The Year of the Butterflies
Yellow and black zebra long-winged Butterfly, brought joy when I spied Three-quarter century life and first I've seen An internal joy that made my heart sing One little packet of flower seed Two plants survived my feeble attempts From those plants I harvested with greed Many more giant zinnia seeds to plant Those zinnias have drawn butterflies And moths all this hot, long summer Some days when feeling down, mourning doves cries Bring sadness and frowns then there's a butterfly I look out through the kitchen window there Fluttering and drinking nectar in large numbers Turquoise hummingbird moth draws me away to plop Upon the outside chair where dreamy thoughts come in large numbers Preempt___acquire or appropriate in advance Written: November 15, 2020
