Yellow and black zebra long-winged Butterfly, brought joy when I spied Three-quarter century life and first I've seen An internal joy that made my heart sing One little packet of flower seed Two plants survived my feeble attempts From those plants I harvested with greed Many more giant zinnia seeds to plant Those zinnias have drawn butterflies And moths all this hot, long summer Some days when feeling down, mourning doves cries Bring sadness and frowns then there's a butterfly I look out through the kitchen window there Fluttering and drinking nectar in large numbers Turquoise hummingbird moth draws me away to plop Upon the outside chair where dreamy thoughts come in large numbers Preempt___acquire or appropriate in advance Written: November 15, 2020

James, They are so delicate to survive the wind, rain, and probably attacks by animals and birds. I have enjoyed seeing them this summer. I hope God be willing to have many more come to my garden because I plan on having many more plants to draw them. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

what a lovely image to accompany your own delightful imagery, we have seen more butterflies in the gardens this year ... guess its because we got out for walks so much during the period we were in lockdown:-) hugs Jan xx

Jan, If we stay inside it is hard to see all of nature. Just think what people used to see when they were out working the fields, drawing water, planting and harvesting a garden. We have become city dwellers and insiders. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

Hi Sara, I love your long winged yellow and black zebra butterflies, they are so welcome on those lonely blue days, and your last line is so evocative of those lazy summer afternoons~

Michelle, I wonder if the butterfly that visited me will survive this soon to be winter? They say they make a chemical similar to antifreeze to protect them during winter. Thanks for dropping by. Sara
