unknown like undress into a once was state tangle ~ to become ~ risk unbecoming... lightning bolt struck skull constricted round to oval then forgotten - of course all this air only breathe in a fraction so busy trying to discern through smoke and haze tell me are we part of the picture . . . . the page beneath ... molecules of the paper we may be nothing until a thought transpires - inception ~ to be realised or crushed - smoothed out again do we remain are we never was paintings made inexplicably before the death of the artist placed in this world viewers or viewed to no end whatsoever within a non existence or do we pass our little sparks around keep each other alight as we burn out to an almost stop when a shared ember re-ignites this chain of succession of disappearing ash forgive me if I'm wrong so insistent on searing the surface of what should remain undisturbed folly, on my behalf, I'm sure there we are or not every layer reveals another layer we pick at until we're inevitably in a hole

I’d like just to pick up on your final line first Dilly, because it’s exactly what mankind has done to the universe, we’ve picked away at it til we ended up with black holes, actually your whole poem reflects the universe, shared embers as dying stars, can reignite when they siphon off enough material from a companion, incredible you seen all this from an interpretation of a painting, on the cusp yet again, one of your best and a Fave from me, cheers David

I'm buying it David :D (after googling to understand of course!). I like that idea, these ones you connect with are sub conscious streams of consciousness, maybe there's answers everywhere :)

You’re definitely very smart Dilly, but this is something way different, let’s just call it ( a microcosmic intuition) !

I do enjoy how you correlate my words to space and the universe - it's an absolute joy. Do I need a disclaimer to state anything I stumble upon is merely (repeatedly) a coincidence as I'm not clever enough to understand space :) I love the imagery of the stars reigniting - true twinkling. I think I'll just grin at your comment for a while and imagine I'm actually that smart :) (thank you!)

Hi DD! As always your ekphrasis is a thought provoking metaphor bathed in the double entendre of the title - an exploration of esoteric themes of life, how we perceive it and meaning. I love the stanza that begins "forgive me..." That stanza moved to me to think about the "unexplored life." So glad to see you writing ekphrasis again. You do these poems so beautifully and I do love them. Sending you blessings of late autumn joy! Stay blessed! Just an after thought - it seems to me that to question is a supreme act of faith by seeking a deeper understanding with and of the Eternal - a dance of discovery! Anyway, just a musing!

You're not wrong Sam - faith intertwines in many ways. The explored life is indeed a fear in the sense of living through all one would dream of but with eyes closed to it. There's never a shortage of ekphrasis from me, I might go as far to say it's my hobby :) thank you for your kind words

Dear DD, I love the art work and your exploration of existence and perception. As I read through your artistry it sparked embers and ash and beautifully captured the fleeting nature of being. DD What a wonderful deep reflection on our place or not in the universe. It certainly sparks curiosity and contemplation. Autumn Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Forever curious Daniel! I think some of the interpretations from Catholic teachings lead naturally to what if scenarios - regardless of the parallel instruction to not question but to just have faith. I seem to hold most theories in tandem with each other on a consciously curious level but my sub conscious likes to play with the idea of meaning and reality.

Dear DD, sometimes these thoughts run through my head too and youv expressed and written in a very philosophical manner, maybr we say philosophical when one questions and sees things from different angles as youv done here. And what really made me feel the most here was “ all this air only breathe in a fraction so busy trying to discern through smoke and haze“ if one were to define life, i would say, these words could sum it up for all so very well! Powerful poem, you do this form so well! Queen of ekphrasis you are hah. Pleasure reading, sending you light always

I'm delighted to see you back on Soup Ink! Thank you so much for your wonderful comment - all this pondering is mostly on a sub conscious level - like you say it's very much questioning the angles of so many different perspectives. Ahh I keep looking at your comment and I'm not sure how to bathe in all that glory haha - I think I'll have to ration it and it'll keep me going for a week :)

I'll take a pass on following that path. Random thoughts of sadness perceived and it's too beautiful a day to grieve beneath a blue moon in what appears to be an empty world. Second random thought... Zorro didn't like it either but left his mark.

I found my little bit of reading into constructs intriguing - reality and meaning being fascinating to ponder. Whatever might be true, moments of connection are still mostly what holds firm. Thank you for your comment. Ha Zorro did like to ensure he left his mark :)
