing to come out of that disaster was that all ships must now carry enough lifeboats for passengers and crew.. Tom

It's terrifying and life changing Tom, I'm sure. Yes, on a positive note one good thing has come from it. Let us pray that they will just be there for show and tell. Happy New Year! Charlie

the after effects of surviving a horrific event traumatizes many and some feel guilty in having survived. I felt this with your words. Best wishes with the contest, Sara

That's exactly how I would imagine how some of the survivors must have felt too. Like Anaya said- PTSD. Thank you, Sara for the GL wishes :) Happy New Year! Charlie

PTSD, it's undeniable here. Charlie many end their lives after such trauma. Floating... Watching the beautiful dark sky Watching the countless amount of giant stars Listening to the romantic sounds of the calm open water... Slowly, I closed my eyes And that was the last thing I remember, I love this part, Charlie.

Your pen is truly remarkable, effortlessly transcending the confines of the ship, the seas, and the skies. Charlie, your talent for building vivid pictures with words is excellent, and I found myself enthralled, awaiting the magic of each thriving verse. I wish you luck in the contest! I am happy for the attention I earned in the previous contest, and I wish you a prosperous new year 2024.
