I introduce you to a dusty stranger who sidled up to me, his pockets and glass seemingly as empty as his promises. Yet, amidst his claims of poverty, there's a glint in his eye and a strange request. Prepare to be discombobulated with whimsical charm, wit, mystery, and twisting imagery by the enigma. Through the lens of this peculiar exchange, the poem explores themes of identity, perspective, and the complexities of human connection. Come with me as the narrative takes off, and we are drawn deeper into the intricate dance of words, leaving us bamboozled, puzzled, and delighted by this stranger.

- Blessings,
Daniel Henry Rodgers

------------

A feller I met, with a twinkle in his eye Quite the enigma, you see, Said, "I ain't got no dough, not a single penny!" Said he, "ain't got no cash, not a single plug for a cup o' tea." "Couldn't buy you no drink, not even a dime's worth of time, Wouldn't dare ask you for no drink in my silly whine." "Never saw nothin' finer, not a sight to behold, Then, your fancy top hat, not plated with gold. In this fine conversation, though, I confess, I don't know nothin' much, not more or less." "Don't know nothin' much 'bout music, not a single note, But begged the whole bar not to leave me croak, In this sea of confusion, though, I confess, I ain't got no answers, not more or less." Confused, I just stared, mouth agape and wide, "So, are you broke or not?" I finally couldn't hide. He winked, then chuckled, a sly, knowing grin, "Don't you fret none, my friend, I ain't never givin' in!" "Never learned nothin' clever, that ain't no surprise, But I sure ain't unhappy, not with tears in my eyes!" A poet, a pauper, a prince; his stories spun gold, Ain't nothin' like his tales, never gettin' old. We made a bond that don't nobody understand, A friendship ain't never been seen in no other land.

Daniel, this could be an allegory for this whole crazy website of strange poets...at least I consider myself a bit odd. We can all appreciate each other no matter how different we are. While I have not had the chance to meet anyone from PS, I suspect we would all have a fabulous time. There are some great stories here and a lot of wonderful people here and in this world at large if we would take the trouble to just listen.

Dear Duke, Indeed, the diverse array of voices and perspectives here mirrors the beautiful days of humanity itself. It is so true that we need to appreciate each other's uniqueness which is a powerful reminder of the value of empathy and understanding. Let's continue to cherish the stories and connections we find here, and may we always be open to listening and learning from one another. - Blessings, Duke, - Daniel

I remember a panhandler I met once in a wheelchair in Boston. As soon as his cup was full of change he pulled the brace off his leg and abandoned the wheelchair, very amusing poem, Kelli

Hi Daniel, this wondrous story reminds me of the true story of a humble and quiet janitor at a U.S. high school or college, I don't remember which state or town. He was overlooked by some students. But a small group of students struck up a conversation with him, and found out with their friendly conversation with him that he was a Medal Of Honor recipient veteran. Amazing story you've penned here. Blessings to you, good poetry friend.~

This feller may or may not be able to buy a round of drinks, but he's not poor. He's richly blessed with knowing how to tell a tale (as do you). I'm late to your party but wanted to stop by to leave you my thoughts and well wishes.

I love how it's mainly dialogue until the last verse, where the story teller makes his observations of the tale. Some wonderful turns-of-phrase and rhymes. In general, it's such a fun poem. (It's cool how, after beginning the third line with "Said," you begin rather than end the fourth line with "Said he.")

Have you been drinking down my local Daniel lol! these words I’ve heard so many times before, some guys will tell you exactly what they think you want to hear, and speak in dubious riddles, it’s easier for them to backtrack if not impressed with what they say, but the end goal is to get a pint from you, having said all that it can and sometimes does lead to friendly banter, until you stop buying then they move to another target, a fun one for sure, you’ve definitely been down my local, but the captcha says NEY! cheers David

Dear Daniel, The core of initial reactions and the gradual formation of strong friendships are captured in this great Writing. A piece's stunning and long-lasting effect is largely due to its witty and fluid prose. It stresses the worth of delving deeper than first impressions and narratives and the intricate nature of relationships. Despite the stories' emotional appeal A lesson is to look past appearances and not make snap judgments evident. Your profundity and narrative skills are remarkable.

Dear daniel, its so good to see a different side to your poems too, youv written a very witty one that flows so well. And leaves also a message to the readers as well as shows that sometimes the beginnings of friendships can be strange but long lasting. I know that theres so much beneath the facade and stories some tell, but somehow i tend to fall for sob stories. Ahah. You never know tho, and we must always see beyond. And never judge someone also from skin and name, thats what iv gathered from this poem. I love the depth and also the storytelling nature of this! You are such a gifted poet. A fave it is for me!
