* inspired by Silent One's contest within each human soul a struggle lies- the battle waged between one's mind and heart relationships we're quick to analyze when strong emotions rip our world apart benevolence and kindness we extend to those whose lot in life seems bleak and grey (yet) malevolent and hurtful words we pen 'gainst enemies we feel must be repaid there was a time before the fall of man when all the world was nothing less than good in Eden's gardens wisdom ruled the land- the path to unity was understood until mankind returns from whence it came these conflicts will continue just the same

Your poem is thoughtful and explores the duality of human nature beautifully. It captures the inner struggle between kindness and malice, love and vengeance, wisdom and folly. The contrast between Eden’s harmony and humanity’s current state adds a compelling depth to the piece, reinforcing the idea that until we reclaim that lost purity, internal and external conflicts will persist.

I like your sonnets. It's funny that we believe in the same thing. We both despise what going on in life! And I applaud you for that. A great sonnet was written with intuition

Man is on the horns of a dilemma. There is a constant battle going on in him between his mind and heart. He lives in a world of corruption, injustice and wickedness. The pristine beauty of the earth is lost.... all of it, his own make. Unless he goes back to the original grace that existed before the fall of man, we cannot hope to have a peaceful existence. Your wonderful sonnet lays before us, all these stark truths. Enjoyed reading, dear Tom.

A very relevant work about the fall of mankind. We are in the middle of the worst kind of repaying. Each side feels that they are in the right but both sides are wrong. It is a saga that has been going on and on since the beginning. Jesus will come again, and all will be healed but we don't know when. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Sara K

I believe our evil natures aren't only due to The Fall, I believe it is also because our pure souls are encaged in the minds and bodies of primates. Just my take. Blaming women for The Fall, you and the Taliban have that in common.

Hi Tom, mankind is so frustrated with life and living in this present era that exists, there is nowhere to hide and no-one to trust. How must we believe one politician when the next rejects and has a completely diverse opinion. Man has to think how will he buy the next loaf of bread for his family or will he have to pawn his wife's jewellery, and we all no matter color creed or nation pray to be saved who are the chosen persons? Poignant poetry, blessings Jennifer.

Hello Tom, I fell a little behind this week on my reading so I stopped by to see your newest and I am glad I did. Your sonnet brought out the fall of man and his ongoing battles with great clarity. The Bible says this is Satans World and we will always struggle until Jesus returns. We have a world of distorted logic posed as truth and emotions that easily override all things holy. Well inked for the contest! - Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

I liked your poem - as art - but there's an argument to be made for Eden's gardens being ruled by human ignorance - until someone - and I'm not out to dox anyone - ate the mango and, of course, blamed to closest available woman for his transgression. =]

Tom, this is a remarkable poem, which I will make a favorite. There's a lot to think about our nature and our impacts on each other and our planet. Can ever have a peaceful and kind world? I'm thinking we need more poets and fewer war mongers, but how can we make that happen...I think you are on to something!

There are and have been plenty of (word) battles right here on PS Duke. Like I mention to Brandy below, we all struggle to be consistently generous and kind. Thx for support

There is always a conflict between our mind and brain. There is an angel and a devil coexisting in man. When the angel shows kindness and compassion towards those who suffer, the devil in us use hurtful words against those we hate. This rift has started from the time of the fall of Adam. Let us hope that one day in future, we will be able to regain our pristine goodness. A great entry for the contest. All the Best dear Tom.
